different question but how is an american eligible for the european championship ? Has Europe expanded ?
-
I think the works bikes get down to much lower weights by removing gears that arent used in a section, like 5th and 6th on a Beta, much smaller petrol tanks (like the flat 4rt one or Ragas GG which has the base of the standard tank removed) and titanium bolts and various other bits.

to the artist formerly known as beta rev 3!
front brake problem, are still running original pads ?
they are ok in the dry but dont work very well in the wet. I've found either goldfren or DP pads make the brake much better in all conditions.
see you at reeth no doubt
-
Totally agree CK
Went to Italian round in 2005 when it was a two day job. Absolutely brilliant weekend.
went to Spa last year, not quite as good but still well worth going
just booked the flights last week for Andorra this year, cant wait
-
as standard they pass the acu test at a relatively low rpm.
the trouble is even with the restictors in they are loud when revved and because of the sound frequency the noise travels a lot further
reduced emmissions but as Rosey sais whats the point if you lose the land due to the noise ??
try again I think
-
Tends to happen when bike stops and you dont expect it to, say riding up a river and dropping the front wheel in a hole or not making it up a step. Bars are forward but being six foot is probably part of the problem.
and of course pilot error......
-
xxx are you just taking the mick or what ?
no trials bike will last 4 years without some expenditure if your going to ride every week.
A car cant do that and it doesnt even leave the tarmac....
Scorpas and Monts will last longer but they are also slightly heavier. Your choice really but I think your expectations may be unrealistic ,especially if your going to crash a lot.
-
copemech i have grown tired of cracking my knees on the master cylinders where the hydraulic lines bolt on under the bars.
i'm going to fit gas gas master cylinders and get some hoses made to suit.
anyone else done this ?
-
Before you re assemble it check the clearence on the piston skirt with the piston level with the base of the liner. It should be between 1 and 2 thou. If its 3 or more send it back as it will be rattling in no time, 3 to 4 thou is the wear limit. If you run your new piston in a barrel thats too big you may damage the new piston.
-
New 4rt will apparently come with mirrors and indicators like other trail bikes....
and a tow bar in case your van breaks down on the way to the trial....
I'm off to hide now
-
A shame yes but if it is true you can hardly blame them.
Just had a look at the scores on the FIM website
the guy who finished 10th only actually got out of 7 sections all day, he had 23 5's out of 30 sections !
Shaun and Taddy are normally around 8th - 12th and in their shoes I wouldnt drive to france to have 23 5's , perhaps the wtc will have to look at section severity.
-
Never heard Jamies interview , were they recorded ? I had a look on the nevis radio website but couldnt see anything

Hi Folks
Somebody left a rather expensive component which looks like it belongs on a 4RT leaning against our van in the car park on friday night. I asked Sandifords but nobody had mentioned loosing this item. PM me if its yours
Ive put this on the SSDT site as well
Cheers
-
Tried this once and it worked
make sure the master cylinder entry point for the hose is the highest point in the hose route you may need to drop the caliper a little, turn your bars to the left as well. Pump the lever till you get some pressure in the system then zip tie the lever to the handlebar so it can t return.
leave it over night
in the morning it should work fine, if it does send a PM to Racey and say thanks as he told me and it worked when i did it.
still dont know why though......
-
well thats something i never thought I'd see
Kinell answering a geography question
still I suppose he could be wrong yet ?
good luck in the ssdt mate, see you there
-
HL do you really think these folk are injured ?
or have they seen the forecast for Monday and Tuesday ?
Ive took the sun cream back out of my bag and bought a snorkel and flippers.......
-
Dougs been stretchered off a number of times even with multiple minders but how do you retain difficulty but have safer sections ?
-
Yes I'm panicking in case it does
-
183 getting nervous already
-
I also ride in the NE centre and find it frustrating that we use the same colour flags for left and right for two out of the three courses. At the recent Consett trial on Good Friday one observer asked me to ride the section again as i had not used the same route as other riders and she was going to go with the majority. At a different section we all rode it incorrectly the first lap and were then advised of the correct route on the second lap. This isn't the first time this has happened.
I dont think its necessary for the CoC to travel round before hand advising the observers, the CoC puts enough time in the day before the trial without having to do another job on the day of the event. Surely as a centre we can agree on six colours for flags and then stick to them ?
I propose Yellow / White for Expert, Red / Blue for Clubman and Pink / Purple for the easy route.
any comments ?
Before anybody jumps in most of you in the NE will know I have marked out many trials in my time
-
perhaps not for much longer
when the ssdt finishes and the results are out we 'll all have nowhere to hide !!
-
Kinell
Beta have already made the centre of gravity higher you know
are you lot moving the footpegs forward to compensate for the additional weight at the back ?
-
The ignition timing is too far advanced, see Sherco website for how to retard it.
-
i'm 85 ml of oil to five litre of petrol
-
Ive recently acquired a 290 and first couple of trials it was great but then i found once it was run in I started to spin it a lot. At the Jack wood I was doing doughnuts all day and getting more annoyed as the day went on.
My last bike was a 300 GG with a kehin carb and initially I thought the sherco was less powerful but I'm not sure now that it is. My view is if your coming off a GG the power of the Sherco is much smoother in its delivery and you dont realise how much power your trying to put down, hence the wheelspin. I think the sherco gives a little less "feedback" than the GG so you need to adjust to that first.
I've done a couple of things to mine now which have made it easier to ride and are a bit simpler than fitting base gaskets.
First of all increase the pilot jet by one size from 33 to 34 (from memory) and lift the needle one notch so that the clip is in the bottom groove.
then retard the ignition timing a touch, i only moved mine the width of the mark on the stator.
if you dont like it you can reverse all of the above, a pilot jet is about
