  1. Even with only 8 sections some trials struggle to get the required observers and each rider must take a turn marking. Some get away with NOT doing it. Not nice, but we hope they don't feel too good for getting away with it. Perhaps they should be banned?
  2. I don't see the problem? There are THREE adjustment knobs that go all the way from virtually nothing to the max power required. SPEED - POWER - RESPONSE are the 3 knobs
  3. I came back to Trials riding 3 years ago after being away from bikes all together for over 40 years. I bought the wife a 2000 Gas Gas txt 280 before I bought myself a 2013 Jotagas 300. I then bought myself a 2009 Gas Gas Raga 300, followed by a 2016 Sherco 300 and then a 2017 Sherco 300 factory. They ALL have fast action throttles and now while I am riding my 2017, my wife is riding the 2016. I love the quick response and small amount of throttle my 74 year old arthritic hands/fingers require to clear an obstacle.
  4. I have some bottled FRESH AIR that can be injected directly into the Carb for improved fuel mixture.
  5. The best way is to join or visit a local club. Most usually have a category for new starters. Here is the ACU Directory of Centres with each centre having a list of clubs in that area. https://www.acu.org.uk/Centres-Clubs/
  6. I might be biased. I started off in 1972 with an OSSA MAR 250, Yamaha 250 MAR Mk1 & 2. Montesa 123, Bultaco 250 then finally Bultaco 350 in 1975 and in 1976 another Bultaco 350. The Bultaco 350 did all that I had ever wanted in a bike apart from I always felt like I wanted a fast action throttle. I was just progressing to the stage where I was winning my group and perhaps on the upward ladder when I packed in to go Sidecar racing with my brother. 40 years later after not having ridden a bike of any kind, my son bought a 2006 Sherco 290 for me to ride around with him. I bought the 2000 Gas Gas 280 for the wife and myself, then her a Sherco 125 and myself a 2013 Gas Gas 250. Then myself a 2013 Jotagas 300, a 2016 Sherco 300 and finally a 2017 Sherco 300 Factory. They ALL have fast action throttles and I absolutely love the response of the motors. I am 74 this year, no expert, but I KNOW what I like and I will never change. At my age a small twist of the wrist is better than a BIG hand full of throttle to clear an obstacle.
  7. The wife is 5ft 2inches tall and 54kgs. She first rode a trials bike 2 years ago a 2000 Gas Gas Txt Pro 280 a the age of 65. This is her second ride. We didn't even have the correct riding gear at the time:-
  8. This General Manual might help. It has a wiring diagram at the back General-manual2.pdf
  9. It's the same with twin shocks especially Honda TL125, TLR, RTL, Bultaco, Montesa, Yamaha. They have gone up over a £1000 in a year and some twice that. Even the mediocre ones are being asked stupid amounts of money based on the rarity value of Merlin, Mecatecno etc.
  10. Are they not fitted as standard? When I tested the 2017 4t & 2t at Inch Perfect, John Lampkin said they were fitted to help find grip.
  11. I bought the Oset 24.0R for the wife as she struggles with her bad knee to kick start a bike. Oset were wanting £820 plus p&p for the Original 20ah Lipo. I contacted BOOST BIKES and they qouted me £725 + £25 p&p for a 25ah Lipo. You can buy a bike for that, but £525 is certainly a better buy.
  12. Fajardo was the best on our Section 13 at the UK TONG Trial. Brilliant rider, thought he would have finished higher than he did. Toni Bou lost more points on our section than any other. A 3 and a 5.
  13. I was Observer assistant at the UK round and had no problems, though only 1 Minder thanked me, that was Toby Martyn's Minder.
  14. The sticking clutch is a common problem especially with one that has been stood awhile. One Sherco 125 we got for my wife had the problem which when warmed up gradually get better. I used to start it up, jump on, then kick it into gear while holding the front and rear brakes on it would eventually free up. AN oil change may help if it has been stood for a time. The discs get sticky and this is what causes the drag.
  15. The Oset 24.0R is the same size as the Beta 80 mid wheel and has about the same power which can be adjusted in 3 different ways. 1. Speed 2. Power 3. Throttle response. The only difference to riding one as against the Beta is the clutch lever on the Beta is a rear brake on the Oset, so no rear foot brake.

  17. Would any of you like to observe the British Round of the World Championship due to be held at Tong, Bradford, West Yorkshire on the 8th & 9th July? Organisers are in need of Observers and Marshals Observers are paid £50 each Marshals - £30 each You will also get one free ticket for Saturday and Sunday to give away 4 people per section required 1 observer and 3 marshals For more info please contact Jason Dunning.( jason@commercialdoorandgate. co.uk ) They still require 6 observers and about 20 Marshalls.
  18. Old duffer at NEARLY 50? I wonder what that makes me in my 74th year and coming back 2 years ago.having been away for 40 years?
  19. I went to the Beta, Gas Gas & EM test with John Lampkin & John Shirt jnr at Inch Perfect. The Scorpa was with Nigel Birkett & Andy Metcalfe at Low North Park Scarborough Trials area for the Scorpa test and at Cloburn with Nick from Vertigo on the Ice Hell. The Jotagas I bought in Spain because I had read good reports about it. The only complaint I have of the Jotagas is the gear change shaft has snapped twice due to hitting rocks. The later models had an upgrade for this. The importer is Vince at Haven Trialsport at Laceby. The latest models are not the same. Not tested the TRS or the Montesa/Honda yet.
  20. As they say, each to their own. I came back to Trials just over 2 years ago after 40 years off bikes all together. My son bought a Sherco 290 for me to try out and it was a steep learning curve on a modern bike after the 70s bikes. I bought a 2013 Jotagas 300 and loved it (still got it), then a 2009 Gas Gas Raga 300 which I also loved, but it had been stood for 2 years and eventually had loads of problems. I then bought a 2016 Sherco 300 which took a little while (3 sections) to get used to the snappy throttle response and then I was hooked. Love it. ALL my bikes have fast action throttles. It's what I always wanted back in the 70s. As mentioned earlier, each to their own. Tom Minta rode a 125 in the SSDT and look where he finished. Emma Bristow rides a Sherco 300. BTW. I am 74 this year. I have tested the 2017 Beta 4t & 300 2t. Love the build quality but missed the snappy throttle response. Tested the 2017 Gas Gas 300 and found it rode like an old worn out bike but good response from the throttle. Tested the 2017 Scorpa 300 and found it to be the same as my Sherco but with better access to the Spark Plug. One thing I don't like on my Sherco is getting the Plug cap back on, not enough clearance to the tank, Tested the Vertigo Ice Hell 250 & 300. Love the balance of both but found the 250 lacking power as did the 300 when on Mode 1 setting. But on Mode 4 it comes alive to what I like & need with my arthritic hands. Your choice. Forgot to mention. The Raga & the Ice Hell comes with MUCH better suspension. You can tell the difference in the way it feels.

  22. I returned to Trials last year after 30 years away. My last bike being an ex-works Comerfords Bultaco 350. My first bike back was a 2007 Sherco 290 followed by a 2008 Scorpa 250 (flat as the proverbial) a 2013 GG 250, a 2013 Jotagas 300 (loved it but keeps breaking the gear selector shaft), a 2009 GG 300 Raga (loved it but needed too much doing to it) and finally a 2016 Sherco 300 which I absolutely love. Some buy a 300 and then put a slow throttle on and a flywheel weight to calm things down. Myself, It took one easy trial to bed myself in to the throttle response and it is now perfect for me. BTW, I am 73 this year.
