250 is more than enough power for any clubman trial.
I ride an 07 250 txt pro which puts out more torque than my father in laws 05 300 txt pro and also brothers 07 250 txt pro.
All bikes feel different to me, regardless of year/model.
It's about what you feel comfortable on.
I've rode 125/250/300 and still prefer my snappy GG 250 txt pro 07.
I don't like the tame type of trials bikes, I prefer to have the power straight away, but hey, that's just me.
Some bikes I have ridden are so tame you can hardly get the front wheel in the air, others have put me on my ar$e.
Find a bike you are comfortable with and you will enjoy your riding a lot more.
Anything 07 onwards is pretty much the same, apart from the 2012 models brakes. They went a bit dodgey there where AJP had some issues.

Thinner plates sorted my father in laws stiff clutch.
This was after putting a new clutch kit in.
Using the new thicker plates with the kit made to much clearance so we used some new plates and some old. Clutch is back to being super light.
Also with the stiff front brake, mine is te same on an 07 250 pro. I'm used to it now but at first I found it hard to judge between half brake and full.
New pads may make it more spongey but I prefer sharp brakes for pulling stoppys.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Turned out it was the pickup coil that sits above the flywheel.

Done the trial on Saturday. Was really wet and boggy.
I decided to do the easier route and ended up winning
It wasnt about the winning for me, I learnt lots of new little things to make the sections easier ad really enjoyed it.
A guy said to me you won't get any harder trials conditions than what it was that day so I'm happy with myself.
Also enjoyed watching Ross Danby clearing all the expert routes and had a great day.
Roll on the next trial!
-
Yep, I will do.
Don't get me wrong i ride every weekend at practice places and have done for te past 8 months. However it's not a competition mind set that I'm in but more of a just for fun thing.
-
Sounds like fun.
I always wondered if there could be an indoor trials centre made for everyone to use.
I mean, go-karting is indoor and I presume they are just the same exhaust fumes as a bike?
Would be fun to have an indoor place to go to through the winter season.
-
Thanks for your advice.
I think I will go for the B route then just to get used to the markers.
I get really nervous before things like this and it puts me off haha.
-
So, this weekend is my first proper trial.
Nothing special, just a local club putting on a local trial.
Thing is, I don't know which route to pick.
We run 3 routes - expert, A and B obviously in that difficulty order.
I've got the skill to ride the A route but I've never had practice with flags and often get confused which way to go whilst in the mindset of doing a proper trial.
I was thinking of doing the B route just to get used to the markers but am worried I will be bored as its to easy for me.
I only get confused as they use the format of red being on the right and blue on the left. Sometimes there are yellow ones thrown in there aswell to mark routes which have a different section skipped out.

Went riding yesterday, bike started up first kick and ran great all day. Not even a splutter.
If anyone wants to know what part and where to get it from just post on here and ill let you know.
Gasgas seem to think the part is not available anywhere and want

Turns out it was the pickup sensor on the stator.
According to gasgas you can't buy these individually and have to buy a

Just to bump on this thread as I'm having a similar issue.
Is this the correct pickup for a 2007 gasgas txt pro 250?
It looks the same and has the correct hole spacing / measurements. It's just not listed as a gasgas part.
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/P7.html
It's resistance is 228 ohms.
Cheers, Lee.
-
Before I send my stator for a rewind I'm going to try a new pick up sensor.
Could someone tell me if this is the correct one? As it says its for gasgas : all listed models.

Hi.
Stupid question here but....
Can anyone tell me what ignition system is on a 250 Txt pro 2007 gasgas?
It says ducati on the regulator so does that mean its a Ducati ignition?
On trials parts USA it only shows 2005-2006 being Ducati and 2007 being kokusan.

