chain tensioner moved to arm on my cub never had a problem, just tilt it back a smidge ( a 2lb hammer is probably best) so that the chain doesnt just touch the rear edge and wear through it too quick.
-
I've no woodruff key on my rotor and i've never had a problem, just put a new clutch and primary chain on no probs. the guy at Greystone tigercubs has all the bits and mails tham that day only once have i had to wait more than the next day for stuff.
-
just had my carb off my new beta for the first time today, what a pig to get off.. rear guard off, rear section of exhaust off, airbox and rubber gaitor off
cant believe how much 'dirt' has got in the airbox in just two trials and two 'short ' jet washes, looked ok till i got the box out and looked right down in the bottom about a 1/4 inch of silt hiding down there. rubber boot to carb was also a hiding place for the stuff little or none at entrance to carb and none at all in carb.
question is though... there are 3 exits for excess fuel and only the overflow actually has a tube on it should the other two ( the one on the nearside of the carb and the one underneath?)

we should'nt assume that not finishing near the top is not worthwhile,
in 2000 i pulled myself out of a hospital bed (heart replaced by plastic bits 3 months earlier) braved the isle of man steam packet then tugged carried and occasionally rode my 350 enfield round the manx 2 day classic finished last but one
who won, i dont know and it didnt matter to me, been there was what counted
we ride for ourselves mostly, some to drop least marks, some to beat the next man, some to finish and some to prove a point all equally good reasons and all worthy of an equal chance in the ballot
-
go along to any 'club' trial and ask to ride the easiest route, do a full lap on that and where the sections were too easy, ride the harder route on that section, your not there to win only for practice and experience.
watching or observing a trial and sections is okay but sections always look easier when you dont have to ride them.
so just ride and enjoy,

If you hadn't got a new housing ..
Araldite is an amazing cure all for leaky engines build it up in thin layers and it works a treat it sets rock hard can be moulded into shapes doesnt mind engine temperatures and lasts and lasts used it on alloy, cast iron and bronze never been let down.
-
got my dear john letter this morning..
better luck next year i hope
-
So what makes them so desirable then , i have a great 74' 247 montesa 95% original, class winner ( even in my hands), V5, worth 350 - 500 max?
easy to ride, maintence free, runs like a train
great twinshock bike but virtually zero demand.. why?
-
if the bikes 'complete' the price is reasonable, the spanish are very keen to buy spanish or english bikes as long as in original condition or have 'history'
I have some experience of selling to spanish collectors who think nothing of the drive to the uk and pay cash to pick up bikes/ frames/ engines/literature etc. I have dealt with more than one who have travelled to America for bultaco and Montesa's with history
i have always found them to be fast payers and a pleasure to deal with and above all pretty keen on trials and I cant find much wrong with that..
-
if it runs better with choke then its almost certainly an air leak most likely any where in the carb to engine assembly
rather than spend the rest of your life looking for it strip the lot down clean it up (gaskets and mountings) so they are perfect
replace any suspect gasket/ rubbers and re assemble with care, if that doesnt cure it at least thats one more thing off the list
-
just bought an 04 beta, sooo easy to ride dealer said 04/05 had had problems with stator they had done 8 in 3 years ( not a lot). promised to replace mine for cost of parts if it went wrong.
had it in bits this weekend to understand what goes where and so that i dont have to find out on the middle of the moors and its simple, easy to take apart and put back togehther.
having given it a couple of days of use i would not want my money back!
-
Blimey triathlon, marathon..
the last thing we need is more ultra fit and healthy blokes making us look like middle aged has beens ( or never beens in my case)
buy a bike and enter a trial, trials has to be the easiest sport to access in the world
ps its addictive and the spending never stops
-
how long should it be before the fan starts to run?
ive had the bike ticking over for 10 minutes and no fan yet i rode it for 2 hours at the weekend and although i never heard the fan run surely it must have been as the bike ran non stop for the whole time and did not suffer.
i'm using it at a trial for the first time this weekend as a precaution can i bypass the thermostat and if so how?
-
'Ballot' seems a little, i dont know how to put it but riding at the last couple of trials i've heard all sorts of 'definate' ways of winning in the 'ballot'
1, enter with your son or daughter
2, observe for one year
3, enter and lose at the 'ballot' for 3 years
4, use the address of your holiday home in spain to enter
5, not be entered on a cub or james
no matter what the criteria are the guys who run the thing and put there own time and no doubt money into it surely have the right to 'choose' who they want in thier trial and at the end of the day we'll all be be there anyway competing or just enjoying the weekend or heaven forbid passing time waiting for the SSDT
-
thanks for the thread,
the only fault i can find with my new bike is the wheel rubbing on the silencer was going to pack the silencer mounting out with a couple of thick washers but if it'll take it i'll warm it gently and apply brute force..
unless you know better??
-
oh oh
now while it certainly does work it can be addictive so use cautiously other wise one day the bike wont start no matter what you use..
-
Living in a terrace house with a 12 x12 kitchen i kept a yamaha xtz dakar replica and a bantam pre 65 trials bike tucked neatly behind the kitchen table
they lived there for 3 years (which was longer than any of my girlfriends of the time)
but I can probably be beaten by my 'former' brother in law who lived in a pig pen for a couple of years in a tent made from plastic sheet whilst he ran a car restoration business from the barn 0n a friends farm
-
what shampoo would you use on it when jet washing..
-
my accountant tells me that its better to spend money now and quickly! as tax on purchases is only 17.5%. tax on savings is 30% during thier life time and then another 40% at the end of your lifetime.
i didnt work as an argument with the missus though but its amazing how much you can buy with 10 quid if she asks!
-
paul jackson ace builder from these parts regularly fits pvl to bikes he'd be a good start point for how to set it up, i understand a lot of it comes down to where you got the pvl from as they may not all be the same!
-
I ve ridden in a couple of horsforths modern trials on my cub and they were a good do i was made to feel welcome at signing on by the organisers even though i did nt have the latest model bike!
with over 100 riders and as many walking round how about a bit of our mx cousins type of arm bending...
we dont start till all sections are manned , if you bring an observer you get your entry fee back, pay the observers like some clubs are, after all we pay x for the bike y to up keep it z to enter why not a bit more for the guy / girl who has to stand rooted to the spot for 3 or 4 hours..
there's never a valid reason to call anyone who gives up thier time so you can have a good time
-
As a bodger of cubs i dont have much experience of the B40
but i know of a nice one with a mk1 624 amal 170 main .105 needle and 3.5 slide needle at the middle slot (acording to the notes i took)
with the pvl you've nailed the ignition with either the mark 1 or 2 faber frame ( the later is steeper i think) you've nailed that, everything else sounds cock on the only thing left is YOU..
and if you want to ride at 'probably' the best p65 club look no further than
http://yorksclassictrials.co.uk/index.htm
dont go by reputation read the event reports on the site and come and have a look, loads of B40 and c15 better still ride! 10 quid to enter 8 if your over 65 and you can join the club on the day for a fiver
