no religous stuff this year ( i dont think..) so its defo on my to do list.. now which bike.. AND having just checked there are no Yarkshire Classic or Red Rose trials that weekend.. fantastic will try to get a small gang together..
-
consumer is king, and from sales its clear what the consumer prefers. consumer choice though is critical so 4st development is a positive for all.
-
Unlike bbc news' recent online sports coverage these pages are now more user friendly and needed no explanation. bet it wasnt easy or quick to do either
-
scrap the lot get the electrix set up simple to fit. no probs in use. job done.
-
my point is you dont need to spend on magnesium or titanium to save weight a bit of metal removal is all thats req. having said that when i was racing mountain bikes i always said a pee before the start was the best engineering you could do..
-
trawled all the home insurance policies in january looking for some one willing to insure unregistered or incomplete bikes.. nothing doing. no one would cover parts even ( even though the policies all include garage contents value of 2500 ish i was catagorically told that did not cover motorvehicle parts) push bikes no problems 5 grand no problem ( marks and spencer ) no need even to chain them up just lock them in the garage..

dont think there has been a better looking monoshock beta these bikes look great , some work gone into magnisium this and titanium that to get the weight down. I think though that old Sammy Miller could shave a fair bit more off by simply doing what he did to his Ariel/ Bultacos. a lot of parts seem ripe for machining. the brake levers on modern bikes are numb and clumsy compared to the stuff Hope turn out for thier brakes, the brake discs seem fairly soild and thick for the work they do and some thinner lazer cut stuff would shed weight. The gear lever is still a solid bit of bent metal with a std. bit on the end.. no drilling or machining at all. my biggest potential weight loss is look at all the cap end bolts that are used swap them out for button caps that have been waisted for none structual componenets and how much might you shave off. all those great looking orange silicone pipes held on with spring steel strips when car manufacturers use twisted wire.. great looking bikes no doubt great riding as well but how much more weight could be lost if you could take it to the max. without overstressing anything.

yeh that spacer has had l;oose bearings floating around in it replace the spindle / nut/ spacer from betauk and the 2x bearings and snail cam as i detailed in my post above.
-
you DO NOT need a dating letter from fantic. as above its fairly clear that the dvla publish a list of persons suitable to issue a dating letter. i ve never had a problem and i ve used bike clubs, collectors groups auctioneers and authors to write mine. I ve even seen letters faked though could nt condone such practices.
-
i think its fairly clear what the rules in many clubs are.
-
i was stood next to a rider at a YC trial who was sporting a grimeca hub. he was asked that next time would he enter as a special. no hassle no you must do this or that , a polite request. given and taken in good humour.
-
many clubs last weekend could nt get a complmnet of observers never mind someone to weigh and measure 100 bikes..
-
sounds like as above no spacer in the wheel hub. i'm all for on line sales sites etc but if you want the stuff betauk ALWAYS get my vote.
off the shlf all you need are a hub spacer and a new axle, get the bearing and snail cam from a generic online supplier ( trialsbits always next day in my experince) make the call now and i bet you ll be riding weds tea time..
-
beta uk site has the frame no.s of every beta and thier age.
-
i'm sure a chat with those nice men at Betauk might reveal something, cant believe they'd import a bike that cant be insured..
-
couple of points..
surgical gloves are great in cold or wet especially underneath your 'proper gloves' just remember to take them off if touching anything hot as they MELT and stick to you..
in the uk it is not the law that you must use lights simply because it is raining. trials lights are road legal. the sticky part is if you have any light on your bike you need all ( front back and brake) and they must all work.
-
i cant comment about other clubs but we do have a clear if contentious to some set of rules,
no one checks a bike before the off it all seems very simple. HOWEVER we do have two excellent knowledgable 'machine examiniers' who if they see or become aware of an issue will quietly observe the bike.
i have witnessed riders both informed that xyz should really be abc, asked to change xyz for abc, told to change xyz to abc or simply asked not to use the bike again whilst it sports xyz.
such is the respect for the examiners ive not witnessed xyz remain permantly in place once identified.
however i will note that even some very experienced competitors will and do, go to some extraordianry lengths to make xyz look like abc..
PS if anyone has any xyz.. how much do you want for it..

lesons have been taught and learnt the hard way year after year and yet they seem so quickly forgotten. trials attracted hundrds of entries when you turned up attempted to ride a bike up a hill.
trials became harder entries fell like a stone so organisers made em easy and entries soared ( the ssdt is a classic example)
when the national championship attracts 10 or fewer entries thats a concern when only one stays in single figures or that some of those riding never do better than 3 a section and when as happenend more than once last year a rider drops less than 5 only 5 times in the trial thats not good for trials or riders..
take a look at something like the alan jefferies traditional road trial big lap traditional sections 100's want to ride and more spectate and guess what after the final sections the best riders win and they are the best riders in the country. no need for 6 foot splats artifical sections perimeter tape.
the message is clear. give lads sections they can ride and feel they half a chance of better than a three and they ll be there in droves.

the cost of re furbing a wheel is not economic.. take out the hub have it skimmed and powder coated and off to cwc for a new hoop and spokes ( circa 200 per wheel?)
-
wow icant believe how cheap it is.. 18 quid.. stuff the post office when i whant something moving..
-
one been ridden regularly and well at red rose at the moment and one for sale on the yarkshire classic site ( dont know how they let that sneak on to the website)
-
Welcome to pre 65 trials! building a bike is NEVER the cheapest option no matter how cheap or how many bits you already have. if something ready to go is available always take that route.( there is a recession so no matter what people ask for bikes they will take a lot less...) Choose a bike that is popular and parts plentiful to reduce costs and improve bike time. Cubs, villiers engine bikes, bantams would cover that or as a second division Ariel Matchless B40 (C15 at a pinch) Pre 65 has builders, bodgers, fettlers, cheque books and riders which do you think best suits you understand that. Poachers are a great club decent trials decent bikes really decent folk to spend a sunday with.

not going to happen and heres why.. i m a nobody, my bikes legit i aint going to win the toss never mind an award so i certainly dont want to be paying extra for someones travelling expences at every trial i do.
it takes nothing for the organisers to have a suitable person noting bikes at the first section, and classing the bikes there and then if they are entered in the right class..no discussions with riders nothing.. no probs leave alone, if not re classify them in the appropriate class, the rider has 14 days from results to protest.. simple. or eeven simpler have anybody photograph the starters at the first section and if they are top three in class check the photos sat round the fire with all the information to hand and re classify if req before posting final results you only have to check 18 bikes photos.
-
new to me barely used front section and brand new wes box at back..
-
use super unleaded rather than normal unleaded as a simple fix that worked on my beta
