  1. ship it to the uk..? mail it to a friend and get the work done etc you should have it back on the bike in under a month for reasonable money prices in the uk availlable from the net range between £80 -120 per leg fed ex quote circa £30 uk to NZ
  2. the engine may have little to do with it the answer lying how it is transmited.. my gas gas pampera was docile though fast on the original sprokets take ahandful of teeth off the front and it reared up at the slightest whiff of throttle
  3. the forward motion part of non stop seems non existant on both the examples and the guidance to observers. both examples are 5's if you believe non stop means a lack of forward motion. if you stop the forward motion of the front wheel to lift / re position the real whell that is a stop.. however the fim dont seem to read it that way..
  4. i fitted a ty80 tank to my francis barnett rather than the usual ty175 tank. it is much smaller but will do a 19 mile road trial .. just.
  5. as an update as the process above was alien to everyone i spoke to (3 owners clubs and the fhvc) i ve spent this a.m. chasing confirmation / clarification and i ve just a a phone call from dvla swansea. they have confirmed that they can no longer issue V5/c to a vehicle without having written confirmation from HMRC that they have no interest in the vehicle. hmrc require the completion of the paper form NOVA1 (Notice Of Vehicle Arrival) the purpose of which is to determine the amount of import taxes (duty VAT etc) payable on an imported vehicle even if the thing never left these shores in the first place!!!! if you fill in the form and provide as much supporting evidence as possible that the vehicle was uk manufactured and sold then you should get confirmation from HMRC within 10 working days which you can then take to the dvla as part of your application.. no letter from hmrc no v5.
  6. you need to complete a nova1 from hmrc send it back to them they consider it and when it comes back you have to take thier reply to the dvla. they also said to include a brief history of the vehicle to explain how and why the bike came to you and why you have not registered it previously..
  7. i went to register a bike today all the correct documentation etc to hand having done it loads of times.. however.. you cant read about it anywhere on any websites or even on a poster but the process for registering a vehicle has changed significantly.. virtually all local dvla offices are closing in december and all applications will ahve to be done by mail.. in the meantime significant changes have alrady come into effect on 15/04/13. you need to do this for all vehicles built in the uk or not. you must have a dating certificate from the original manufacturer.. if not you must have a letter from the manufacturer stating that they do not have records or did not build that motorcycle/ vehicle ( e.g. triumph didnt build the triumphs that were built in the 60's ajs have no relation to the 50's ajs but you need written confirmation from them) a dating certificate from the club MUST be accompanied with such a letter. you also need to contact HMRC NOVA and complete thier paperwork so that they can confirm to dvla that no outstanding import duties apply to the vehicle. this applies even to british built vehicles that you have documentation to prove when and where it was mad and origianally sold and its original reg no.. without hmrc issuing a document stating no outstanding taxes apply your application will not be accepted. even with all that dvla will no longer issue reg no.s on the day and are commited to viewing at the keepers address all pre 63 vehicles before issuing a v5. i spent most of the morning dealing with dvla and hmrc i spoke to the top people at each office who tried thier damndest to resolve my issues.. frankly niether had a firm grasp of whys and where fores but the long story short is all the above now applies..
  8. you need to insure then apply online for a tax disc and your off

    240 Mods

fantic 200 top yoke.. pull in the head angle a little lower the footpegs.. lighten the clutch..dont use the disc.. it limits its use and future value.. and lots of practice..
  10. machine the shoes to an exact fit on a lathe, then you can be certain of the largest possible contact area..
  11. a 240 that is all there and runs is worth that kind of money .only you know whether that is how much you want to spend.. waiting might get you one for a hundred quid less equally it may mean you having to pay a couple of hundred more..
  12. cant say enough to comend the pickering stuff.. even though mine is taking a loooong time to get built it is excellent stuff and top quality gear
  13. water is always at a higher pressure than the oil so the mix technically should always be in the gearbox. i suspect congealed coolant additive
  14. these gentlemen are not fussy.. scrambler/ trials there all the same to them.. with the price of scrap on the rise and stuff with electric motors fetching strong money ( i got £5 last week for an old core drill at emr) all the power tools/drills etc are a quick win. light iron is 150 a tonne at EMR so a frame might be 20 kilos say £ 3 quid.. barely enough for the delivery charge never mind the pizza. add in the alloy at about 1800 a tonne and they have 20 quid max. scrapping the van for its 200 quid value is much harder as you must have the v5 if it has an engine.. but replating it is much easier..
  15. well his phone is a good place to start.. his workshop is some distance from the phone so dont hang up after 15sec..
  16. i was looking at mine today and although the clutch seems light enough the arm did seem to be asking to be lengthend..it looks like the chain link might do the trick? my real issue is the front brake cable is the one that goes via the mudguard stay and it has gone walkabout.. the cable can be sorted easy the stop might take some work though
  17. any 250 trials bike will be okay.. some promote the 200's as ideal but you rarely see any. so 250 is the tool of the masses. the 125 will be more revvy by comparison i suspect
  18. theres only pennies in it so get a long one and cut out what you dont need..
  19. i'd look on boat building and airplane websites/ forums for a definative product.. i was told by the guys that import one product that NO tank sealer is 100% guaranteed..
  20. just come back from the venue after a bit of flag planting this morning. It has been steadily drizzling for the last couple of days whilst we have been setting out and very very light snow is falling but as its drizzling at the same time nothing is remotely looking like settling. it is cold but again with little or no breeze its not remotely close to freezing,on the moor( local temp in my van on the way home was 6.5c) please though bring appropriate clothing especially if observing.. it is winter and it is a moor in Yarkshire, .
  21. only 4 grand?.. you could build a bike from used bits off ebay for about 1500 quid.. 4spd motor, exhaust alloy rims/tyres new. controls, tankmight be douable for a grand. for your grand plus you ll be wanting a new ignition, sprockets, chain, , brake shoes. that 1500 quid soon gets eaten up. 4/5k MIGHT get you a running v5'd donor bike a full drayton kit ignition wheels and with used wheels /forks. all motorcycle trials is expensive.. pre 65 is potentially the most expensive and ironically sometimes the cheapest.
  22. timely notice .. this weekends Yorkshire classic's captains trial ( entries closed as full, other trials do exist but frankly if its not in yarkshire..) will probably be my last on the FB for some time. I have been building a drayton bantam since june.. slowly... and that will be the new weapon of choice once complete. already i m happy to say jim pickerings build quality is excellent and his components all fit and work if it rides as well as its fallen together i ll be more than happy. so for its last hurrah the Fb has new rubber and sprockets and the usual service/ consumables so i look forward to a great day out on the moors above Halifax.
  23. ive had both the 240 and 200, still have a 200 and it d be my choice.
  24. no need to wizz off the ''not for road use'' as it also says ''in america and canada'' For the Yorkies i'd happily recommend Grizzlys 30 west parade halifax hx1 2te 01442 322698 proper oily hand mechanics understand what trials/ bikes is all about.
