There is something like path dependency. Descisions taken in the past have influence on nowadays, and cannot be easily retracted, atleast not as easy as when the descision was actually made. Maybe it is not smart (business point of view) anymore to spend a lot of money in the championships, but if you already done that for ages its difficult to stop.
See it like a motorcycle fair, if you have been there for 20 years with your shop and suddenly you stop with it, what sound does that give.
But maybe if you could have the descission from the start (for a new company) you would not go there...
Same thing happens with choises about e.g. reliability vs competitiveness (if it would be one or the other). Once the descission is made all work will point in one direction, making it more difficult to go back to the other choise after a couple of years. (think about why the QWERTY keyboard is still there?)
-
I would put ATF in it (from those choises). I use lightgear oil from putoline myself. Maybe you can find it.
For the fork oil, we cant say which is better, depends on setup, weight, what your needs are etc. Both are good, depending on what you want, thicker = more harder suspension.

Reading the beginning of this topic is so much fun now. I stopped a couple of years ago with watching, and now started to look again. Some races are still pretty boring, moto 3 and 2 are quite exciting. But it is getting better!
I cant help it, always liked Rossi, and his style and certain way of smootheness or something.

He means a non motorized bike

Answer: a 4 stroke will do
A 2 stroke will do aswell.
Both can be competitive. Question depends so much on what brand you want to buy etc. 2 strokes dont have a lot of cons with trial, which they might have with MX or other bikes.
Riding style is different, try it and see if it pleases

The plastic thing is the kickstarter stop
MT280226011
There seems to be quite a lot of particles in the engine? Is it from the idle gear/kickstart gear?
Further the case itself is replaced, because it used to bend too much. (after 2003 i think)
Also i do remember something about the spring (the round one on top of the clutch, holded by the +- small bolds) which has become different strenght after some years. Not sure.
Also the fingers are changed sometime. (dont now what year).
Important is to start measuring, search for the correct thickness of plates and off the fingerheight. (its explained in multiple topics so should be findable:))
THis makes or brakes the clutch feel!
-
It is not
BTW the idle gear is on located on the lower part of the clutch, the crank gear is on the outside edge. But its not from a pro, atleast I do not recognise it. But what is it from? Keep in mind the thread in the gear.
-
Montesa has a bracket for the brake so it aint that i think. Ossa MAR could be!
Looks bit like bultaco, but those have the lower parts of the forks bent forward, this one looks in line with the forks.
-
Have that sometimes, pressing log out and then log in again solves it here.
-
I think that part of the problem is inevitable atm. If you look broader you will see it in other disciplines aswell. People have less time, economical conditions, less social time to spend at sport clubs as volunteer etc.
Look at small MX GP starting field, etc.
Supermoto used to be a very big starting field in Belgium and the Netherlands. Now they have bundled both competitions because the number of riders are decreasing. Some clubs cancel events (with again makes people quit the competition). Amatures need to drive very far in order to participate the whole competitition. If you live up north in Netherlands and have to go 5 times a year to the border of Belgium and France this cost serious money (togheter with fuel, tyres, registration fees, licences etc). It becomes quite serieus expensive. And ok its a hobby and may cost money and time, but if people cant afford it anymore its one of the easiest things to stop with. No competitors no competition, no competition, no competitors.
If I would participate in national events (not in the higher class) I would end up higher in ranking than in the regional and club trials, and I would have the same competitors (but less). I would need to pay a lot extra, have far more rules etc and the results do not say anything.
This does go troughout the whole lot of people, from beginners to experts. All experts start as beginners...
What does get a lot of entries here? Off the road rides, just get to the event, subscribe, ride the route as you like, no special rules (exept sound rules), no penalties when you dont start, just have fun.

Somebody recognises this?

offroad motorcycle chains nowadays have links that require ''special tool'' (or some force) to put on. Probably because of liability for the manufacturer
-
Usa pounds are different than Uk pounds (both strange parties if you ask me, lol)
-
Its also easier, just a name thing.
-
The position is inportant, do not remember the right way though out of my head.
/see its has been answered good above !
-
Thats actually the way to go on any bike if you dont know, and dont have a manual or so.
Good topic, since you made basic mistaces, and learned from it!
Never believe previous assambly is perfect. Think if everything is right, and try to argue WHY you are right. This makes you learn even more!

Motorcycle friendly 10w40. Car clutches are dry, motorcycles clutches are wet (other thicknesses also possible depending on wheater)
YOu dont need a fancy expansive one, just oil will do. No need for fully syntetic (some say better not).
I use castrol rs, simply because I have it in stock for other bikes aswell.
Around 650cc
-
I would just put 10w40 in those older gg engines!
-
Some older models used to have axels without a hex on the right side. Only a small alen key for the left side where there was a small ''plug''. Take that out some turns and hit with a rubber hammer would do fine.
The other fork I have does have a side where a big alen key can attach, but strange size. So I adapted a hex nut and welded a bold into it, so i can put a spanner on it.

Maybe you should hire.........
The A-TEAM!

Great win at ssdt for dougie! What a champ!
-
If it overheated it would have droped cool liqued out of the overflow hose. So probably you found it soon enough. I would replace pump, clean everything you can see, put new oil on, ride a bit, and replace oil again.
