  1. video wont make any difference, there was video of Bou restarting his bike at Penrith a few years ago in a no stop trial but the score wasn't changed
  2. Dunlop fitted at the practice session this morning
  3. Been running them all year but I'll still check tomorrow ?
  4. Some had Betors, similar to the Betors fitted to my twinshock Beta TR240. One of Birketts early 200s did but not sure if they were on production bikes?
  5. A new spring will be quite cheap and easy to fit. You just need to take the inspection cover off , just four bolts not the whole clutch cover, then remove all of the 7mm head small bolts. The beville spring is under the pressure plate. If that doesn't work then either reduce the thickness of one of plates or by 3 new fibre ones. With the correct spring and the clutch pack measuring 9.85mm it should be light enough for you.
  6. No trials bike has a dual mass flywheel. My understanding of the function of a dual mass flywheel is to dampen the effect of the firing sequence on powerful multi cylinder engines. Family cars can now be 120 - 200bhp so more than a cortina which didn't have a dual mass ? The comparison is interesting though in that whilst the dual mass does fail it's coping with a diffent level of power to an older engine. It would be reasonable to compare the effects on a modern engine of fitting a solid flywheel and seeing what happens, what problem were the engineers trying to solve ? Back to trials bikes I started riding in the Bultaco era, when you got told off for touching the clutch in a section at the trials school. Yes you can set one up to work ok but it's a fine line between dragging and slipping. Power output, section design etc have all changed but if you ride twinshock events then it doesn't really matter. When it works the diaphragm clutch is good. The nearest to the Bultaco clutch still being produced is in the 4rt and Beta. Go and have a read of their issues. In terms of adjustment you can adjust the pack height to get faster / slower action which also effects the clutch pull. For the gas gas you can get different thickness steel plates. Once you are happy that the clutch suits you as long as you stick to the same oil it will not need to be adjusted again. Oil is important as some oils react with the clutch fibres.
  7. Rather than change bikes you could go down the 250 barrel route which is expensive but cheaper than changing bike if the rest of the bike is good. You can always re fit the 300 cylinder later if you improve sufficiently.
  8. With careful assembly and careful attention to the pack height a diaphragm hydraulic clutch is significantly better than a Bultaco clutch and can be operated with one finger. The Bultaco was a great bike in its day, that day was nearly 40 years ago.
  9. I've heard the main bearings story many times and still don't agree, it's probably the same gas gas person. I fitted flywheel weights to my 280s. One bike did the ssdt with one fitted and was then ridden every week until the following years ssdt without any main bearing issue. Only main bearing failure on a gas gas bikes I have experienced were both on bikes I bought second hand so you never really know the history.
  10. that's got Betor forks , the last Italjets had Marzocchi didn't they ?
  11. It's underneath behind the spindle right side fork leg
  12. Number 3 slide but still use original needle.

    airbox

I had a 303 fantic years ago with the air intake on the side, riding upstream it was very easy to get water in the box. So I blanked the holes off and drilled two holes the same size in the top of the box. It was terrible, big flatspot and a lot less torque. I then cut the tubes or trumpets off the original holes on the inside of the box and glued them onto the new holes. This made a huge difference. So those tubes act as a baffle or restrictor and taking them off made the bike worse not better. On the original design when the side cover was fitted the other end of the tube was very close to the other side of the filter box. I got the same effect by glueing the tubes at an angle so they were close to the back panel of the box. On this basis I don't agree that more air is always better on a trials bike, it certainly wasn't in this case. People were making larger air filter boxes for air cooled Yams but they needed re jetting to run properly. So it may be more complicated than just making the box bigger. Finally Nigel Birkett used to reduce the air Intake on the Tyz with duct tape which made them easier to ride. So I think you need to try one first, it's by no means guaranteed to be better because it's bigger.
  14. @haysy and there is camping at the start
  15. I've got to a trial and noticed compression was lower than last week. Turns out the spark plug was still on the bench in the garage.
  16. Would have liked to have gone, sections looked good
  17. I'm not really sure what he means ? Are you saying take all the sag out of the shock and then wind the spring down another 10mm ?
  18. Having watched Chris ride the Em in British Championships ,and I think he's been on the podium in the expert class , there's no doubting the bikes are capable
  19. I'd always set my rear suspension up with sag previously but you don't need to do this with the Reiger shock on the RR. Out of the box they don't have sag, neither does the vertigo with the same shock. It doesn't top out like you would expect and provides greater lift. I presume something is different in terms of damping compared to other shocks I have used. Its very good, if you need a heavier spring for your weight they are available.
  20. Anyone seen the video tour of Casales Vertigo. They have tiny in line radiators in the hoses, Dougie calls them an intercooler. Just a thought to make bikes more suitable for the longer trials could the FIM specify a minimum coolant capacity ? Much more useful than a minimum weight as it should aid reliability?
  21. Aren't some production bikes coming with Dunlop now as well? Still Michelin for me ?
  22. I did here someone at a trial saying that either taking the lanyard off or leaving it on was draining the battery. Try leaving it on and see what happens
  23. Fajardo seems to be rejuvenated this year. As ever its difficult to determine what actually is happening. Is fajardo riding that much better or are Fujinami and Raga just riding worse due to injuries before the season started ? Cabestany also has hit a bit of form compared to last year. It's not dull and I think the qualifying helps. Being able to watch it live is great.

    241 fork oil

Hi Can anyone remember how much fork oil goes in a 241 Fantic? Thanks
