  1. msm offer by far the most explcit insurance that specifically covers road use during motorsport. i havent yet found another that comes close as part of the basic package.. and its cheap too. the proof would be when a payout might be assumed due. but until then..
  2. which route is which is the easy part picking the right one is the trikiest bit.. a club i m a member of has hard and easy route for 10 years and this year they ve decided that the easy route is too hard so this year we ll have hard route easy route and easier route
  3. so having read the excellent response above ( how many other sports would a member of the governing body post on a public forum a frank and open explanation..) so it seems we have 4 simple choices.. some less simple and some more expensive.. defend the staus quo and work toward a resolution with the msa as the acu are doing ignore it and hope it goes away.. as the amca appears to ( for at least the next six months..) run events as the msa currently requires and pay up the time and money or run events that have no fixed route.. i can see an obvious choice.. run events with no route marking.. just an ordanance survey map with references for the location of the 1st section given out at signing on. you start anytime after you ve signed on.. at that first section give a reference for the location of the next section. and so on the route inbetween is completely free.. you can state a finish location and a time that the finish closes... as for navigating off road absolutely no issue with that being route marked.. so all that differs is.. you sign on as you start and you only know where the next section is and you have to carry an ordanance survey map with you.. or a photo copy of a small part of it.... cant see any problems with that. or you could argue that the trials competition is held entirely on private land and the public highway forms absolutely no part of that competition other than a means of access. the public road plays no more part in a trial than the road used by a team on its way to a football match.
  4. playing devils advocate... so.. you want to use the road to get 100 off road motorcycles from one side of the village to the other.... why cant you notify the homes adjacent to the roads you ll use its only good manners to inform mrs smith at no34. that those motorbikes passing her front door are part of a legal competition recognised by and authorised by the governing body and the local authourties..
  5. not a problem.. they are designed to rev after all.. just understand what the root cause was and resolve
  6. are we agreed then that your local plod hasnt the first clue what he is looking at if he asks you to have a licensing hours extension and in the next breath asks if you intend to use illegal veghicles illegally on the road. where clubs do fall short is failing to ensure insurance coverage of competitors,, not by checking but by getting riders to complete a specific form/ declaration. MANY/MOST riders could not honestly sign such a declaration..
  7. your aprilia forks arent modiefied to make them look pre65.. .. the sliders would be turned down so that they are wafer thin then a pair of norton sliders are bored to accept the sliders and the two are married together.. this is not a cheap or quick operation and if you have to ask the price then its too much. just look how much the norton sliders are fetching.. if any become available
  8. temporary event notice... your being led up the garden path.. TEN's are for extensions of licensing hours/ location.. as for the notifications when i asked of the long distance car trials community this is the reply i receieved Not sure where you get the "within 100m of a route from", but my copy of the MSA's PR guidelines states that for trials run between 07:00 & 22:00 the A, B and "yellow" roads require a "public notice" which to my translation means a sheet on the parish notice board. Additionally a written notification to any household within 500m of any point at which competitors may stop (ie a section start)
  9. yes.. direct feed via a t would be a solution. ive used the hebo tanks as an auxilary for a few years and havent had any issues......
  10. i read the article only the other night i ll dig it out over the weekend
  11. the Parts backup from Lampkins/ Beta is second to none.. they know thier stuff its on the shelf and in the post same day normally. as a poor to abismal rider i would nt ride anything else. if i thought i was any good i'd have a Beta and if was any good I'd probably have a Beta my 2003 rev3 i ve had from virtually new.. its had new plastics new bearings on everything. i see no need to change it does more than i can ever dream of and starts every time.. i ve had it 10 years in feb..
  12. i cant for one minute imagine that the organisers of the rac rally or the lands end trial or le jog or wales rally gb.. write to or visit every address within 100m of the route from its starting point to its finishing point and everywhere inbetween.. for the wales rally gb.. do they mail to every home in conwy and llandudno.. they cant be more than 200m wide (100m either side of the road..) literally tens of thousands of people would have to be communicated with.. how then would rally gb prove that they had completed the task.. posting the letter wouldnt be good enough.. if i have a home in conwy but actually live in the wirral how would you inform me..how could you find me..how would you know which language/s i could or could not read.. clearly there is a simple alternative.. using the examples above but leaving out the insanity of choosing when you go to sections.. the public highway route between sections is free.. however should you wish to follow the shortest possible route between A and Z and all points between it is this.. the start is free and the finish is free however we reccomend the carpark behind the red lion for van/trailor parking.. you can start when you want and stop competing when you want section 1 opens at 9.30 and closes at 11.30 section 2 opens at 9.35 and closes at 11.35 you can finish when you like where you like any section not attempted whilst it is open will be penalised by the loss of marks according to the acu regulations..
