Silkolene filter oil works for me
-
OK Guys, (BIG YAWN) you've won...
-
The reason I find them a bit lame (again, no offence intended) because allot of folks will go along with what the majority says....."Dave Thorpe said there's less grip with a tube"
Big up to Dave Thrope but...who did he get the info off? word of mouth, tyre manufacture's trying to sell there wares, TMX!! etc etc...
Not sure why they dropped the tube but my guess is, Fashion and maybe folks getting p****d off pinching the tube putting new tyres on
On a different note, this made me laugh.
I overheard a couple of Yow Yows at a christmas trail in the black country on New Years day..................."them 4/stroke Scorpas seem nice?"........."wouldn't touch them with a barg poll mate!"......."whys that then?"............"cam go's pop on the 125 yam engine"....."happened to me brother's mate's road bike"......I'm tellin ya, leave well alone"...." sod them then"....."hey mate have you heard about them Yam engines............
Back to tyres, I ride with 5 psi in the back and 4psi in the front, I'm not sure how much 7lbs is
Clean ride guys
-
Sorry Guys, but your statements seem a bit lame to me (no offence)
If there is a difference, it aint gonna make much difference to your average Joe Club rider (me).
I can imagine that yes a Tubeless tyre has stronger sidewall's than it's tubed counterpart, but i cannot see how my tyre will now not grip as good just because I've put a tube in it.......the one things for sure I ain't getting any more puntures, slow or otherwise
-
Living the past eh?
Rim / tyre fit is much better than it was 10 years ago.
Add the fact you will get less grip with a tube in.
How do you work out you'll get less grip with a tube in ??.
If Rim/tyre fit is much better than 10 years ago how come matey boy above has got slow puntures
-
Fourstrokes seem to spit back or pop and cut out allot, I've had a couple of TLR's in the past and both of them did it!.
My Kawasaki KLX650 does it, and it can be a pig to start once it has 'popped out'.
Antbody know how to stop this 4stroke trait??
Gaff,
You must have won the lotto buying an RTL The prices of the old Honda fourstrokes has gone through the roof lately, there's a TLR 250 in TMX and the guys asking over 2k for it!!.
I'm waiting for a bigger version of the Scorpa 125 before I make my mind up.

Easy fix.......... Stick a tube in it, I've had mine in for a while now with no adverse affects.
I never trust any tubeless trails rim

Thanks for the tips guys,
I've now postioned the rear guard under the airbox and I've used silicon sealer to cover the gaps. Hopefully no water will get in now!....so far this is the only minus point I've found with the Sherco.
Funny thing is my 1991 TY250 never gets water in the Airbox, no matter how much of a soaking it gets.........good design I suppose
-
Made my own to fit my Discovery, 4x4 racks cost about
-
Equal amounts of Gassers & Shercos about at the Vic,> Montesa 315s followed by SY250 Scorpas in the popularity stakes.
I noticed that Gasser engines either sounded really nice quite and powerfull or they sounded like the the piston had cracked in half.......just an obvservation mind
God knows who won the day, didn't bother stopping till the end.

Most popular bike at the Vic Brittian today seemed to the REV3, they were all over the place.
Always a good indication on which bike to go for if you in the market for one I think

Not sure if the water is getting before the wash of after...I've never looked
I'm always a bit carefull with the jet washer around that area, My bike does already have the automotive weather strip between the exhaust silencer and the airbox.
There is nothing securing the 'airbox lid' down at all, I think I will look at securing this.
I must admit I don't have any sealer or duct tape between the mudgaurd and the frame...but I will from now on .
Wayne, I will check the link out about water stopping the engine...thanks, I still use the OE bolts to secure the mudguard to the bike....but I was thinking of using zip ties.......is it not a good idea with the ties?.
The mudguard lip is actually fitting between the frame and the top of the airbox, not the underside of the airbox!
thanks guys

Cheers Eiger, I bell them Monday and see what they say.
I'm waiting for the cert of newness for the Sherco before I go for it, it's been years since I last had to register a trails bike but from what I can recall it was: get MOT, take MOT and cert of newness + a letter saying what the bike was going to be used for, tax money & insurance. All to be took to the local DVLA license office.
My local bike shop spanner man is "trails man" so no problem getting the MOT
Thanks once again guys.

