  1. Ishy whats this meant to be ? looks like the same info as on the SSDT site and the article on TC. BUT to get the topic going... we used to go to Lagnaha via a different route involving some forest track and a short bit of moor. There was a group of sections included on loose rocks in a narrow gulley. Nowadays we go in on the road from ballaculish (spelling anyone ?) and come back out the same way. I wonder if we'll go in via the forest again ?
  2. They deserve to be, the TY mono was the biggest change in trials design since a certain Mr Miller went to Bultaco
  3. Scorpa 3 what will your daughter receive if she cleans and refits the carb while shes on ?
  4. They look fantastic, I'm a bit to old but junior is only 6 months so give it a couple of years ..... Kinell how did you get it past Mrs Kinell ?
  5. Either the 240 Beta twinshock i had as a schoolboy or the TYZ i rode twice in the scottish. Both bikes were exceptionally reliable and made me look a better rider than I actually was. Well what more do you want from a bike
  6. Hi Vaughan I once broke the fins off a Fantic 300 barrel ( confidence v lack of ability ) but a guy I knew managaed to recontrruct out of aluminium weld for me. It took lots of filing but you could hardly tell in the finish. You could try that with the barrel
  7. What a cracking idea, makes sense too Credit where its due, I believe Paul Battensby or Ian Marshall, both from Bedlington club told me about it first. Timp, good point but have you seen the write up the Dunlop got in YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE ? I thought they weren't quite as good as a Michelin but they're not that bad are they ? Team Beta UK seem to manage ok as does Team Scorpa
  8. was it the shock or the linkage that broke on cabestanys bike ?
  9. Carry some tyre soap as it weighs next to nothing anyway and you'll need a few cartridges not just one. the other thing which works, and i didnt believe it till I saw it, was to get about 40 PSI in the tyre then refit and elevate the rear wheel. Put the bike in top gear and with the wheel off the ground rev the engine, the centrifugal force then pops the tyre on the rim. be careful though, when my mate did this the engine had gone cold while we were trying to get the tyre on, and with no load on the engine it really does rev, so the engine seized about a second after the tyre popped. which meant we were still stuck.
  10. anyone else think this was going to be about some new footrests
  11. The Lagnaha story is in T & MX this week along with some info on routes. The story is referenced to Mark Whitham, it says it looks certain to be back
  12. Ive got a new shape combi. you can get two bikes in and all the kit, do it most weekends. The front wheel of one needs to come between the front seats a little but its no hardship. We managed to get three bikes in a berlingo van for the ssdt last year by taking the back wheel out of mine and the forks out of one of the others. if your only transporting one bike either van is fine. combi does between 45 and 50 to the gallon depending how late I am
  13. Thats a belting idea but how much are they ?
  14. Just a suggestion Andy but a lot of us will be at the ssdt so why not dish them out there for those attending ? could have a tc get together somewhere ?

    Beta 4-stroke

I saw a man today looking lost at addingham moorside, on a Rev 4t, could this be 'kin ell ? Then I saw the reg plate on the van and my suspicions were confirmed. bike looks just as good as in the photos mate
  16. so where does this leave Sheffield ?? Indoor trial , bikes getting revved frequently and we all breathe the fumes in ?
  17. Yes that was me, dressed as a north sea fisherman, but at least I was dry. we've only just got home
  18. I found it quite hard, as in I dropped 97 ! It was very muddy and the weather didnt help the organisers, might not have been as bad at the front but then the streams would have been more slippery so who knows ? I got up that horibble tree route thing after talking myself into an attempt, I thought it looked awful but Chris Pearson and John Sunter made it look so easy. Getting up that section made the journey worthwhile for me, and theres even a photo to prove it. A bit faster next year and I might clean the thing I think thats what I like most about trials, looking at somthing, being a little scared of it and then surprising myself by actually doing it. You dont get that feeling often in local trials and I think the nationals should have sections like that so that we can surprise ourselves a little. when we talk about severity perhaps we need to remember that if its too easy it becomes boring. I didnt have many cleans but I got through plenty of sections and enjoyed the day. thanks to the organisers. Gasser boy I think your on the photos as well, (I'm presuming your the guy who was riding round with Gary Jenkins ?)
  19. oi The Geographically Challenged One my wife might see that ! loose lips sink ships my friend, its
  20. worth every penny its the best trial in the world atomant !!
  21. Indoor raga for me Outdoor I'd really like to see Doug do it but I think Fuji based on his form over the last few rounds last year plus the Mont will be an improvement based on what others have said after Sheffield. Injuries permitting of course.
  22. I think we all have different methods so why not tell people what you do with this problem and then let the person who posted the question decide which method to use ? Personally I havent been able to get hold of sikaflex. I always take the tape off and put instant gasket on every spoke nipple. Then refit the tape and put more instant gasket around the valve hole before refitting the valve. Get the spoke tension right before you start as once they are right I dont find i need to adjust them that often. Getting the tape back on is a bit of a chore but I always manage and I'm no mechanic, i just force it under the lip with my finger ends. Once its done it will last about six months in my experience. I think the Mont rim is better but my mates Mont is only six months old and he's had the wheel rebuilt as he kept snapping the spokes. Solution for me would be Mont rim with the spoke nipple in the hub so you can use a conventional spoke. This design used to be popular but i dont know why its no longer in use ? happy new year
  23. Just an example and I'm not anti montesa , i'm giving thought to buying one for the ssdt. I was having breakfast one morning at last years ssdt in the West End Hotel. As I watched the bikes going up the achintore road out of Fort William the only one I could hear through the closed window was the 4rt. I dont doubt they pass the ACU test, its done just above tickover and the bike will have had the restrictors in. But wind the throttle up with the restrictors out and it is considerably louder than any other bike on the market. I dont think anyone disputes that ?
  24. Yes munch I agree but you can put all the restrictors in a bag after pdi on any bike without waking up the local village 2 miles away ....except a 4rt. The point I was making is why is it so loud when its supposedly more advanced than anything else ??? I'd leave testicles, cream crackers and boll ox out of it as I dont think its relevant
  25. I think from memory that the 200 is the only Beta with a steel liner, its actually a sleeved 250 barrel but this info comes from a TMX test of the first 200. I would suggest you ring lampkins not langcourt, your going to need a new piston either way from Lampkin so best get the facts first.
