ok welcome to the fold, c15 is an under rated thing. your rear frame loop shouldnt be a problem bolted welded brazed or uhu'd on. like most others id advise running cub/bantam hubs that way you can buy consumables off the shelf all day long. there are though a couple of excellent folks who make up rear sprockets to order online i'd ditch your elderly amal and buy a new mk1 concentric a proper dealer will send you one jetted up ready to run put your footrests where they suit you best not what some computer rider reckons is best for you.. be comfortable be upright take it from there... enjoy.. cheque book and credit card out..

if its getting too hot its either too lean or you ve an airleak or the timing is too far advanced..

re chroming has to be cheaper than new manufacture of a whole leg..

many old men in sheds the length and breadth of the country do it.. like most things some better than others and some properly some not very well.. the use of new mazzochis will stop fairly quickly now that production has halted so all those old fantics will soon be missing thier legs as well as their top yokes only a brave and skilled fella would attempt to do his own and he d have to have access to norton sliders.. find em if you can and dont ask the price.. then put them in a lathe and take metal from the bore to fit in the legs from your fantic forks that you have machined down to a couple of mm or thinner.. then put the two together cant be hard.. so cant be that expensive can it..

the marks on the clutch cover inner are where the bolt heads have impacted.. this obviuosly happened whilst the engine was stopped otherwise youd have grooves not clear head impressions.. probabbly done by over tightening with no gasket or been dropped whilst stood.. you sound to have the plates in a n better order now. pamps are fairly tough but parts are scarce.. moto merlin used to run one and bought all my spares engines etc etc.

gear swapping.. in hindsight id say its a waste of time to split a box purely to swap the cogs but if its in bits you might as well do it.. i ve never used anything other than 1st on the bantam in a section, never been tempted to go for second.. 'after market' lower second gears.. again not something i d plump for. many have had issues sometimes even from reputable sources building a bantam box is not a 5 minute job splitting cases etc. so if i had a built up engine i d leave as is. if it were in bits i d swap the cogs. i wouldnt fit a lower second. again as for engine mods, my bike is standard b175.. cept for electrix world ignition and a pickering exhaust and silencer.. it runs very very well and is easy and forgiving to ride. certainly the best carbruerrted bike i ve ever owned

converting road bikes is ALWAYS in EVERY WAY more expensive.... ALWAYS. so buy a bike already built as in the above post you might get something finishing trials for 1500 2k would be nearer the mark i honest reliable cub or bantam trials preped and ready to ride, by which i mean alloy rims electric ignition alloy tank renthals, proper levers etc etc will always be 3500

dip your toe literally in the water by doing the alan jefferies in the yorkshire dales in july.. plenty of streams plenty of miles all in one day if you can do that and think that was ok then you ll be in with a chance..

the first stage of prepreration would be to go and watch.. even just a couple of days will give you a fell for the event sections and weather.. you ll know then if you can have a go..

steel rims are significantly cheaper than alloy and readily available 19 inch trials tyres are as well the decsion to allow 18 is based on post 65 availability thankfully that is now resolved. it matters not a jot if the tyres arent very grippy we ll all be on the same ones and they ll be no outrageously steep hills or rocks to hop off.. as they ll be no rocks to hop off modern rear shocks are wasted , basic oil filled steel bodied shocks with rubber eyes should be the standard keeping costs down and bikes real forks should have OEM internals why do you need anything else ? let me know when the first trial is and i ll be along on my ajay

i d like to ask for evidence of a 450 pre65 bike entry for a trial please and equally evidence of a 240 pre 65 bike trial that has now reduced to just 150 i believe your vision of a falling entry ever more diverse pre 65 scene is wrong. we ran a trial last week that was full over a month before entries closed, a more disparate mix of bikes has never been seen. a wider age range of riders has equally never been achieved. the sections have undoubtedly become harder bikes have become more complex not all but some and sadly many original riders have left us as age takes its toll. classic motorcycle sport chose unlike vintage car sport to allow modifications unlimited virtually and the differences are stark. vinatge car sport is elitist ( i know, i am amongst them) and expensive beyond anything we on our humble pre65 can think of and yet bikes that were aquired or built for sveral hundreds of pounds can now be forund to be worth several thousands and many working class and retired riders may well question the sanity of throwing them at rocks in these austere times they can be sold for many times what we originally aquired them for. Deryks original rules still stand tall and the read remarkable similar to the countries premier pre65 club any thing else is a discussion point and nothing more the above suggestions already have ifs buts and maybes.. alloy rims or sizes that were never available fo the bike whilst in production.. and who would scrutineer such a bike. in a club as large as Yorks classic i know of only half a dozen blokes qualified to fill the role competantly and would they want to.. not on your life.. they ve better things to do on a sunday morning than argue the authenticity of a widget on a 1959 fandango.

sad to say that the shake is taking something of an enforced break at the moment. run for many years under the wings of rochdale and district club as a round of yorkshire classics excellent premier championship. last held on 29 September 2013 the route much shorter for the last dozen years or so since the land closest to the village was 'developed' the site and access roads are now part of ongoing dash for green energy as windfarms are developed on/ adjacent to the site and the quarry is been excavated for 45000 cubic meteres of stone for the turbines access roads..

i have the electrix ignition on mine plus jim pickerings own flywheelweight i tried to make a heavier one but couldnt add more than about 50g .. not worth the effort. works very well.

so i ask again.. why in a low reving low usage engine are you using it.. no one else does.

hey if a club /championship has rules ride something thats within the rules.. you can still buy rideable twinshocks for under a grand why spend that and more building something not eligible for the trials you ride in?

why are you using a fuel additive.. no one else does..
