....ok
'nicosil'...i was being lame with "chrome" i retract my states...
Well i keep learning and being corrected, isnt there more than one type of plating that has/can be done. And a different manufacturer may use a different one? thats the impression i got when i had mine sent away.
And it cost

I dont think you will look out of place on that at a trial.
In the club i go to, there is enough older bikes, around 1995 mark and they usually score better than me !
As far as "competitive" if its in good nick, and the engine cases arn't corroded, (as is common on these ??)
then it will be more competitive than you !! Just dont go into the hard route at the club championship just yet for you and the bikes sake
I say go for it ! have fun, but that is a very early machine so will a good going over to check.
Hope that helps !
-
Fair enough,
but im restoring a 1992 bike, and side panels may not be available, so this may be a better option,
so how were the results?
-
you cant bore barrels on watercooled machines, as they are 'chrome' plated and so cannot be 'bored' what you can do is a new set of piston and rings will help alot, but after that its a 're-chrome' costing about
-
-
lol !
What a tangent that was !!
-
Are you saying that in your opinion,
Synthetic brake and clutch, can mix with ATF ? Im running atf dextron 3 in mine, good stuff.
Well my guess was that swelling seals would result in them perishing earlier? but thats just a guess, not any factoral knowledge.
... ...hmm... the dvd owners manual doesnt say whether you should mineral or synthetic in it, it just says that they use DOT 5.1.....does mineral come in DOT form ??
-
Lol
Apparently it swells the seals, but as someone else said here (cant remember name sorry)
If it leaks from the clutch into the gearbox then it will mix fine and not contaminate,
More maintainence more fun !! ...well for now
-
Well ive been told by others, and a dealer, that i shouldnt use synthetic DOT 5.1 (valvoline) and now i have to flush it out, and change the seals in my clutch slave,
Or do you think that this is just a myth ? ive been told that it swells the seals, the seals want replacing anyway, as the oil went somewhere last time, so i dont mind, but still for an 05 280 its annoying !

...
Cant say i know anything paticular about this model, but i dont imagine they get much of a beating, look for general stuff, is there any play in the forks, swingarm, and things like that, if the carb has been done then it may well have been looked after well?
Give it a good service too, Gearbox oil, spark plug, gease some bearings, and maybe change the brake & clutch fluid, although check if the clutch should have mineral or synthetic, i made this mistake recently, its gonna cost me my seals, altho i dont know if your bike even has a hydro clutch !
...But the mayor that has a girlfriend which is only big enough for a 70cc bike ?
Something sounds fishy there !
-
well i have a video that shows me how
A building next door, fully lit so i can work till late
from what i can remember of the dvd, you put it all together,
But the top part of the tube that screws on, just leave that off, well still attached to the spring, and just syringe it in. (where the spring is showing)
then screw on,
May be diff from 03, but then i may have explained that really badly.
any help lad ?
-
Fair enough,
But i just like to do things properly, im a perfectionist like that,
(i may use cockpit shine on my bike after every ride )
But the manual says to change it after 60hrs of use, and i know that im only a novice. I just didnt want the forks to get all manky ***** inside the forks,
Totalshell - thats a good point, but fixing things is just so much fun
-
alright alright.....Triple !!........
well, the bike is on 05, and it use to be serviced at <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> i know this as it came from there, but we got it alittle cheaper as it hadnt been serviced,
THATS THE FUN PART !
So should i not change it ? or should i ?
To do or not to do ???
Matt
-
Right, its coming up to maintainence time on my first bike 05 280 pro (well the only one that hasnt broken down after a month ! )
And id like to service the forks, while im doing other stuff
My questions are:
-Should i change the fork seals? im happy to, but there not leaking and i know that there relatively inexpensive
-Should i change the dustwiper on the top (i doubt but thought id ask)
-Also Is there a procedure for the tripe clamp installation? i've got the impression there is:
needs to be on a stand? bottom ones tight top loose?... i dont know anyhelp please?
I have a video on how to do them on the 2003 model, and i can't imagine the procedure being any different???
and ill also use decent fork oil,...anyone know the quantities?
Cheers Matt

A Girl ?
I imagine you can, GasGasuk are have a very large stock, and say they can get my the mudguards for my restoration project, (1992 GG)
Just give them or any GasGas dealer a call, (as they will all get the parts from GG-UK)
Hope that helps

Found this one of jim snail,
Thought it may help you identify your bike, dont recon much to the suit tho
This is a 1992 Contact GT25,
Its a 1992, because it doesnt have a chrome frame, and the carb intake goes into the barrel and not the crankcase, unlike the 1993 which does have these things,
The gasgas museum is usually a good place to look for a pic and ID your bike, try there
GG museum
Right... back to the revision.... sigh..
-
Does anyone have a pic of the engine?
I ask, because i dont know what colour to paint mine when its done,
Its a 1992 GT25 (250)
So what ?
blue; casings,
red; barrel, head, ignition cover
Clutch surround in silver??
I just cant decide, ive been on the gasgasmuseum website, but that wasnt much help, lol....
-
hi,
At the moment i am rebuilding this bike,
A 1992 250cc , called a GT25
Im rebuilding mine because it had a poor spark and always broke done, good reason
The stator coils are a common problem and i've had mine rewound, there are a few places you can go, i went to a guy outside stocksbridge, took a couple of weeks and was only
-
Why hello,
Im sure you will enjoy it here, this place is a real resource ! and lots of good people.
Have fun on the bikes !
-
OKie i will do !
Last exam is on the 31 of may ! woohoo..
I just need a little line of weld on the back of the engine where the swingarm bolt goes through, and also there is a small crack where the clutch slave attaches, which mean i had to tap a new hole, it still works,.......
Just thought id get it done if it was worth it and seeing as tho i've spent so much on it !!
(but ill bring it in)

Excellent FF !!
Thank you ! much appreciated
Ive got to really plod on and get some work done on it, when ive done my exams, as i want it for a spare in summer.
BTW FF,
Do <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> play with E-metal and a TIG Welder (ally) as i need abit done on my engine casing before i build it up.
I keep bringing this engine in lol
-
I know its a floating one when it moves so dont start !
BUT
im doing up a 1993 GG GT25, and i wondered if the disc is supposed to move or its excessive wear ??
i ask because its got loads of jagged teeth which interlock on the hub and disc, but theres play,
is it supposed to be there? OR is it just wear ??

Called <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central>,
Yeah, new seals and wash out with mineral, well...it needs refurbing anyway...
The outerseal was getting tatty and had broken, and the fluid must have gone somewhere before ???
so this will sort this problem out.
I had a maintainance day planned for after my exams anyway !! hehe.
gonna flush it out with mineral, then leave it stood with mineral in, then in 2months, ill change the seals, GB oil, before i ride it.
All good ?
(will stop filling the threads with my posts now. Sorry)

Sh*t
does this mean that all my rubber seals are dead ??
if it gets drained tonight it will have been in there... 48 hours....great...
Can you use
DOT in the brakes then ??