  13. disgraceful... and i dont know who to blame.. the two biggest trials of my year are the ilkley and the west riding.. they are the only twinshock /pre65 road trials in the area and now there both on the same day.. what an almighty (insert appropriate word) up. what will happen.. the 20 pre65 riders who ride the ilkley and the northern bike series will almost certainly ride the west riding. i will as i have to support my club but I m absolutely gutted i m going to miss my road trial on my honda.. as an aside this means tha ti wont have to have an acu licence this year, the honda will be declared sorn.. will not be taxed or mot'd and will have no money spent on it for a year.. is that the best way to keep the sport alive..is this the way the acu meets its objective of increasing participation..
  14. ride sensibly within your limits and you ll never need buy levers again..
  15. back in the 80's this was a stipulation for road rallies at night.. we used to make a token effort. close to junctions, control points, starts and finishes etc only issue we ever had was a guy who used to get his shotgun out above pateley bridge!! the acu really need to have a word with the msa for clarity etc. i cant see any of the ldt car trials i do following this nor stumping up 2.75 a car when entries fees are only 30 quid.. the passing of a 120 bike trial on an A road through a village centre will go un noticed but the work involved would be enourmous and of no value. i think of ilkleys sammy miller round that three times passes through pateley bridge in the day. i suspect over a 1000 homes might qualify for a letter in the post...
  16. not a chance .. no one will take under 21 some want you to be 23 some even 27.. sorry
  17. 7 years on and the beta is still in the garage. not used often though as p65/twinshock trials are more my current skill level. i just used a can of smooth hammerite paint that i had lying around the garage. the repair has held good ever since. i note though that a significant number of post from that topic have been deleted / are no longer visible. there was at least one which contained significant detail on magnisium and another on how water movement rather than corrosion was the root cause of the damage best wishes with your repairs..
  18. john cane as mentioned above is your man heled me out no end with unobtanium..
  19. ty 175 was not meant to be ridden that way. for that kind of riding a late 80's twin shock or any monoshock would be suitable. for a beginner you'd be better off with a water cooled mono
  20. cleaning the crud from the previous trial and having a pee at the start lose all the weight i need and mean i can have an extra pie before the off
  21. clearly running too rich, just moving the needle down is too much so you ll need to go down on the main.. the needle should be in a mid position though so it might be as well to open up the main jet and lower the needle a fair bit. box of jets/ needles req..
  22. agree... b and c are right. you ll probaby have to remove the powdweer coating on the frame to get them in.. gentle persuasion with a wooden mallet is more than acceptable. as for greaseing i was taught by an aircraft mechanic to pack only two thirds of the circumfrence with clean grease and assemble and spin... the taper bearing is really supposed to be used to be used for spinning shafts, eg car wheel bearings so spin it a fair bit before tightening up when its movement will probably be restricted to 120 degrees good luck

this question has been asked several times over the last 5 years in this forum and none have recieved replies. If you have a source for parts that you are going to order from then i'd go direct to them. in the uk david silver has all the stuff that is available and thee staff are really knowledgable.. they ve dug out loads of stuff recently for my 1975 honda. i'd alos give this site a look they have plenty of pattern stuff and if they list it they hold it http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/Honda_Off_Road/TLM_220/RJ_88 happy hunting
  24. i once pulled a reg number from a clymer manual wrote asking for the v5 and got it matching frame engine no.s etc.. if you know the previous reg no. v62 is the tool inc the 25 quid.. if you dont know the number then its re or first registration time.. explained at length elsewhere on these pages.. or you could by a 'motorcycle' with a v5 and transfer thenumbered parts like engine frame to your fathers.... obey the law though.. its important..
