  3. Hi all, looking for advice on how to remove and refit front and rear wheels on my 1995 Beta Techno. Tyres are knackered on both wheels so I want to take them off to bring them away to have new tyres fitted. I've never taken wheels off a motorcycle before so any instructions on how to take off and refit would be much appreciated.
  4. Thanks for that lineaway. I had never experienced cold stick until I got the Beta a couple of weeks ago. I had a lovely Yamaha Ty250 (which was stolen on me recently but that's another story) and never experienced the cold stick problem with that. So I was totally unprepared when I started up my Beta last weekend, pulled in the clutch (or so I thought) put it into first and it threw me off much to the amusement of my three young sons watching. Not something I'm keen to repeat any time soon. I bought myself a set of precision files and a Dremel last night. I'm going to clean down the bike tomorrow as per Dan's advice, drain down the oil and get stuck in.
  5. Dan, thank you so much for the advice. The bike is pretty grimy so I'll give it a thorough scrub before I start. Are there any particular torque settings for the bolts? The clutch lever is pretty badly damaged. A previous owner also stuck a bolt in it in lieu of the adjusting bolt. It appears that when you pull in the clutch lever it's not allowing the piston in the clutch lever assembly to fully come out. I understand from some of the posts here on the forum that the tolerances on the clutch itself are fairly tight. This may also be contributing to the 'cold stick'. So I'll have to invest in a new lever as well. The brake lever is also pretty shot so I'll replace both of them.
  6. Rgvlc, thanks very much for the advice. That seems fairly straight forward. I'll lie the bike down to stop the mainshaft bearings falling out. Should I be on the look out for wear etc. while I'm in there?
  7. Hi all, I'm going to clean up my clutch plates to try to eliminate cold stick on my 1995 Beta Techno. Dan Williams' instructions are fantastic but could someone point me in the direction of a step by step guide / instructions for the process of removing and replacing the clutch plates? I've scoured the internet for any sort of Workshop Manual to no avail. I want to do the job well and not make a mess of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Thanks Nelly1. I'll do that. I was checking out the price of a new clutch lever (the one on the bike is in a bad way). Not cheap. So I think I'll put the money towards the new lever and work on the plates that are already in it.
  9. Hi Pete, I'll get the Dremel before I start the job. Not knowing any of the bike's history I was toying with the idea of buying a new set of clutch plates and cleaning them up instead of working on the old ones.
  10. Thanks 0007. I checked my clutch lever and it's in a very sorry state. I'm going to have to add a new one to the list of parts required.
  11. Hi all, new to trials and eager to learn. Bought a 1995 Beta Techno last week. Running but needs a little work (had a nice Yamaha TY250 but it was stolen a couple of months ago hence me buying the Beta). Took it out yesterday and discovered the phenomenon of 'cold stick' when I put it into first and it took off on me (didn't have this problem with my TY). My sons were watching at the time and though it very funny. Luckily no damage done to either the bike or me (so far). So my first job will be the clutch fix project posted on the site by Dan. I'm sure I'll have loads of questions so I'll be very grateful of input from you all.
