I had the Ossa MAR, Montesa 123, Bultaco 250 and my favourite of all time the Bultaco 325 which met all my requirements at the time. I also had the Yamaha TY250 A & B but they are not Spanish.

I came back to Trials 4 years ago after 40 years away. The last 3 years my knees and shoulders have continued to deteriorate along with arthritic hands. How long I can contunue, I don't know. But teaching my Daughter and Grandaughter helps to keep me going. I am in my 76th year. I also sometimes observe, having observed at the 2017 and 2018 UK World Trials and the Ladies & Girls Nationals plus the local trials.

I agree. I have had 2 300RRs and tested a new 4rt. Being so used to the 300 and it's smooth riding, when I tested the 4rt it stopped DEAD and I fell off.

I agree. I used to be on the Committee of the Richmond Club so all around Yorkshire was my venues back in the 70s. I rode against the same people along with Dave Thorpe, Alan Lampkin, Mick Andrews, Rob Edwards, Rob Shepherd, Mick Wilkonson, the starting of the Richardson Family and many other top riders. As you say, to ride the same sections as all the top boys in National and local trials was great to finish and say that was a GOOD days Trial.

No. Back in the 70s I had Ossa, Yamaha TY250A & B, Montesa 123, Bultaco 250 and 2 x Bultaco 350 (My favourites). Since I started 4 years ago, I have had a 2013 Gas Gas 250, 2013 Jotagas 300, 2016 Sherco 300, and a 2017 Sherco Factory 300.WHY? I seized the 2016 Sherco 300 and the 2017 Sherco Factory 300. My son kept insisting I would NOT seize up a Honda motor. So far I have not and had several situations where I would have done a 2 stroke. I did at first miss the fast action throttles I always had on the 2 strokes with the instant lift over obstacles. Having now had the 4 stroke since December last year, I have been learning the different technique to utilise what the power characteristics are. However, being in my 76th year, it takes time.
By the way, I almost bought a Vertigo Ice Hell 2 years ago after a test at Cloburn. I liked the balance and at the highest setting on the 300. Unfortunately, they didn't have any second hand ones at the time, so I bought the 2017 Sherco Factory 300.

Montesa Honda 300RR - It's the easiest bike I have had the pleasure of starting and not seizing it up when it gets dropped like the 2016 Sherco 300T and the 2017 Sherco Factory 300T:-

The 48 volt battery is actually more when fully charged. It requires to charge to 57.6 to 58.8 to be fully charged.
-
I am 75+ and competing for the 4th year.

I started my wife on a 2000 Gas Gas 280, then a 2008 Sherco 125, 2017 Oset 24R (after her new knee op), 2016 Sherco 300 and now a 2018 Sherco 125f with electric start. Here is a video of her riding my MH 300RR at the age of 68:-

I have it on GOOD authority, that the Montesa Honda 4rt in all it's variations have all been produced THIS year and have just been released as 2018 models.
Normally they would release them as 2019 models. Honda UK have just bought and imported them. Even the 50th Cota Anniversary model was built at the same time.
Montesa Honda in Spain build in batches of the different models and obviously want to export as many as they can.
Why they would call the latest models 2018 in the UK I have no idea.

Back in the day when we were racing Sidecars with Yamaha 700 & 750 4 cylinder 2 stroke motors we used to Nicasil when doing a re-bore after seizure.
The problem was, you had to bed the motor in for 200 miles or so by which time the pistons needed replacing. if not, the motor would seize again.
The BEST motor we had, was a 750 that was made up from 2 Nicasil motors that had each seized up one barrel. The motor was very fast.
Just a note. The 700 was made up of 2 x 350 twin motors married on the common 750 4 cylinder crank.

Depends how good his right hand is? I'm 75 this year and in my 3rd year of riding. I have always preferred 300s. Jotagas, Gas Gas Raga and 2 Sherco 300s, the last one a 2017 Factory.
-
No jossysouter. I have ridden it twice at 72 & 73 years old riding a Sherco 300. Friend Allan Richardson has ridden it for YEARS and varies between an old Greeves and a more modern bike. He is now 60 years old.

For 2019 there is the Richmond Club Blue Bar 2 day trial sometime in May. There are 2 big laps of 20/22 sections on Saturday and similar on Sunday. Camping from Friday and Burger bar there. There is usually some entertainment on Saturday night.
Old Bikes, New Bikes, young or OLD, they all ride the SAME sections.

I'm sorry, but I just have to laugh when I see questions and answers like this. How long is a piece of string as they say? I came back to Trials after not having ridden any kind of bike for 40 years. 3 years ago, I bought a 2000 Gas Gas 280 for the wife to learn to ride. I took turns with her until I bought a 2013 Jotagas 300. She has had a new knee fitted last September and is currently riding my old 2016 Sherco st300 while I have been riding a 2017 Sherco st300 Factory. She is 68 this year and later this year I will be 75. By the way. We BOTH use fast action throttles.
