Two things stand out reading this thread
1 We should have a single set of rules
I think, and i dont mind being corrected, that
under the old no stop rules the sump on a rock with the engine stalled has to be a five as regardless of the stall the bike will have stopped. Generally the stall was deemed as a five as the bike would stop.
Under old stop allowed rules it actually isnt a five. In those days there was one set of rules for all events and heres two examples I can remember. Woody Hole during the ssdt one year had the chain come off. The bike was wedged / balanced anyway and he managed to refit the chain without touching the ground and rode off, he didnt get a five. Other examples of repairs include Donato Miglio refitting the throttle cable which had come out of the domino twistgrip housing during a world round, again it wasnt a five. Both examples are ludicrous in my view, but balancing on a rock with the sump wasnt a five as far as I know.
under the FIM every stop is a one rules a stall is a five, the rules also mention taking your hand off the handlebar is a five.
The problem with all this is that riders and observers probably don t read the rules so just as Ive done here examples of good and bad observing get interpreted as being the rules. Now at this hypothetical club trial we are discussing what set of rules are being applied ??
2 Observers and riders need to accept that both parties can make an error, we cannot all be right all of the time. Riders also need to be aware that however difficult the observer may seem to you he / she is still the observer. No Observer No Trials ! As Eiger implied observers need to be treated with respect.

Yes I realise that BUT
local authorities in our neck of the woods are having problems with kids on mini motos flying around any open space they can find. Warden Law is a good example of a facility that works for the local authority (as it gives the kids somewhere to ride) and the motorcycle community. Why not try to get planning permission on that basis ? or on the non permanent basis, even if it was only used once a month it would be worth it.
Guisborough club have a legitimate practice facility I believe, and theres a quad track with some trial sections near Sedgefield. But North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland have nothing that I'm aware of.
Instead of typing on here I'll try somthing with the NE ACU / clubs and maybe contact a council planner I happen to know from some advice

Are planning on joining me at NASA like Kirk ?
talk to Martin Phillipson, he should know a thing or two about Betas
-
would it be different if she rode a Beta CK ?
come on montesa won indoor and outdoor in the mens !
-
how about making it quiet
-
Hi Gordon
do Derwentside council actually own castleside ?
It irks me that our centre hasnt the funds to buy or lease the place or somewhere similar. We (me included) dont seem to have learned anything since the last outbreak of F&M and consequently may be spending this winter in Buttsfield !

The problem is the bearing Ham not the crankcase. New sherco's come with sealed bearings now so the oil gallery mod is now redundant really
spend and extra
-
Do not set fire to an ally exhaust, it will melt !
-
I think that engine was designed for the TYZ specifically but i'm told it wasnt
anybody know ?
-
John Holland rode one and seemed to do ok with it, i never passed him on the moors !
-
and people think I'm pessimistic, you lot are unreal !
-
it will if its been overfilled, where was the breather ?
-
Take the flywheel off and check that the crank seal hasnt gone on the ignition side, this make the engine "race " a little when its slowing down, it would normally run weak as well
-
I'm not really a fourstroke fan as in the UK they are between
-
Are the skid plates made in china ?
another quality trials motorcycle component, still its not as though a 4rt is expensive !!

John
where did you get Steve Wilson bike from ?
my dad had a bike just like you describe for a while . It was a 325 with chrome frame, box section swinging arm, tank under the seat and it a few neat touches such as a longer kick start shaft so the pedal didnt catch the frame by the footrest. It was also fitted with an amal rather than bing carb and was finished with black and white plastics.
just wondering if its the same bike as I dont know how many were made
-
I from tyneside
me have a question
why do people buy flat tanks ?
why not just half fill the standard tank and spend
-
Cope
how does the price of a sherco compare to a GG or Mont in your part of the world ?
-
Yes mine does that especially after its kicked back
-
so a C4 has more clearence than a C3 and more again than a C2 ?
-
I had a TY done years ago, you need some proper engineering kit though and to be honest I dont think it made that much difference as I remember. You need to machine some of the fins off the back off the barrel to get in and I think it was shortened by 15mm but you had better check. Try and see if you can calculate the space between the end of the reeds and the back of the cylinder. What you need to do is take that space out so that the reeds are as close to the cylinder as possible. To be honest I 'd get the barrel ported by birkett if I was you and I think you will notice much more of a difference.

Just to keep us going
Justin did you ever take the flywheel off your bike and see if the two map ignition can be retarded by moving the stator or is it fixed ?
anybody know what the reference c4 means on the end of a bearing number, the sherco mains are c4s, i think C3 has more bearings which are smaller than standard but I dont know what C4 is ?
cheers

Only if you admit how that photo is done with you looking like your balancing a bike.........
-
I didnt ride particularly well but I thought the sections were excellent on the hard route, everything took a bit of riding to get a clean and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
thanks to James Harland and Carl Shaw who I believe set it out yesterday, and thanks to anyone else who was involved.
Regards
Baldilocks, the oldest rider excluding papa Phillipson !!

Copemech / Addict
I heard today that the Boyesens can break after a while , have you had any problems and how often do you change them ? to be fair this was from I guy that used to do moto cross and I think it was on a motocross bike not a trials bike.
