It really depends on you Ben. The Keihin is a trade off, it will give smoother low rpm power and a lot more high rpm power. So if you are fiving sections because you bke doesnt rev high enough then it could be worth doing. However if your not having that problem keep your money.

I think originally before the exchange rate change a 290 was

can you try that in english, Ive got no idea what you want .

Well thats just not fair
first of all he was a better rider and now you show me he has kept his hair !

Yes its possible but its also unlikely as they rarely give trouble. The only places air can get in via the caliper are the connection with the hose, the joint between the two sides of the caliper or the seals around the pistons. I've never had to replace the seals around the piston on any bike and as long as the bolts are tight which hold the caliper together its extremly unlikely to leak from the joint. You may have a problem getting to the hose to seal, when you have lost pressure have you checked that all the joints are dry ? If you can get it work on the bench and then leave it for an hour does it still work ?
-
The pistons may be seized in the caliper or the system has too much fluid in it. The resevoir should not be full to the brim, it should have some space for expansion, this is the easiest thing to check. If it has space in the resevoir then try and push the pistons back, you may need to work them back and forward a few times to get them moving freely. If they are corroded then you need to replace them. You should only clean them in brake fluid, dont apply WD40 or similar as this can cause the seals to swell.

This looks a bit odd ?
theres a new sherco on Ebay sourced from the UK importer.
I'd post the link if i could but just search for sherco and it comes up.
Have Sherco UK got a lot of bikes left or is this just an individual ? seems odd that an individual would buy a new bike then sell it without riding it ?

trace all the wiring from the stator and see if its worn through somewhere, normally the fan either works or doesn't in my experience rather than intermittent.

any day now there'll be two little Baldi's kicking off on regular basis, we'll call in and see you mate !
-
Does the Rev 4T use the same manufacturer of ignition systems ? havent heard of any 4T failures
-
Similar to the championship winning machine ?
What like 300cc ?
4 speed gearbox ?
bluetooth programmable ECU ?
and weighs less than a Gas Gas.......
I think similar looking might have been more honest.

Wahey is quiet now then Gary with the new silencer ?
long time no see, how are you doing ?
I'm on standby at the minute for mini me arriving so I havent ridden for a few weeks

I have heard a theory on the stators which came up recently on another TC discussion about Beta stators. Dan Williams suggested it may be how the kill switch is wired ? Now this may seem easy to dismiss for some but on that topic I mentioned a mates 03 bike which had numerous stators replaced until he gave up and bought a Scorpa. I had an 03 Beta at the same time and when I sold it after 10 months including the completing the ssdt it was still on the same stator. My 04 Beta never had a stator either and when I think about this now in those days I dont think I used to fit a kill switch...
Coincidence ? I'm not particularly loyal to any brand and I'm not trying to defend Beta in any way but wouldn't it be ridiculous if the problem is that simple to resolve and its caused this much fuss for this length of time.
So has anybody had a stator fail who hasnt fitted a kill switch to the bike ?
-
I think the Beta is popular as apart from electrics they dont give a lot of trouble plus the electrics are easy enough for most people to change themselves.
All the bikes have problems, in the last week we have people asking for advice on changing sherco main bearings, why the fan isnt working on their scorpa and how to fix the clutch and gearbox on a gas gas.
The Beta has problems but it sells because its the cheapest ! at the start of the year a sherco was about

carb mods were additional, mark the stator plate and rotate past the allen bolt at the top if you know what I mean. If you search this forum copemech posted a good diagram last year which I used as a start point.

this will work but you will lose some torque as well as it will lower the compression. I softened my 07 290 by retarding the timing 5mm and going one notch richer on the needle (lower the clip by one groove) and fitting a larger pilot jet (one number). THese things are all relativley easy to do and you can change it back if he doesnt like it. You could also fit an inlet spacer ?
-
Hi Ham how you doing ?
expert ? at my age I need all the help I can get to stay on the top course so I may have to put the stand back on and ask all obervers to stand to the left of the section !
hows that motor going ?
-
Shirty for an S3 titanium pipe
Splatshop for keihin carb and inlet spacer
Saunders for carbon exhaust gaurd and decal set
Renthal bars from anywhere you like
frame gaurds from trick bits

if only I had this much cash spare.......

I put the boyesens in and retarded the timing and I really like it. However you need to richen the carb with either a bigger pilot jet or on the mixture screw as the boyesens make the bike run weak below 1/4 throttle. I thought the caby head was lower compression not higher ? my friends caby is much easier to kick over than my standard 07.

Ive been down this road before , putting new rings on a worn piston fitted to a worn barrel wont make it quieter, pistons rattle and rings dont.
I think it could be the piston or the clutch as the clutch is a little noisey on the beta but its nothing to worry about. Why not ring Beta and get a price on a piston kit ? if the rest of the bike is sound at least you know what the piston might cost you if thats what it is .

I admire Pat Smage for having a go but I think the importance being attached to him riding in europe is out of proportion and puts more pressure on him. I dont think his results are going to cause the US population to rush out and buy trials bikes even if he does become World Champion in a few years, but thats got more to do with the exchange rate and the us economy than Pats results.
I think the hype or fuss is out of proportion as at the moment he is riding 125. I'm not sure how old he is 16 maybe 17 ? Bou was riding world rounds at 17 I think and a young Dougie Lampkin was still 17 or just 18 when he won his first world round. Before there is a stampede of replies I know the sport has changed with the introduction of different classes and the top boys are now further ahead. The point i'm trying to make however is even if Pat Smage was winning the 125 easily the sections are still miles away from the full world championship course so why all the fuss ?
As someone else said leave him to get on with it, he has a long way to go but I hope he gets what he wants out of it.

I thought Christophe Bruand was riding the WTC for Scorpa this year on the four stroke ? There was a video posted a while back but I havent seen him in the results as yet this year ?
-
no its a nikasil liner so you can t rebore but pistons come in a,b,c,d sizes with b typically being standard. You might get away with a C or D piston otherwise its
