    Stuck Float?

Many thanks both for the advice - much appreciated. b40rt - will try those pointers. And teamferret - I'll avoid that air line (just shows not to blindly follow those youtube 'tips'). Thanks!

    Stuck Float?

I foolishly left my TY175 standing for a few more weeks than usual - normally try and fire up every other week. It normally starts first/second kick no problem at all and always runs really well and cleanly. This time it wouldn't. It fired once but then nothing happened and I looked down and fuel was coming out of the overflow below. I'm guessing this is the float stuck? I looked online and the 'quick fix' seems to be to turn off the fuel and put compressed air in this exit overflow. Is that right? There's a small garage in our village with an airline who would do it (they are still open) but I don't want to screw it up. Nor do I massively want to strip the carb if I don't need to. Any quick pointers? Thanks!
  3. Back in 1979/80 I had a new 1979 Beamish RL250 and a 1977 TY175. As I recall (and it's obviously ages ago!!) I always preferred the TY175. I just found it much peppier/buzzy (it also had a one piece WES exhaust which maybe helped that) than the Suzuki and seemed to steer better. The RL always felt 'long' to me - maybe slacker steering angle - but I'm no expert on these things. But the RL had plenty of torque, a nice soft motor and plush suspension - pretty forgiving. Both were very reliable and dead easy to work on.
  4. 100% agree - stay safe. And surely let's not make this forum for haters or political statements. It's for TRIALS. Plenty of other forums/websites etc for anger/hate/vitriol. Cue a load of negative responses And support your local dealer where you can (obvs. via website delivery). What's everyone doing at the weekend...
  5. Welcome to the clan - nothing to add to the above good advice except I have found that a silicon furniture polish seems to give a good shine and protect the plastics.

    4RT to 4T?

I’m about to change my bike. Had my Montesa 4RT 2016 from brand new. Hardly ridden but nice to have a new bike (someone will get a minter in due course). The brief is simple. Something that needs zero maintenance (bar usual ongoing stuff) and will chug though easy routes. My question is (given above) should I go from Montesa to Beta? I’m not convinced on build quality or residuals of Beta versus Montesa. Honest views?

    2035

Really interesting share that - and I’m def not that tech aware! And when the behemoth that is Amazon is mentioned then (scarily) anything could be possible.

    2035

No new petrol or diesel cars in Old Blighty from 2035. Assume this will apply to bikes too? And then this TY pic pops up on my Instagram feed...nice!
  9. What about a 4RT? Nothing ever goes wrong, less depreciation, sounds awesome on full song, properly engineered.
  10. And always staggered how bottom will wind up and find grip on steep banks when others (2Ts) are in 2nd/3rd.
  11. From my limited experience the trick is to keep it rolling where possible (so not shut off so much as a 2T) in muddy sections and keep it smooth.
  12. Last week's printed edition of TMX. There's a rider (OK not trials) on the front cover and I did a double-take. Wonder if the editor noticed this before publication? Looks like the rider is covered in it anyway...

    ty175 mix

I have run mine at 50:1 on a modern Putoline 2T oil (strawberry scented - apparently though i’ve never smelt that!) and seems fine.

    2020 - EICMA

I last went to EICMA (Milan bike show - awesome) about 3 years ago so missed this lot. Came up on my instagram today...
  15. Looks nice indeed. Does anyone know if the standard 4RT is up for any evolution for 2020?
  16. Easiest deffo but an easy way to part with £500
  17. At least it looks red. When I saw “301” I had a near double take and thought of the 310 which had, possibly, the worst colour combo of any Montesa ever. That turquoise and dayglo combo - like you’d take a trials bike to a rave...
  18. Word of mouth always wins! Alas it won’t be on the said auction site any time soon...
  19. Minor detail I know, but why don’t the manufacturers (pretty much all brands) spend a wee bit of time on the copy for these releases. It’s the same when TMX pretty much cut and paste the poorly translated releases. It makes a massive difference.
  20. Agree on all the above - thanks. Maybe I will go TMX - look out for an ad in a couple of weeks! Cheers.
  21. As soon as the new 4RT comes out, I’m in. Just wondering (UK) where the best place is to sell a (very nice, hardly any use, mint, 2016 4RT since you’re asking..) bike these days. Not angling for any PM’s to buy it by the way. Back in the day I used to use TMX but suspect it reaches less folk nowadays. Also sold a couple of older bikes on Car & Classic with no probs. I distrust that well known online auction site. Maybe the classifieds on this site? Don’t really want to trade in but equally don’t want potential bike thieves coming round. Thoughts?
  22. Here is the post that was on Instagram yesterday. Can’t make much out except looks like a Beta-style rear mudguard. I hope they’ve sorted the side-stand on the standard 4RT!!!
  23. Biased as I am, they are lovely!! And I've recently been very torn about buying an Evo 200 - suspect the Beta would save me a few marks but will cost me more time (maintaining) and money (incl. parts and depreciation). On full bore across trails or whatever, the sound of the Montesa is unbeatable. And at 1800 RPM on tickover, it's rare that you'll stall in a section. The only big grumble is how to ride in mud but plenty of advice in other parts of this forum (old school throttle control, etc) and your'e in God's Own so not too much mud! A good shout would be to pop across to Inch Perfect and spend a day on one - that will swing it either way.
  24. Agree - try lots! But I love my 4RT - always starts first kick, superb build quality and great fun to ride. It may be a bit heavier than other bikes but I've really enjoyed mine and will get another one just as soon as the 2020 update (if there is going to be one) is announced.
