It's not the spelling @perce it's trying to choose !
For atmosphere Lagnaha Monday and Ben Nevis on Saturday.
For the actual riding I used to like Coire Dubh and Meal Nam Each but in recent years Meal Nam Each got beyond me.
Rhubarb, forest gate, witches , Meal Chore Glais and whatever the first group was called after crossing Rannoch Moor, off the side of the track on the way to Glen Lyon. All great to ride although I cleaned most of them only once, polite folk wouldn't refer to it as a fluke!

Actually I think there's something in this although some of it is in the riders head.
I went from a 250 to a 300 gas gas years ago and I couldn't chuck the 300 around like the 250. Some of it I think is just timing as the 300 was much quicker, some of it is confidence / nerves as if you are trying not to open the throttle too far then you end up trying to move the bike more physically.
Can't argue that the actual weight will be almost exactly the same.

Anyone who thinks his clutch lever is on the right but finished the SSDT deserves respect ?. Probably very wise not to say he'd broke the brake lever then get filmed on the road.
I think they tried to overplay the chances of being excluded in the last episode but probably just trying to make it a bit more dramatic for tv. Overall it was very good for Joe public. My colleagues at work now know what I was doing the first week of may a few years back.

@nigel dabster yes on std gearing you can use 4th on a TRS on a muddy climb, not sure it's the same as gas gas but lower than sherco
-
5 speed is just more of a comprise than 6.
My 07 sherco at the ssdt was fast enough on the road but on the moors 5th was too high and 4th was too low. 4th couldn't be used in mud sections as it was too high.
Gas gas / beta six speed box is better for long distance trials. However I never used 1st on my Beta so it's almost a five speed with a weight penalty but 5th 6th spacing was good.
I've currently got a TRS with a 5 speed box. 4th and 5th are lower than the sherco. So I've got a usable 4th for sections and it will pull 5th on the moors. But guess what, it's a bit slower on the road....
Number of gears shouldn't determine the choice of bike in my view unless you do lots of long distance trials with muddy climbs needing 4th!

We all need something to aim for even in the modern pc world. Sport is about endeavour, challenge, achievement, friendship through adversity.
Obviously given the range of ability even at centre level not everyone can get these things from a single event.
So to answer the original question if the event doesn't provide what enough people want you get a poor entry. There's a multitude of other possible factors but it's a limited market from which to attract entries and it's in decline.
After a summer of poor entries in the north east recent trials have got 100+ entries. Not easy trials and certainly challengeing terrain. Maybe some people protest about hard / long events but do them anyway.
-
@breagh Reeth 3 day, Scott trial, lakes two day, alwinton 2 day, Manx 2 day, loch lomond 2 day. All have around 200 entries.
Whats wrong with entries at these events? Nothing.
Local 4 lap 10 section trials are crap in comparison. Nothing to aim for nothing to train for no atmosphere no sense of achievement.
-
Dave Burroughs summed it up on tonight's Ross Noble show. It's about the challenge. If it's not about the challenge you are in the wrong sport. Not everyone has to do the six days but we went wrong by trying to make trials appeal to people who are basically not trials riders. If it doesn't appeal to today's young people then stop pretending it ever will.

If you get the chance stand next to Dougie, that's the end of the theory I'm afraid
-
-
Yes they are and that event is exactly the opposite of what some people on this thread claim is required. It's not multi route, it's on the road, its certainly not very near many peoples houses and it's single lap with significant mileage between sections.
And nobody is afraid of losing 10 marks
-
Dsb trial. It's important to use the right letters in the right order ?
-
Tick tock it's getting close to 1st December
-
Jitsie knee protecters under tracksuit pants if you don't want to wear modern gear.
-
@nigel dabster you remind me of my dad when I told him Santa wasn't real...
-
@sting32 well as an owner I'm baffled by the list of changes as well. I can't tell you what's wrong with the current kickstart mechanism or any bearing within the motor as it's all worked exactly as it should.
Not sure what problem they are trying to fix?
-
With hindsight why did they make the 300 so heavy ?
-
The TRS is very similar to a gas gas to ride. I think it has a little more weight bias towards the front and the steering head isnt quite as steep. I find it steers better, less twitchy, as a result.
My previous gas gas was a racing with a two way Reiger shock and marzocchi forks. The suspension on the RR TRS is a significant improvement.
I got mine in February, in terms of problems all I've had to replace is the spherical bearing in the linkage which was £20. The seals and bearings throughout the rest of the linkage are still good and not damaged due to a better linkage design. My bikes done quite a bit of work so I've gone through pads, wheel bearings and sprockets as you would expect.
I did richen the carb a little from new but I had to do the same to the gas gas.
Overall I'm delighted with it, its well thought out and properly put together. I'll have another one.

Maybe the truck priority has changed under new promoters ?
-
It's how I bleed them when I have to fit a hose so will work. With the bars on right hand lock the clutch master cylinder is at its highest point. Back the adjustment off on the lever so there free play in the system then pumping the lever will cause any bubbles to rise. No need for a bleed nipper.
Others may disagree but it's always worked for me and it'll take5 mins if everything is ok so you don't have a lot to lose.
-
Just top it up, turn bars to right full lock and pump the lever. If the fluid starts to drop either the hose is damaged or loose or the slave cylinder seals have failed.
-
-
Where did you see that ?
Just needs some more mud in the series and we might get some more variation in results
-
If they really want it it's very difficult to stop them. Most security stuff will just delay them. Hopefully for long enough for their attendance to be noticed.
Get alarms, chains, take the wheels out and get it insured.
