ordered the new Boyesen reeds today, do I still need to fit the reed stops ? thought I read you could take them out but I don't feel comfortable doing that for some reason
-
try warming the rear of the crankcase gently with a hot air gun and the swinging arm be careful though as a little heat will give some expansion and thats all you should need
-
i may regret this but whats LMAO stand for ?
ring lampkins for clutch plates but they come as a set
try either the Trial company or john lampkin imports in Google
-
I'm buggered if I can get the crank seals in now though. I've been trying from inside the crank case though.
I'm not buying this anymore Glyph, your either an extremely gifted comedian or this is a wind up !
The last bloke to try to fit crank seals from the inside was the DIY guy on Kenny Everett !!
the clutch basket nut needs to be tight but theres a lock washer anyway, the primary gear i'd use a windy gun.
-
cant comment on price, RHW can John if you know him, if not PM me and I'll give you his mobile. Ohlins is certainly as good but its the reliability that made me get one and its been spot on.
-
think the rtl is also a 260
-
CK is gonna love that Perce
-
PM me addict and I'll give you the mobile of a guy who'll get you an ohlins, he can also service them if it aver needs it. My Ohlins has been on since the bike was two weeks old, no problems so far. fully adjustable damping only snag is the screw is behind the filter box.
cheers

What do you expect from an irishman ?
I've told Andy before that CK isnt a geordie, perhaps we can set autocorrect to change Geordie to smoggie, teesider or yorkshireman whenever cota kid is in the same paragraph?
honestly since the invention of sat nav people are useless at geography !!!
ps CK talks like a geordie ??? last time I spoke to CK we needed an interpretor.
how come Andy never says Dougies from Lancashire ? hey its only the next county after all !

The crank will be a tight fit into the bearing so it will take a little force to remove it.
I take it your going to replace the seals as well as the bearings ?
if so you will need to remove the clutch so you can get the primary gear and weight off to fit the seal. As you have removed the barrel etc already you will have very little resistance to stop the clutch basket turning so you will need a compressor to remove the clutch centre nut. DO NOT attempt to hold the clutch basket, they break very easily and are rather expensive to fix.
have fun

Your losing grip with the front tyre because its going light as you go up the hill. As Scorpa says lean a bit further back and the front wheel will float round the corner, its almost doing it now thats why its sliding. The other approach is to get the bike straight before you set off up the hill as its easier to turn on the flat.
-
The piston will wear eventually whatever maintenance you do.
However I clean and re oil the filter every time I ride the bike as dust / dirt getting between the piston and bore will make it wear faster. Also I run 80ml of Motul or Rock Oil to 5 litres, thats 320ML to 20 litres. THe bike doesn't smoke particularly and although others probably run less oil I can t see a bit more doing any harm.

Addict / copemech
what to the Boyseen reeds actually change about the power delivery ?
I loaned a keihin for the weekend off a mates Gas Gas but I can t fit it as the air filter rubber wont reach the back of the carb and I think I need to bend the cable housing on the top of the carb to route the throttle cable either under or over the head steady. I dont want to bend someone elses carb so I was thinking of changing reeds first.
cheers
Baldilocks
might get us to 8 pages with all the spaces !
-
Can I fit a keihin with the standard inlet manifold rubber, thought I could warm it up to get it to stretch a little ?
-
Yes Copemech I compared them but only by sight I never measured them, they looked very similar.
I 'm concerned that if I can't retard the timing on the 08 it will be too much, which is why I want to know if the stator can be adjusted. ?
do you know ?
-
I'll take that bait Copemech
this is my first sherco, an 07 290, I got it in February and I did the SSDT on it, it never missed a beat and i'll be having another one as things stand.
Things I have done to mine are
fitted Ohlins shock, doesnt feel that much different but its more reliable and can be serviced.
Never touched the forks and the shock sag is set the same as the original shock was.
Fitted Renthal Fat bars as I always prefer renthal bars
Found the power very smooth at first but once it was run in found the engine had a power band just above 1/4 throttle. This meant lots of wheelspin and lots of fives. I retarded ign timing and made the carb one notch richer on the needle, this helped a lot and the bike now grips really well. Downside is it doesnt have as much top end now so i'm going to try a keihin next. Is it possible to retard timing on the two map ignition ? do you know addict ?
Fitted raptor pegs, dont like the standard ones as they wear out quite quickly and your feet fell like they will slip off in the mud.
Sherco could improve the seal between the silencer and the air filter and my front mudgaurd now gets caught in the exhaust when the forks bottom out, thats my only complaints really.
Fitted DP brake pads, brakes much better.
-
I'd like to see those new forks next to a set of last years paiolis they look identical to me apart from the decals
-
I did somthing similar years ago on a fast track, the guy i collided with broke his leg and i ended up with my head between the back wheel and the rear mudguard of an air cooled yam, the yam was still ticking over, probably in top but luckily I was knocked out and dont actually remember it. I still have the scar off the silencer bracket which split my top lip.
Needless to say this brought a premature end to what had been a lucrative modelling career.
take your time stump magnet, you will think your fine then you'll have a minor wobble........
-
Manx 2 Day are you related to Kinell ?
reeth isnt in the west of england !!
-
Erm James Dabill winner of ssdt 07 and currently 7th in WTC ? So why does dougie have to retire from wtc to compete in the ssdt ?
perhaps its the last English round though as there is no English round in 2008 .
-
Put the bike on a stand and ask a friend (the biggest friend you have preferably) to sit on the bike, this will compress the sump gaurd into line, well thats what I did.
-
Hi Martin
its supposed to work like an expansion chamber but give increased back pressure I think, the Honda TLM 50 had one as did the JCM 243. We were having trouble getting the JCM to run right so removed it as an experiment and it didnt make much difference as far as we could tell.
Shame to spoil an SWM with it I think you will agree.
Is that the right silencer ? I thought from memory only the Jumbo had a single exit from the silencer ?
-
I think there is only John Sunter riding a 4rt in the experts class.
-
For my money why buy a fourstroke ?
enviromental issues ? - cobblers !! what they save on emmissions they cost in terms of noise and when they get a bit older four strokes will burn oil . Fuel injected two stroke is the answer to the environmental issue.
Cheaper ? cobblers again, Beta , Sherco, and Scorpa produce a two stroke for between
-
engine oil you can use Motul transoil 10w30, Silkolene light gear oil or Rock oil GRO
ATF can be used but its a bit thin
