montesa preplist is ok
dont forget montesa rider preplist, spend 6 monts in gym building up arms in case you drop it during the week and theres no one to help you pick it up.
Great on the road but so's a harley !
joking aside crankcase gaurd so the chain doesnt crack the crankcase and thats probably it
-
had one pair, had worn through to my socks where the boot rubs on the frame in 3 trials !
may be my style but rubbish for the money, I get a year out of most brands

:agree: cant beleive the might of Honda cant make that thing quiet.
I like this idea that the restrictors dont need to be removed, if thats true :
1) why make them removable ?
2) why does everyone seem to do it ?

connecting the terminals tests the fan motor works but doesnt test the thermstat which is a weakness. Take the bike up a fast track gently, dont cane the motor in case the stat has failed but 5 mins of moderate speed should get the fan going. if its starts pinking badly or spitting out coolant and the fan isnt working stop the bike, let it cool down and replace the stat when you get home.

I had two 250 rev 3's . neither would start when pointed downhill. I made it better by reducing the float height height but it wasnt perfect.
heres somthing to demonstrate why it happens.
take off the carb but leave the fuel line connected, let the bowl fill as normal. Hold the carb level and slowly tip it forward whilst looking in the front part of the carb which fastens to the reed block. keep it a safe distance from your face though as you'll see petrol come up through the pilot jet as you tip the carb forward. So I presume if you park it with the bike facing downhill petrol must run into the reedblock via the pilot jet, this then merrily floods your engine.
why doesnt this happen on a dellorto ?? lower fuel height in the bowl?? different design ?

good point
the HT lead on the Scorpa gets nipped between the barrel and the petrol tank, if its got hot previously this may have damaged the insulation. Check this and re route it anyway while your on, turn the coil the other way so that the HT lead comes out from the top, you will need to extend the single black lead from the CDI.

The guy on the friday section is Grant Morris, he 's a calm rational person before the trial, during the trial whilst chatting in a queue or walking the section and after the trial.
BUT when it goes wrong in a section you need to reach for the ear muffs !! He has GRUNTER on the back of his lid

The engine oil will tell you if the waterpump seal has gone but not the headgasket, its a two stroke remember. did the electric fan work ok ?
coolant can drop if you over fill them as you are supposed to leave a slight gap between coolant and the top of the rad to allow for expansion.
try a new plug cap andf check that the wiring hasnt been hitting the cylinder

Andy
there are some things I just cannot accept.
COTA KID is not a geordie, he seems a canny bloke when I met him recently but he's from Teeside.
Geordies are from Newcastle or more generally Tyneside and are known to say Whyaye, you got that bit right.
have a canny christmas hinney

Might be a good time for the 4T brigade to wake up. The 4RT is too bl**dy loud. Sure the emissons are reduced but the local church probably doesn't appreciate the bark of a 4RT on a sunday in quite the same way as Cota Kid (mentioned on another thread). Nothing against Cota Kid but noise is one of the issues the sport must address and its about time people stopped accepting that the 4rt is quiet at tickover as some sought of justification. If the bike produces less emissions but we lose the land due to the noise what exactly has been gained ?
The other manufacturers are bringing out four strokes as well but how many are easier to ride than the two stroke?
I still dont understand why the manufacturers / FIM dont focus on improving the emissions of the two stroke ?? and i really don t get why some of us are so keen to see the death of the two stroke at world or local level. Honda have always liked to have four strokes in trials (eddy lejeune, saunders etc) but i'm quite happy for Cabby and Raga to stay on the two strokes and for the rest of us to pay

Yes, My dad was importing them at the time so it wasnt an option really. the airfilter intake was by the coil under the tank so you had to be up to the filler cap to drown one. really handy feature that year !!!

The year they had to re route from the parc ferme was 1986, my first year, I still dont know yet why I went back again.
That was on the Saturday but the worst day was wednesday. I set off to Achallader Farm ( we went round Kinlochleven first) in my JPX riding gear (similar to Ellgren), I was wet through by the time I engaged top gear !! Nowadays we have goretex and its still freezing
It was somthing like 25 miles on the road. A lad called Roger Clark pulled into the NE Centre fuel check, when he stopped he was apparently so cold he couldnt move his legs so promptly fell over still sitting on the bike
The sections were just unreal you could hear the rocks rolling beneath the water and picking a line was impossible.
The year Rob Crawford jumped the river must of been 92 which was also very wet, I think he first rode in 89 so he couldnt of been there in 86.

