Matt
the previous post is quite correct, the raga has a different front brake, some years have a different master cylinder and they all (so far as I have seen) have a floating disc. The disc helps as it means the caliper, which is fixed, lines up exactly with the disc even if the mounting brackets are out of line a touch.
Having said that people were doing stoppies on twinshocks with drum brakes so good technique will more than compensate for the different brake
can you let us know when you go over the bars ? we've all done it, its just a matter of time !!

You could also fit a slow action throttle if your bike doesnt have one already. Pull the grip back to reveal the tube the grip is fitted to, if its white thats a quick action throttle, you need to fit a black slow action one. cost about

I'd just check things like the gear lever, brake pedal, kickstart and sprocket bolts are tight and that it has oil and coolant. The dealer should check all this but it will only take 5 mins and then you get to ride your bike all day.
I think the linkage has seals in anyway so it should be fine for a first run out.
enjoy and go easy on the revs !
-
neutral should be between first and second gear, all the way down is first.
Put the bike on a box so the back wheel is off the ground and go through the gears turning the back wheel by hand (better by hand than running the engine in case there are some teeth flying round in there). you should have one neutral and six gears. I'm just thinking your second neutral maybe a gear with no teeth left on it.

I can t say I always enjoy being on the receiving end but the fairest observing from the point rappers is making ( and this is only my experience) is probably richmond. The observers apply the rules by the book and to everyone, they also have the best trials land in the world in my opinion. Problem solved rappers ?
I think elsewhere rappers is right. The NE centre has no stop at all centre trials but we also have a lot of tight turns and when you watch the expert course most people are stopping all the time if only briefly. i dont think the easy course people get away with as much.

I can beat that one mate
I took the air filter box off my new Gas Gas to seal the joints up and I stuffed a rag in the back of the carb. Reassembled bike with rag still in place and wondered why it wouldnt go. Even borrowed a friends CDI box and swapped that over before realising the mistake.
still its a neat trick if your going to the IOM with some mates and like practical jokes.....

Best way to test this and really only the effective way is to go somewhere which has a range of sections with a mich fitted to the bike and a dunlop on a spare wheel. I did this earlier this year and found the michelin better on wet grass and on rocks but the dunlop better on proper mud.
i think riding style has an impact as does the type of bike you ride and where you live.
Find what you like best and stick with it would be my advice.

for the sake of the well known silsden family I hope it isnt Joel Corroy or that Striet fella...
JCM just about finished my fathers business, then both Tony Scarlett and Bob Gollner had a go with them and didnt get very far either....
i wont pretend I'm not bitter but you cant even say third time lucky !
still, as ever, it would be nice to be wrong !

Ive voted yes but I dont think it will be that simple.
I think they maybe didnt sell enough copies to cover the non printing costs rather than they were just losing money by printing copies they didnt sell. They need to cover such costs as staff, attendance at events including travel, access to printing facilities etc. This will require a minimum number of copies to be sold and maybe they werent selling enough.
still it would be nice to be wrong !!

Thats a good point, we all love watching them ride up huge steps but its often not the kind of section that actually takes marks off the top lads. Take any factory bike with loads of power and set out 10 sections on wet limestone or a green slimey stream, marks will be dropped and nobody gets hurt.
I have to say I like the current time limit. I gave a video to a non riding mate once from paris bercy. I asked what he thought of it and he said
"Its great, this bloke was balancing a bike between two digger buckets, so I went and made a cup of tea and when I came back he was still there !! Boring ! "
I think the time limit stops this and also reduces the queues at sections

I thought about this from a different point of view having not been there but seen the results. In the WTC currently there are 5 people , possibly 6 who could win a round. These people on their day are brilliant in a way you cant imagine until you see it live.
BUT
Whilst some of those people want harder trials as its a world championship its becoming increasingly difficult for others to ride the course. I think Dabill and Morris and last week Michael Phillipson do very well but who else could actually ride without hurting themselves ?
I wouldn't set out a club trial for 12 people but last weekend thats how many where competing on the full course and we have the same problem at the british championship.
I dont think we should consider TV as that alone wont sustain trials. The format needs to work for the riders and if people want to watch thats great but its a bonus, you need the riders first.
So I think trials has to go to a format which will allow more people to compete and I think the previous post about people getting seriously injured before long is a valid point.
-
Anyone seen the results on here for the 3 day ? just wondering if I've missed them
-
how about getting someone like Talon to make you some disc brake wheels, modern hubs are only 32 spoke and i dont know if the rims are steel or aluminium on the TL but that would save a chunk of weight and you would have disc brakes as an added bonus.
-
some body may correct me but i thought the Gas Gas pro early 03 or 04 models had this carb and they were quickly taken off again as they were not very effective ?
-
do you mean in general or at the 3 day ?
time to duck !!!
-
I agree, from memory its the same motor as the air cooled gas gas,
-
there is an oversize tank on ebay at the minute if its any good to you, saw it last week and I know the fella if your interested.
-
The North East Centre used to have a number of trials with more than 10 sections but we now generally stick to 4 laps 10 sections. sometimes we really have 4 laps of eight as we use double subs which one observer can manage. Personally I dislike riders observing riders as you dont get consistent observing. I wouldn't like to do fewer sections than 10.
-
If it happens again I'd try trials central classified ads rather than the forums.....
out of interest can you bump start one ?
-
I do it the other way round. I got given a one piece suit which I only wear when practising, i wouldnt dare where it at a trial, the mickey taking would be endless !!!
lycra and beer gut, not a winning combination

Both front and rear suspension will have rebound adjusters, theses allow you to change how fast the suspension returns. Less damping = faster return. Make a note of settings before you start to adjust. front suspension is usually on right hand fork top, rear shock is at one end not sure which on a mont. you can also increase the tension on the spring via bolt on left fork top and by the adjusters on the shock.
bear in mind that less damping can also mean less control and grip . without being rude the gas gas you have seen will be jumping because the pilot knows how to do it, also the gas gas is also a lot lighter.
Try to think of it another way, a good rider can probably bunny hop and flick turn a twin shock bike...

Ive now seen the other thread which started this.
Nothing personal bigfoot but your having a laugh..
Jarvis won the SSDT in 98 0r 99 I think, 2004 wasnt his first win. As for no other riders moving rocks thats cobblers. They may be better at disguising their actions perhaps but they all do it. Dave Thorpe is still a legend at it now, saunders was once referred to as the golden boot for his dimmock like landscaping. Nothing against either rider im just using them as examples but i dont consider either of them cheats.
IF observers marked every one with a five who moved a rock then fine but we all know they dont.
Give grimbo a break, he's not done anything his competitors dont do.
-
This is always a good debate.
so Jarvis moved a two foot circular boulder and now he's the anti christ ?
do you really think that when amos, sam conner, dan thorpe etc came along half an hour later they wouldn't of done exactly the same thing? The ssdt for those boys is won and lost on one five in 180 sections.
So Graham leaves the rock alone and has a five or three on an easy section as a consequence, then I or some other wobbler falls off and moves said rock. another top guy then appears and cleans the section, whos the better rider ?
Gardening has always happened, in a pure sense it shouldn't but rocky sections change all the time, we all do it if we are honest.
-
Cota Kid all of the trials you mentioned have a clubman route, the travers is just one course, dont let this put you off as its normally a lot more like a clubman route than an expert route with most sections tricky rather than hard and very little big stuff.
