  1. oko for me...or keihin if you are rich. Also easier to set up than dellorto I think. better to buy a kit complete unless you have a lathe for the adapter and a box of jets lee
  2. Glenn, its the spoke seat and angle that I am worried about. measure the rim inside diameter and compare to std. then guesss (good guess) on the spoke length. For sure they will be shorter. Then give it a go. let me know how long and how you got on lee
  3. I see what you mean on the ignition, although I dont think its electrical if you see what I mean. They either work or dont , especially when hot. The pickup position could be it. Is the pick up plate bent? Or the pick up damaged? Whats the carby condition like. Maybe the needle is worn, although i have never had one bad enough to affect the runng really. What about the exhaust, especially the silencer? I put a 300 together last week which was perfect round the garden but on a real climb it wouldnt rev out. It turns that the repacked silencer, was repacked by a numpty who filled every hole with wool!. Works out once I cut it open again. L
  4. There seem to be people here who are not convinced.....as indeed i wasnt. Maybe I could put it up for sale in the classifieds
  5. Hi Glenn, if it runs and starts ok, why clean the carby? never touch a running system. The 1,4 inch rim will take a standard 2,75 tyre. Your 240 has a 1,6 inch rim and the difference will cause no problem. Rears are available from Vee Rubber new, look on feeebay Uk. If no one comes up with fork oil data start at 150ml and see. 10ml more or less will then tell you if you are going the right way. Respoking fantic hubs is not easy. I have put gold 303 rims on some and also a silver tubeless gasgas rim. Whillst the 303 rims just needed 3mm shorter spokes (I ordered 4mm shorter - Doooh!), the angles were good. The gg rim needs 4mm shorter spokes, see above ;-) but the 36 holes dont line up and some of the spokes bend like an S. Good enough for the girls we go out with.... L
  6. me again. front Sprocket is 10 tooth so quite small, it goes to 9. The engine was rebuilt and a new chain and sprockets were fitted. I rode one sunday in bilstain over christmas. lost of sand and mud but it wasnt running more than that day. The bike then stood on my trailer and corroded nicly due to the road salt and I just got around to stripping to stove the frame. I also have a Raga with an IRIS on it since today. it is silver and not gold but it has to go!
  7. Hi Steve, the coil could be the problem, but also the wires...was it wet. especially the green trigger wire is susectable to aging. The isolation just falls off! Black to green is 40-60 ohms = trigger. Red to black is 400 to 600 which is primary. If the wires look ok, and the resitances too, try another coil. (Steve Goode). It will be from Ducati but seach my posts here how to wire it. If that all doesnt help pm me your address again and I will send a stator for you to try. Exmoor is getting close. Did you get fork bottoms or still on yami forks lee
  8. i didnt want to believe the horror stories. They are not too expensive and gold but.... I know its has been said before, but 4 hours?? The dealer would hide behind the "no garantee" on competition parts. And a 240 fanny for gawds sake. No steps, no clutch dropss be warned

    Fantis 307

I believe PEMs sold all the fanny stuff they had. Bill Pye has everything you need. pistons, Kickstarts etc etc. The rear linkage will have play, 70 quid odd for a bearing set. Ff the dogbongs are worn out that will be about 120 on top. Make sure the sump guard is good and all engine mounts are and remain tight. Outherwise the rear engine mount on the swingarm pivot will break. Only a few people can weld this because off the magnesium content.. Classictrial for example. Virtually bulletproof motor, the piston will start to rattle even when fairly new. Big windows and ports and all that. frames that had a hard life (all off them??) do bend and crank almost anywhere or everywhere. Shock is top from marzopcchi and is rebuildable Ignitions are rewindable, ht coils are available new as are the bearings. Look after those crankcases and it will go on forever.
  10. everybody, well those I know, use slow throttle here. fix the sputtering fist. The carby is probably cause.L

  12. 700 dollars us is about 550 euros or 450 uk pouns. it was a gift. I wont sell a bad 240 here for less than 800 euros.
  13. Pilot screw is ok to start. My crank seals were new also..... did you put exactly 1000cc oil in it? Try and ride it for about 15 mins, smoke and all. Then drain the oil. If you have less that 1000 cc,s its a crank seal. mine smoke like a steam train and used 400cc oil in 4 sections. It smellt terrible also...ATF does not burn well. Is the carby ok whats jets are in it? lee
  14. agreed I would run 42 on a dellorto
  15. Hi Doug world to fanny World. The 240 looks good and straight only the mudguards seem pattern parts. Axulsuv will be your man on that side of the pond Lee
  16. Thanks I will give them a cal! lee
  17. I just picked up a 2006 2.9 Sherco In reasonable condition, a fork stanction does have some damage. If it was chrome, I would know were to go, but it is back coated...teflon?? Where can I get it repaired... Lee
  18. should be an o-ring top and bottom. Missing top wont make any difference....my bet is that the o-ring on the cold start jet at the bottom is bU/(ered. A new one costs 2,5o with complete carby kit. Worth a try i think. If not, what are the crank seals like. i have rebuilt 200s only to have the bnes crank seal go on the first trial Lee
  19. Dick Walker (WES Exhaust) has had 100 TLR 250 o,25mm oversize made. Available via steve goode etc. The difficult thing is boring the barrel 0,25mm oversize. Many have tried and failed, some have succeeded. The liner needs sleeving at the bottom for the boring process. HTH Lee
  20. No problem. One side has a spring ...the one that springs back...the other side has a damper...it doesnt spring back at all. i think the forks would look better on my bike though and you have some off a 240 ;-). They spring on both sides as all good forks should lee
  21. I hope this is not classed a s selling on the forum....its not me, but I know him well.... http://cgi.ebay.de/Bremsanker-Zugstrebe-Fa...%3A1|240%3A1318
  22. Hi Spud, Have a look here. The report is from feb 1981 as rumors of a "approx 250" motor were made. The frame in the picture is a 200 minarelli modded for the new engine. The bike went into production in september 1981 http://www.webermichl.at/index.htm?bikes/fantic/hist240.htm dont bother washing it for exmoor.... Lee
  23. Iain, you are the man! PM on the way! thank you! lee
