the previous post probably echos my own thoughts, plant trees.. lots
Christmas trees are ideal, mature relatively quickly to a 'cash crop' fantastic at reducing noise. amongst the trees create artifical sections (just like horse paddocks have artifical jumps) from logs, trees, rocks (concrete waste).
result a small income and area to practice

I RATE THE ABILITY TO STAND, COMMUNICATE AND FEED MYSELF ALL A LOT HIGHER THAN THE 100 QUID I SPENT ON A HELMET ( NOT TO MENTION THE DISERVICE TO THE LADIES IF MY FACE SHOULD BE MESSED UP)
SERIOUSLY ALTHOUGH WE MIGHT BE COMFORTABLE WITH OUR OWN ABILIES SO DONT FEEL THE NEED TO WEAR A HELMET, WHAT ABOUT THE YOUNG KID WHO LOSES CONTROL OF HIS BIKE AND RUNS INTO YOU. I SAW THIS HAPPEN TO TWO RIDERS , BOTH WEARING LIDS, ON ONE EVENT THAT SAW BOTH HOSPITALISED AND THE INNOCENT GUY BARELY WALKED AGAIN NEVER MIND RODE A BIKE..
-
I have a starting point of 6 in the front and 4 in the back and work up or down to suit,
DONT FORGET TO PUT RIMLOCKS ON! I've only ever not fitted them once and the valve pulled out on the 5th section of a road trial and the spare tube was back on the car seat..
lessons learnt the hard way are hard to forget

Autosol with a cloth will remove the surface 'rust', then after every wash a light spray of wd40 should keep it neat enough
-
fantastic collections Legs and Martin
(they dont need Naomi to keep them interesting, and their original owners are now too bulky to fit in the wardrobe)

Michelin or IRC would seem to be the most popular. Some p65 clubs have rules about tubeless tyres and rims though that you should bear in mind..

others take a different view or no view at all
http://www.redroseclassictrials.org.uk/regulations.html
thinking about it though is there a technical advantage to tubeless tyres.??
-
we get too many people complaining about spelling etc. so its refreshing to see the use of the continental languages in the correct context, however it's double s and hyphenated.
-
yeh he's right Andy TC is very slow today ( AOL gold broadband), thanks for the hint though
-
yeh! put big long seats on em and big tanks then maybe Ricky or Bubba could become world trials champs??
The George Bush thought process of ''if we cant beat those folks, change the rules..''
-
Could that Montesa have any more stickers on it?
although i ride p65 every weekend and love the old books and black and white photos like 'Big Johns', these colour shots of real trials are the real deal keep em coming.
enthused with nostalgia i'm going in the garage in the morning with my can of 'easy start' and the '74 montesa that hides in the back is going for a ride.

What do they say about acting in haste then repenting at leisure...

thanks Mr. L. and my apologies, job well done!
-
Great idea/ solution and just the sort of thing that i would have thought Messers Lampkin, Birkett, Shirt and Rathmell would have been eager to share with thier customers or prospective customers via websites etc
we're all eager to make the most of and get the best from our bikes so please guys don't keep these 'works' secret mod's a secret!

Wyldes in leeds have the white epoxy tank sealer, 20 quid, mix it up, pour it in leave for 4 days, fill it up and ride off...
-
i was lucky (?) to have 2 candidates on my doorstep at the same time during the election, i challenged them on the defra rubbish that was going on the labour lovie said off roaders had no place off road. the liberal said ''i like rambling, ramblers could do more to clear up after them selves'' and that as long as we left it as we found it he didnt have a problem with us
liberals won in rochdale by 40 some votes
we/ you can make a difference!

Good thread so far steve and i'm sure we've all learnt something I have the k+N cone type filter on mine, with no splash guard ( no oil tank either for that matter), ive never oiled it or any thing ( in 18 months) i take it off every weekend after the trial and pressure washer and give it a wipe out never anything other than a very very little condensation in it.
I know you' ve peobably spent the best part of a ton on the carb so far but the dellorto's do work well almost straight out of the box, certainly good enough to win
http://yorksclassictrials.co.uk/results.htm
August 7th class K won convincingly by a cub with a brand new dellorto ( and a decent rider)
-
I have a decent enough cub, at the moment it has the tl honda carb on it and although the guys are right in saying that most of the trials dont involve snapping open the throttle your carb should work as you would want it too at all times. (mine does, that only leaves my riding as the weak link..)
I would only fit my Amal for an event that demands it,By coincidence I checked out a top riders bike on Sunday at the trial and he was running a jap carb yet always rides the amal for Scotland, speaks volumes...
the popular choice for off the shelf availability seems to be the dellorto at the moment in our club.
If you stick with the Amal I would wind up the tick over a fraction and see what difference that makes and as you've now got a spare slide why not get the file out and play with the opening

10 out of 10 for entertainment to the Uber cool, he's the man, socal dudes!
(loved the un PC Avatars)

You should be following Yorkshire Classic's trials, everbody on the mailing list was emailed the results of todays trial at 3.35 does any club do it quicker?
-
Way back when,,
I was mountain bike racing and helmets were not compulsory (based on the fact that they made you sweaty!)
I won a top quality helmet and proudly wore it to the next race, head came into brief contact with overhanging rock
outcome.. one very split outer shell and crushed innner shell to helmet and one big bump on head and BIG headache,
never ridden without a helmet since...
to ride in a competition or to practice without a helmet is inexcuseable, how can events run this way?
-
The guys only just got divorced, I know what my first purchase would be...
-
Its worth taking it yes but with all these govt. type jobs, each person has there own role and there'll probably be a man who inspects and no one else can.
With regard to the guy with the new gas gas and a certificate of newness that is DEFINATELY bang out of order. How many new cars and bikes quequed round the block did you see when you went?
NONE thats because its new and has a special certificate.
I suspect the majority of the time that these bikes are requested to be seen it is because the person behind the desk has never heard of them, and lets cut to the bottom line.....
if i turned up with a blue gasgas with sherco stickers all over, insurance for a blue sherco, mot for a blue sherco. What do you think the guy is going to call it when i get my V5!
-
Fantastic insight overthehill in to work that to most of us just happens, makes turning up and riding the trial seem easy.
-
GOOD EFFORT WOODY , IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU FOLLOWED MY ADVICE BUT CAME UP AGAINST A JOBSWORTH CULTURE, AT LEEDS THEY ARE NOW ASKING TO 'INSPECT' ALL VEHICLES WHERE AS IN MANCHESTER THEY CANT BELIEVE YOU'D EVEN BE ASKED. AT LEAST YOU DID N'T HAVE TO TRAILER THE BIKE TO THEM IF THERE PREPARED TO COME TO YOU TO LOOK AT IT.
i WAS ONCE WOKEN BY 4 TRAFFIC POLICEMEN AFTER I HAD MADE A POSTAL APPLICATION FOR A TAX DISC FOR A VINTAGE CAR THAT I HAD OWNED FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
iT TURNED OUT THAT A VERY NICE LADY HAD BEEN UNPREPARED TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS HAD SEEN MY CAR AT A RACE MEETING WRITTEN THE REG. NO. DOWN AND PUT IT ON HER CAR!
THIS VERY NICE LADY WENT ALL THE WAY TO COURT PROTEsTING HER INNOCENCE BEFORE COLLAPSING IN A FLOOD OF TEARS AND THROWING HERSELF AT ''YOUR HONOURS'' MERCY..
FINED 30 QUID..