Yes peter quinn, Martin cant see your image but im guessing its an ossa jkt or petrol tank, our house used to be full of them !!!
-
Hey Motosinge that guy on the 349 Mont with Quinns MCS on his back is a fella called Peter McDonnell, he and his brother Geoff rode a few times. Quinns was my old mans business and these two were sponsored by the shop.
cheers

Cubby
currently trying to tame my 06 300. I got on with it ok at first and actually rode it as well as my 250. But then had a month off, now i'm back riding I find its just too quick. It had the thicker base gasket in when i got it so Ive now put a spacer between the reeds and the inlet. I'll let you know if this helps after sundays wrestling session !!
-
well you were on the right lines with girls blouse but to be fair to you your not alone. The std scorpa clutch is a lot heavier than the sherco. Try a bigger master cylinder and / or a longer lever to make the clutch a bit lighter. I suffered exactly the same with my scorpa but your arm will get used to it eventually
-
so just after the first broadcast of kickstart Rathmell , Lampkin, Vesty etc all got deals with Pepsi, Mcdonalds and coca cola ????
I dont think it made a great deal of difference in terms of sponsors. TIMP is right its the trials that are the problem not the external coverage.
It doesnt matter who sponsored 99.9% of riders they wouldnt be able to do one section.
-
Doh
ok i get it.
Short stoke may not grip as well but because of the associated power charecteristics rather than the revolutions of the wheel idea. Must admit I got this idea from HRCs big bang 500cc GP road race bike. HRC changed the firing sequence of a V4 so that the interval between cylinders firing was greater, MCNs (Motor Cycle News) theory was that this provided greater traction.
I'll leave MCN and HRC to argue over that one !

I dont know that he would be able to hang around that long before he was out of time, to finish in time he'll have to ride (he being non novogar superhero) the majority near his alloted number as he can only be 20 mins late and he's excluded anyway.
What seems daft to me is that the good lads often have good numbers which makes the trial even easier for them. Dan Thorpe and Michael Phillipson ( nothing against michael or dan just an example) were in the last 20 or so entries at the travers and generally the sections get better and better as most are in slippy streams. So they ride the sections when they are at their best, and they are too good for the championship, then peoople wonder why they go round clean !

Rotation of the wheel will depend on engine revs and/or gearing, the stroke length doesnt make any difference. A piston goes past TDC once every revolution no matter how long the stroke is.
true, a piston goes past tdc every revolution of the crank but its how far the rear wheel goes for that revolution of the crank i'm referring to.
shorter stoke = higher revving = less torque (ability to pull higher gear).
gearing will effect the ratio of wheel and crank but rpm wont (unless the crank length or gearing changes with rpm the ratio wil always be the same) . If you had the same gearing on two engines with different strokes side by side then the short stroke must turn the wheel a shorter distance for one turn of the crank.

Just my thoughts on this as Ive done a few rounds in recent years.
The post above mentions the top five being close to zero, if they arent eligible for champioship points as they are too good then I think that s fine.
Its important to remember that the non eleigible riders are effectivley guests riding out of class and should not be influencing the severity of the event by their attendance.
In a southern trial why not put those riders to the back so that sections are harder for them anyway or in a northern trial put them right at the front. This would allow them to have a more challenging day and perhaps allow the event to be easier for the rest of us.

Just to give credit where its due Bernie Schrieber won the ssdt in 81 0r 82 on a 280 swm. Still the best trial in the world !!
-
All right leave him alone
how about distance between gearbox sprocket and end of swinging arm is one issue (effect of engine weight)
stroke of the engine is another issue ( a longer stroke engine will be less likely to break traction due to the number of times the piston goes past TDC per rotation of the wheel )
flywheel weight ( once you have the rear spinning you should be able to leave the throttle closed for longer to regain traction if the flywheel is heavier)
back pressure through exhaust ( that popping noise when your engine is slowing down after being revved, similar to flywheel effect ) just two stroke ???
actual power ouput and also how smooth the power curve is .
effect of rear suspension units ability to keep the wheel on the ground
disregard tyre because in a back to back test you would have the same tyre on all the bikes.
some combination of the above determines how a bike grips
in my rather humble opinion............

there was an ohlins advertised recently on TC for a sherco

ill have to drop it off as i dont like people coming to the house. however my van is very expensive to run so delivery will be around