Hi darryl.
I've had recent trouble starting my 07 txt pro 250. Turns out it was the stator. I borrowed one which I knew worked and it fired up first kick. Was a lot of head scratching moments as sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldn't. I'm sending my stator off for a rewind and all should be sorted.
I checked:
Engine cut out.
All earth cables and sanded the contacts.
Checked flywheel.
Compression.
Replaced Bart gear and idler. ((was shredded)
-
Anybody know of a good place to send my stator to be rewound?
I know of West Country winders but wondered I there are any more approved places out there?
Cheers, Lee.
-
Got an update on this.
So I took my flywheel off and all looked well. I cleaned up the sensor and put it back on. After this the bike wouldn't start at all.
So I took the stator off my brothers bike tonight and put it on mine.
What do you know, the weakest of kicks got it going.
It starts up like a dream now, especially with the new Bart and idler.
What unwanted to know though, is wether it's the sensor whats gone, or te stator itself.
The obvious thing is to have it rewound and all done but I was wondering if you could just buy the sensor itself?
I phoned gasgas and they said they don't sell them seperatley but I'm sure you could just solder a new one on?
I'm thinking o sendin te stator to West Country winders unless anyone knows otherwise?
Because obviously if there isn't anything wrong with the stator and it is just the sensor then there not going to tell me that.
Cheers for all your input and help guys. Has been a very head scratching experience
-
Hi dadof2.
I'm located in Stourbridge, West Midlands.
About 10 miles from Wolverhampton.
Compression is good. I think my next step is to put my brothers stator on mine and see if that gets it going.
-
Right, got the bike all back together and it kicked over first time.
Cut it out and tried to start it again but nothing!
Once again, a hard kick got it going but not a normal kick.
Took the flywheel off, everything looks as good as new.
Checked the gap on the sensor, all ok.
What the hell could it be!?
How do I check what the stator is putting out as I need to get this sorted ASAP.
Cheers, Lee.
-
I will take a photo tomorrow when I get chance.
Just waiting for head gasket and base gaskets to get here so I can put the cylinder back on.
Flywheel has never been a problem before but I will get it off anyway to check it over.
Cheers for all your help, I'm hoping it kicks over now that it has been freed up.
Gasgas out of stock on ignition covers
Trials UK charge more when you add the postage on.
Anywhere else that stock these and are pretty quick?
Not that I need it to start the bike up but will do if I want to ride the weekend

Hi guys.
Think I've found the issue.
I took the barrel off and the piston wasnt moving freely. It was really stiff up and down but it hasn't siezed and rings were fine.
I could hear a dragging sound from the flywheel side so I took the flywheel case off for a look.
I found that the flywheel was rubbing on the case and once removed the piston moved nice and smooth and freely.
Is this just a case I the casing being tightened to much as I put the cover on from my brothers bike and it didn't rub at all or has the flywheel moved towards te casing?
There is no play in the flywheel at all.
Cheers. Lee.
-
Thanks for all your help guys!
I've managed to get home for the week instead I workin away so tonight I'm goin to get the barrel off just to make sure it hasn't siezed up.
I'm sure it hasn't but I'm going to rule it out anyway.
-
That's the thing.
It's got spark, it's got fuel but it doesn't go every kick.
Like I said, a hard kick got it going again but it wouldn't stay running unless you give it some throttle. It just splutters out and doesn't sound like its running properly at all.
-
Hi dadof2.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm away from home for the week now and will be back to the bike next weekend.
I will check all the wiring and post back here when done.
Thanks again, Lee.
-
Thanks lotus.
When I have checked the plug it is went and smells of fuel. I get a spark when I hold the plug against the case.
Wiring all looks ok and have tried the regulator and coil on brothers bike and all was fine.
Took carb apart and cleaned it and checked the floats, all seemed good.
Not sure about the crank seals... Do these usualy go?
-
Can an engine be siezed if it has still got super strong compression?
Because I'm about to take the barrel off to check for any scoring or wear.
I don't really want to be doing another top end after only having it for 2 months.
Air filter is cleaned every ride and is well looked after in general. Is not just left to rot in the shed.