Cheers guys,
I Think I'll get a plate for the Sherco and then see if I can get the Yam/Sherco/Kawasaki on the same policy.
Boofont, I'm whith NIG @ the moment with the Kawka, I don't think They'll have multiple bikes on one policy. who are you with if you don't mind me asking?.
I want to pull a few road trails off this year anyway so what the hell.
Thanks for all your advice guys.

Anybody else getting water in the Airbox?
Past two trails now I've found water has got inside my airbox, the filter looks to be in good nick, I put Silkolene filter oil on it so I doubt water is getting through it.
The airbox is in good condition with no cracks or holes....the fliter is held inplace by a black plastic 'clamp' is all I can describe it as, it's just a push fit over the foam filter.
My old TY250 has a similar setup but the Yam is held in place by a large rubber clip/band...should the Sherco have this too??

overthehill, thanks for the advice,
I have already made it more secure by putting:
Steel grill on the inside of the window.
H/Duty hinges fitted with coach bolts with a steel plate on the back/inside of the door (so they can't just jemmy the hinges off)
Two H/Duty asp and staple again with steel plate on the inside of the shed and a couple of the padlocks that hide allot of the locking pin.
5 lever lock inside the shed.
I've also used metal strapping on all the side joins of the shed and more importantly where the roof is mounted onto the side's.
Apparnatly the twats don't even bother with the door they just 'push up' on the roof and off it comes.
Finally, I've got a good lock and chain that goes thru all the bikes...phew!!
When you start to look at it the more paranoid you can get about securing it....what if they try this and what if they try that?? it statrs to do your head in
I will look at an alarm of sorts though, I'll check B&Q out.

Thanks for that Stuart, I'll give them a bell to.

Like the REV 3, Might get one next year, a toos up between a Beat or a Montesa......both seem to have great quality (I think the Mont just might have to edge)
Hey Ron M, your first post is the biggest I've seen keep up the good work

Cheers Mac,
I've emailed Paul this afternoon, I'll let you know how I get on
Happy new year to all

I've just got back into Trails after an 8 odd year layoff, I recal GG having problems just before I packed in then!! and it looks like there still having problems now!!.
Saying that I've just had to replace the mains on my 01 Sherco...swings and roundabouts I guess.
I must admit, I wouldn't go near any GG because they just seem to have constant faults, ok some are good, but i think there seem to be more bad ones than good un's.
Why don't they sort it? this affects the reputation and resale value of the bikes.

Cheers for all the replys guys,
The dehydartion thing was interesting, the night before my last trail I'd had quite a bit of ale and the day of the trail I had the classic bad head, I had no breakfast either.
All of this could point to me being dehydrated...like I said in my first post, I'd never had arm pump as bad as this before (it was still sore in the evening!).
I shall endevor to drink pleanty of water (although I hate the taste or lack of it of water) I do like bananas though...so no problems there
I will purchase some sort of forearm trainer, it can only help....my next trail is new years day so I'm in training already...no beers for me new years eve

Hey Mick, it might be worth whipping the cover off and having a look see at your clutch plates/springs.
Sometimes the plates can get glazed, whip them out and a rub them VERY LIGHTLY on a flat concrete surface, just enought to take the glaze off them.
Go gently now dude

Different bike I know but.....I bought my 250 Sherco with 3 base gaskets fitted to it and retarded ingnition!!.
The bike wouldn't rev out and didn't feel very responsive, I put it back to std and wow...what a difference, it's a dream to ride now
If your bike is 'knocking' on full chat, buy some fuel additive...If your altering things to make it feel tamer...buy a smaller cc bike
BTW, Cool Avatar Rineholio...
