    2018 RR

I run the nils oil. It's almost like water it's that thin. You could try putoline light gear oil or something like that, a bit thicker oil will make the clutch softer. Just try moving the Iever toward the centre of the bars ?
  2. It works and isn't dangerous in my experience. No different to crossing a stream at the foot of a long descent
  3. Red galfers are the best pads ?
  4. Surprised given the detail around the move to montesa that vertigo are hardly mentioned ? Enjoyed the book all the same
  5. And some of the riders were in the top class until recently. Very impressed with Toby Martin this year
  6. John shirt will have been a dealer for Yamaha as I think the bikes came through Mitsui Yamaha
  7. I've struggled for years to ride over stuff where you can't see what's on the other side. If you try and see where you are going to land you end up leaning forward and not getting over the obstacle. What I have finally learned is once you set off , especially front wheel high , then you are committed. So looking doesn't actually help until you are off the obstacle. You have to assume you will land where you need to. Double steps are the same above a certain height. Once the bike is climbing you can't see the second one anyway as the front wheel is in the way. So rely on the sensation through the pegs to know if you are up.
  8. Busto is still on the way up and will improve. The rest of the top 6 are 30-40. Busto should be winning championships in a couple of years
  9. I' m 50 next month and I've geared my TRS up ?
  10. Just put the bars to right hand lock so m cylinder is at highest point. Back the adjuster off and keep slowly pumping the lever. If every things correct this has always worked for me
  11. I think it depends on the ability of the rider. Someone has recently wheelied round the TT course. Not sure if the bike had a flywheel weight though.....
  12. Do we need to ridicule ? As Jimmy points out every bike produced is a compromise. Before my TRS my favourite bike was a 280 gg but I'd always fit a flywheel weight. It still had a lot more torque than a standard 250 gas gas. For me a 280 with a flywheel weight was ideal. And while I'm on many infinitely more capable riders than me still tune their bikes to make them softer. Dan Thorpe would be a good example. Just pop along and tell a multi national trial winner he should stop kidding himself buying 300s and get a 250 or 125 or whatever @Solarflares would recommend. I'd think Dan knows exactly what he's doing and over time has a set up that suits him. Take whatever std bike you find is nearest to your needs and then adjust it if you want. The 280 TRS I have is std apart from the carb slide. If somebody wants to calm down a vertigo, given they don't make a 125 it's a perfectly reasonable question.
  13. From a professional riders point of view the current situation must be a nightmare. Riders of all levels should be able to practice to a reasonable approximation of how they are observed at an event but this differs week to week whereas it should be consistent. If you consider what its like for James Dabill and others who have in recent weeks ridden a British Championship Round, the six days and then the opening world round. These guys only know how they will be observed by watching how the observer treats the riders before them, what are they supposed to do if they are first ? Ride proper no stop will be the over 50s response but actually if the observer is subsequently lenient they may well have incurred a dab or a five that they may have got away with if they had balanced to recover or hopped back onto line. we cant have the situation of years gone by where in the WTC riders were taking over 5 mins to ride a section and the six days was struggling due to the number of delays each day. is something like 2 seconds permitted to stop reasonable, which is what many actually observe ? Not on a stop watch, the observer counts in his / her head or shouts ?
  14. No its a different design with a bit on the end of the shaft the clutch is mounted on. Could still be loose though ?
  15. But how does the rider know how lenient the observer is before entering the section ? BTC has a riders briefing which is a good idea.
  16. I agree with the difficulties you mentioned but there's a few more. Sections have to be possible to ride no stop. Riders need to attempt the sections no stop and know that it' worth the risk as others will be fived for stopping in each and every sections.
  17. Actually the initial post and the persons subsequent responses perfectly illustrate why top riders don't get fived. As soon as some negative feedback or query of the original post was made the poster begins to backtrack. Not getting at you @Intotrials but this is just an online chat, the winner of the SSDT is not determined on this conversation. Now imagine standing in front of a couple of hundred spectators, fiving Dibs, Doug or Gary Mc and sticking to your guns.
  18. Number 3 slide cures it.

    Winner ?

    James Dabill I reckon.
  20. You've also fitted a smaller pilot jet is 65 the correct size ?
  21. excellent point @heffergm I stopped using that type of adjuster for that very reason.
  22. I've had a master cylinder that didn't leak but wouldn't hold enough pressure to bleed. Also I've had a clutch on a gas gas that would draw in air overnight , I was at the Reeth 3 day trial. If I pumped the lever the bite point woul return to normal. Changed the hose and it was fine but I never found the actual leak. I think your issue has to be hydraulic, is the fluid level correct in the master cylinder?

    Ssdt gearing

I did the ssdt on rev 3 betas and just left the gearing standard. It was still quick enough on the road. Yes 1t on the front will make it quicker on the road but you'll struggle to use 6th on the moors and some of the tracks so over the whole day it may not be faster. I'd suggest that you gear it so it suits you in the sections , don't worry about the rest. Cleans make you smile
