all done, once again thank you everyone, all i had to do was to send my acu number and a photo and that was it, i would still be waiting if i hadn't looked at some of the other posts and how fast people where saying acu where at sending licences out.
-
thanks Andy, i made myself a member of macclesfield trials club last knight, i received a conformation email and i am waiting for them to send me a code for my licence, i have also had a reply from the acu asking me which club i am a member of so maybe today i can clear up the mess i'v made, thanks for your patience i will keep you informed.
-
with being new to trials i would say you are better off with a slow throttle and for lanes and road i never use first and second gear i just go from third, i would definitely try to listen to another bike of the same year and make before you do anything to the exhaust being as the only thing you have compared it with is your friends st 250.
-
i can only reply to one topic and then i have to log out and log back in again or if i want to use the places to ride part of the forum i can only look at one topic and after i go back it says i;m not aloud unless i log in again, is this because of cookies as well? i'm on a apple mac.
-
the reason for not knowing which club to join was i am planing to move back to my home town stoke on trent but after reading the last few replies i will probably be joining a club in derbyshire, it would be the best one for me if i move or if i stay where i am, i have already arranged for somebody to phone for me on monday as cancer left me with a very bad speech inpediment and i have also sent an email, thanks for the help, i'll let you know how i get on.
-
Well it says payment conformation on the recipe and I do want to join a club, l just don't know which one, I would of done that first if l had known but I was on the acu site, just to have a look and I saw the registration form so I just started to fill it in then it seemed all I had to do was send the ten pound, so I did and now I'm here, all confused to what I paid ten pound for.
-
so i have paid £10 for nothing then really.
-
iv got a reference number, i just took it out and if it's not an application then what have i paid £10 for.
-
with not being a member of a club, i thought i would apply for my Trial Registration with the ACU, so i could just turn up at meetings and have my licence all done, below is an email i was sent after i paid my £10 but i have not received a licence yet, does it take a long time or have i missed something.

the person who had my bike before me put a thin layer of aluminium around the silencer and just put a few rivets in it to hold it and it doesn't look bad at all, if i was keeping it i would spend the money on a new one but i think i will be having a newer model in a few months so i am keeping it as it is.
-
i have got a 1999 sherco and the previous owner kept on top of the maintenance and it looks really clean, he also used sticky back carbon on part of the frame and on the side and seat part of the rear mudguard which looks really good but the decals where showing their age so i sanded it down and i have made my own decals, i was going to paint the mudguards first, i even bought the paint but then i noticed some silver sparkles in the original plastic which i would lose if i painted it so i decided to clear coat it, i have put three coats on and used a finishing compound on it and they look really good, i am putting the decals on today and putting two more coats over the top, i will send some photos when i have finished, i suppose only time will tell if the clear coat cracks or not but it looks good at the moment, i think covering parts of a bike with some age to it can look good and it very easy to do and is a cheaper option, i would prefer to see a bike restored as close as you can get to the original but thats just my opinion.
-
have a look on ebay, there is a lot of ty stuff on their at the moment.
-
i noticed today, when i was watching the x trials in sheffield that on a certain obstacle most of the riders would roll backwards but in the rules i read it says if you go backwards then it is a five, is it different rules for the indoor trials than the out door.
-
Thanks for a fast reply, I understand now, I new about the oil in the reservoir but I for some reason thought that you where talking about another oil that I would have to put in, at least it is clear to me now and I now know what oil to put in when it needs it, I even watched the video on changing the gas gas clutch and wondered why he didn't drain any oil first before he started, it may seem silly to some people but with being a complete novice it's better to ask silly questions than have a broken bike.
-
i have just read a post about a xtx pro clutch and somebody replied back saying, I think you should be using mineral oil in the clutch reservoir and light gear oil in the engine, so this started me thinking is this the same on a sherco, i didn't even know that the clutch used oil, so how do i check it and how do i replace it if it needs replacing.
regards
Tony

im glad about that, dvla take so long to do anything unless it's points on your licence.
-
are the acu anything to do with the dvla.
-
The tank under the seat or like the new Sherco, it looks great how it balances with the silencer on the other side, also have different people trying to kick start the bikes in the factory, like small women and under 16 year olds, so they can get it right, people shouldn't have to swap their bike for smaller ones because they can't kick start Their bike.
-
yes I see what you mean, I can go a bit higher, the £1,500 plus what I get for the bike is their but I can go higher up to about another £500 but I would have to put the other £500 back, if I saw a bike that was worth the extra money then I would have it, it looks like everyone is in favour of selling the bike so that what I will do, l thought I would do, l just wanted to here from people with a lot more knowledge on the subject.
-
I am more for selling it than keeping it, l will definitely get my money back, I paid £700 for the bike, almost new boots worth £150, helmet worth about £50, gloves about £15 and a bike rack, I think they are about £80 so that means the bike was around £400, I have looked at the ossa and they look really tidy but I think they are fuel injection and I only have a limited amount of bike maintaining knowledge, I like the new Sherco with the fuel tank at the back, l have seen one for sale at £1,900 , I think it is 2010, it's a bit bigger than mine, it's a 290 but it's got the new frame with round bar so it's bang up to date and I will only be riding in club trials, thanks for the replies.
-
I have had my Sherco for a few months, I had it to see if I would take to trials or not, I didn't want to spend much money on a bike at first and when I saw this for sale I had to have it, the problem now is, very soon I will have about £1.500 to spend on another bike and also the money from the Sherco if I sell it or part x it, I would like to ask peoples opinions on if it would be worth keeping it because it is a bultaco sherco and in the future could be a well sort after classic or just get rid so their is more money in the pot for a more up to date bike, I don't think it will become a classic in my life time but the longer I keep it the safer it is from being broken into parts to get more money back than selling it as a working machine.
-
I have changed the valve and everything looks good, the valve tool and four valve inserts cost me £1.50 from ebay, cheep as chips.
-
I have received my book, a few days earlier than I thought, from the bit I have read it looks really well put together with loads of photos, I also had a pair of jitsie t1 radikal gloves £12.50 and a jitsie t1 radikal riding jersey for £17 just the jersey should have been nearly £40 so a big saving, anyone wanting riding gear l would have a look at the splatshop first.

Complete Guide To Motorcycle Trials Book - Steve Saunders
does anybody have this book and would you recommend it, i have just found out that i have had this book for a xmas present but it's from the splat shop and so they are not back in the shop until the 2nd so it hasn't been sent out yet, from what i'v read it looks a good book and it's a perfect gift for me.
-
thanks for the information, now i know it's the valve it's not to much of a concern and yes if he can get cheap tyres i suppose i will have some new friends, i know that he gets his car tyres free but thats just for his own car but any discount is good discount, i'm meeting him tomorrow so i will ask him.
