Thanks for the help guys.
Do any of you guys' Scorpas make any noise coming from the barrel, and do you see the knocking as a problem? its no where near as bad as my last bike was. I will buy some good 2T oil tonight (Castrol TTS) then the day before i ride it, ill get some fresh fuel (cant decide if to use optimax or not)
I emailed Scorpa and they said i should run 2.5% oil..... what is that as a ratio.
Cheers

Iam a bit of a mechanic n00b, could you please explain to me how you lift the needle, and what exactly it does. I gather its in the carb somewhere.
Thanks for your help. Its not when its hot, but when its cold it knocks, i havent had a chance to get it as Andy said "trial" hot. Its not the clutch, that just makes that lovely whining sound!
-
Ok thanks mate, what if it doesnt clear up? You cant really hear it unless its ticking over, even if i open the throttle a tiny bit, then i cant hear it anymore, just that lovely melow sound the exhaust makes.

Ok after having a little play on it today i have a few concerns.
Number one. I just ran it for a while and rode it round the garden, and the engine is knocking quite a bit. I was wondering if this is likely to be due to the fact that When i got home i noticed there was virtually no fuel in the tank so i put a splash of the only stuff ive got in which is either 50:1 (about 3weeks old) or 60:1 (About a month old.) Could the fuel be making it worse? There was a little noise there when i went to look at it, but it wasnt anything to put me off the bike (nothing out of ordinary). Iam also using old Silkolene 2T oil, which Kev@GasGAs told me not to use in my Gasser because it makes them knock when its not warmed up (i didnt really warm the bike up before pottering round the garden, just maybe 2mins)
Do you think if i mix up some fresh 65:1 with Castrol TTs 2stroke it will make much difference?
Iam really worried about this as its seems my nightmares are coming true.
Number two. I dont find this a problem as it goes into neutral really easily when the bikes running or not, i just thought it was weird - When the bike isnt running and its in gear, i cant roll the bike at all even with the clutch in, i found this quite weird as i could on my gasser is there something ive missed? However when the bike is running the clutch is sweet as you like no dragging or anything.
Please get back to me on this as iam a little concerened about it and would like to know if theres anything i can do, or if this is out of the ordinary.
Cheers Guys.
Also just to point out - i dont think its loosing power as i find it one of the most powerful Trials bikes ive ever ridden, i could wheelie it for miles if i had the courage, compression seems good too. ANOTHER ALSO, should i run it on Optimax, might this help?

Im not really into pink.
I will buy up some of that Carbon fibre stuff, ive also got to get a new rear tyre as the current one is a little knackered, its all spend spend spend.
-
IF you got it off ebay is it thick enough? have you got a link.
Cheers

Will do can't wait.
The power of this things incredible, i was riding it down the garden was going to do a little wheelie over a brokern paving stone and nearly wheelied into a tree. Think im going to get a slow action throttle.
-
Yes, its in pretty good condition, flat sump guard, waterpump guard, rad guard, could do with new back tyre and a few other little personal bits and bobs (bar ends for instance.) I think the owner is on this site somewhere! Unfortunately though i will not be able to ride it on proper ground for about three weeks!

Ive just bought an 04 Sy250,
I was wondering which fuel mixture to run it on, it was previously run on 50:1. I was wondering what you guys would recommend. Is there any other things that i should watch out for when maintaining this bike?
Also i know that on the frames of Sys they tend to get rub marks where boots rub against the frame, as the frame is in blue i can always touch this up, however have any of you found another way of protecting the frame, e.g. putting carbon fibre type bits to help protect it.
Thanks a lot guys, any tips for a first time Scorpa owner would be great.

id like to see them on a bike to see how they would look, as iam not sure they would go very well :S
-
Or the one that broke down at Barcelona
-
Well, they seem reasonably priced, next time i need pegs, ill get TrialCast ones, like you say to support the smaller companies.
-
Do you have to buy the bracket as well with these for trials bikes?
Whats the benefit of these over say the Hebo ones, do they rust?
-
Yer, ive been riding a 92-93 Climber, its great in the dry but when its a little bit damp, you dont half get fed up with picking it up and trying to get the bike started. But it sounds like you do want to do the rebuild.

I also ride for Horsham Riders, friendly club.
However quite a way from Nutley!
-
Ok ill keep my eyes open, there was one i should have bought when i first sold my bike but didnt for some reason.
REALLY wish i had now as i cant find any more Sys that are within a reasonable distance and not tatty.
-
Could you please give me an example of a tatty one at dealers, as i was looking at Colin Appleyards Sy250s.
Thanks

Hi, ive been looking around for 05 Sy250s and the only ones i have found are at dealers, and cost about 2500, however i could probably find an 04 example for around 1900 (BVM currently have one, but it looks tatty to me [What do you think its on their website])
Paying 2500 for a bike would mean borrowing money off my folks. However i could by an 04 example on my own.
My question is, is it worth the extra money and possible waiting for an 05 SY250?
Ive read nearly every topic on here about them and still cant really make my mind up, it seems that there are very few differences except the exhaust is made of a different material at the front (or something) and the frame isnt blue. I also assumed that all the 05 Sy250s had flat sump guards, but i went to look at one last week and it had the rounded one.
Any help would be great guys

Mine does that as well, maybe its so we buy the mag,as to be honest i reckon thats the only reason a lot of people buy it!

Im in the market for a new bike a the moment and out of all the 04s/05s ive ridden, i find my friends Gas Gas 250 (was a 300cc but changed barrell) the most fun to ride, it has loads of grunt, but after a few trials on a new barrell and piston its already rattling, hes constantly got problems with it and the bike is starting to look quite tatty, (at the moment every time he rides at a wet/muddy trial the carb fills up with crap) Ive ridden a 200cc Beta which is ok, but its not really as... aggressive as my 99 200 was also i just cant ignore the dodgey Italian electrics, thats why iam in the market for a Scorpa and a Scorpa only, ive ridden an 03 and 05 one, the 03 one was lovely with low down pull and with the 05 one i was so worried about the fact the bike wasnt quite right and id driven for miles to buy it, i didnt really think about how it rode. Its your choice, it depends what you like, but iam sure after a few trials you will get used to whatever you choose, hence why i would go for the Beta, because i cant afford for bikes to go wrong on me.
-
I dont actually understand what this Mitani is really, do they just tune trials bikes? Do they have any UK stockists, can you buy bikes off them..... etc etc.
Sorry if you can get this off the site, but i find it hard to navigate round it.

Went to look at a Scorpa today, sounded perfect, but unfortunately i had to walk away, it had just a few too many dents/chafe marks on it for me, and i personally thought the engine was slightly rattley its probably just me being pickey, i have a rattley engine phobia. I feel really sad now as i still dont have a bike, i just hope another one comes up soon, the only second hand Scorpas like i want ive seen in dealerships, which are just a little too pricey. Iam becoming tempted to start looking at Betas to open my options a little bit, i cant stand not having a bike, even though ive only missed one (soon to be two ) events.

He hasnt buggered it up, hes just done that dodgy upward mudguard mod , so that he can get increased something or other.
-
Ha! Iam thinking maybe you should have said something in your original post!
Thats hilarious
