  1. Steady on Ishy!! can't speak for 'British' but I'm only speaking as I'm finding, yes I know that our bikes get thrown at mud and rocks and all that crap BUT...ain't that what there built for??? I think that some bikes need looking at more than others, so far my Sherco is taking quite a bit of 'looking after'. I have spoke to other Sherco owners at trials and they have had no problems with water or mains, so I guess my bike must have been made on a Friday afternoon
  2. Just prepaired my 01 250 for Sundays trial, I'll do as you say Wayne but if I find water in the box after this it will be the straw that breaks the camels back!
  3. Hi Wayne, Conditions this time or year are mainly mud and streams and more mud I've never had a look inside the airbox before I wash the bike cause the things covered in mud!......When I use a jet washer I do try not to 'aim' it for too long under the rear guard. The Airbox is in good condition with no splits and a good rubber sleeve attachment to the carb. The Airfilter looks in good condition & is washed after every trial and dried out before applying Silkolene filter oil. I also grease the underside of the filter where it mates with the airbox, I also check that the filter 'lid' is the right way round when I place it over the top of the filter. I make sure the rear guard is attached properly to the under side of the airbox lip, I then apply duct tape around this join (I've even used duct tape & silicon sealer before now...and it still water got inside the box!!!). After every trial I wash the bike then let it dry, then I'll take the rear guard off and take the air filter out, most days the airfilter will have some dirt/mud in the base of the filter (not much, but enough to warrant cleaning again). and upon shineing a torch into the airbox there will be a small 'puddle' of dirty water in the base of the box!!!! so then it's box off and carb off and a clean up all round The only thing I havn't done is put a new airfilter in....but the old one looks to be great condition. So am I missing something or what?? It's getting to be a right pain doing this after every trial
  4. Hi Alan, The bearing make is FAG (honest) I've seen the brand being used at work in most of our heavy plant. Couldn't tell you where there made but isn't everything made in China or Japan these days??
  5. Yeah Andy I know that, so does that mean yanks would wear it 'round the front' and us brits wear it round the a*** then?? Fanny pack just sounds a bit odd
  6. Your right TX270, there must be something wrong, when you think about it...... we pay
  7. I got two main bearings and two DL crankshaft seals for a grand total of
  8. Why do they call it a Fanny pack then???
  9. Wow $62 in total!! whats that in real money??
  10. The 143cc conversion has more power than a RTL Honda!! I must get me a go on one of those little bikes!!.
  11. Cheers for that Gaff, interesting stuff about the little aircooled Yam. I wonder if the 143cc kit will be available to joe public?. It was nice to see the Micks bike was the 'proto' model with the better looking back mudguard than the one we could buy over the counter. Apart from the rear tyre that bike would be one cool bike to own.
  12. use hairspray to put the grips on (honest!) leave for a couple of hrs and the spray must evaporate or something
  13. Alan, I've got no problems buying from dealers if the charged ' a couple of pounds extra' but thats the point, on some parts folks get well and truly shafted......I wonder how much Sherco would charge for 2 main bearings and Crankshaft seals?? If only I was rich enough not to bother
  14. Hi Gaff, wasn't that alloy tank on that 125 Scorpa just a piece of art or what!! Whats the word on the 250 4 stroke then?? I take it it will be a Yam engined machine??
  15. I emailed Steve Saunders before Xmas about his trails school's and had no reply either...the guy must be that well off he don't need the hassle or the money
  16. 60 Years of age.....he had a stall at the twinshock show here in the midlands today. Some of his old bikes were on show plus a very tasty looking Scorpa 125 4stroke with a lovely crafted alloy tank...so I wonder if he is going to ride the little 125 in the SSDT after all
  17. My God!! I myself have been out of the game for years and bought a Sherco with main bearing rattle!! Anyways in fairness I was told (and I could hear it) about my bikes problems before I bought it, back to the job in hand. The job is straight forward enough, as you say you will need a flywheel puller and also a Clutch holding tool, there are other ways of locking the engine up to undo nuts but most of them can be a bit heath robinson. Download all the files off the Sherco website and your away, besides the bearings and seals you'll also need: waterpump seal, base gasket, head gaskets (o rings) and a crankcase gasket (I thinkj thats the lot!). I managed to do mine in a day (from start to finish), Don't buy the seals and bearings off the dealer...you WILL be ripped off.....I got the bearing numbers and seal part numbers off the Sherco website and I got them from a local bearing stockist for about 7 pounds in total. have fun Mark
  18. Why did Bultaco change it's name to Sherco??
  19. I pay about 62 quid for a X11 and 63 quid for a IRC (which is a great tyre ) (from my local dealer)
  20. Used to own a 305, bright orange and white...lovely The motor in mine was a bit tired, the previous owner was a good expert who thrased the bike into the ground nearly........ but it still pulled like a train, I found it a reliable enough bike to own (as reliable as todays bikes anyways). Didn't have much to do with the brand after I sold the 305.
  21. Lots of people own the bike above...it's called a Gas Gas
  22. Wonder boy...what bike do you ride? At least Scorpa must have it's **** togethor, seeing as Markyboy hasn't had to have his carb off yet
  23. After taking the carb off my 01 Sherco for the umpteenth time (in the warmth of my shed) I'm starting to wonder if there is any trails bikes out there where you havn't got to take the rear guard off and the airbox just to get the carb off. I dread to think if ever I had to get the carb off at a trail after a few muddy laps!! what are Beta's like or Montesa's like?? There's allot to be said for a bike thats user friendly with the spanners in mind The old Sherco seems to be running too lean for my likeing, after fettling with the carb and the ignition timing I'm starting to get p****d off with it.
  24. It seems to me that Dabster is never wrong and is always right .............. there's one on every chat forum. They fail to see that everyone has there own opinion
