  1. So far so good, bike seems to be behaving itself! Just have to be careful and remember the switch off the fuel every time the bike is switched off for a while! not sure about setting the floats?
  2. Cheers Guys! so today I went out and took off carb and took down all the numbers of the jets and took a look at the float switch too, put everything back on again and gave it a few kicks without plug and it was clear, probably as it was sitting overnight with plug out, the petrol must have evapratied maybe, anyway i put it all back and done what you guys told me to do (couldnt find nebours cat tho!) it started up rough but ran clear after that! I took it out for a spin and all is ok now, well apart from the back exhaust blocked up and the black petrol soaked packing shooting out the back! sounds like a 4rt now! ha! hope its as eazy to re-pack as a gas gas? also something else i done when putting back the carb, i got two pices of fuel pipe and an inline fuel filter (just because i had no longer pipe) but by making the fuel line longer, i looped it down around the bottom of the carb and back up the tank, im thinking this might help stop the flooding incase the tap is left open when bike is layed up, I am thinking by doing this it will make it harder for syphon action to happen? not sure tho, it would be intresting to her what you guys think? (the professionals) I have ordered a load of them cheap inline fuel turn of taps form china for all the bikes! Happy Monty again, happer rider!
  3. Ok thanks guys! I will check tomorrow and see if theres any petrol down below, i did get kinda hard to kick at one stage so that could have been a sign she was hydro locked, when i hydro lock my gas gas it used to drip black fuel from the exhaust manfold, but on the monty its hard to see, and yeah i know what you mean about the fuel tap in a not so eazy location to reach! might by some of them little in-line fuel shut of taps and fit it near to the carb! Ok Lineaway i will try that too, just to be clear, you mean kick it over with throttle wide open and have the cap off the spark plug incase she starts?
  4. Hi Guys, My 315r keeps wetting the spark plug when i go to start it, I pulled out the carb and checked to see if the floats where stuck but they seemed free and everything looked fine! the bike had been layed up for a while and was running crap, like reving to the moon on start up and not idling right, to not starting at all!, so last night i changed the carb for another carb i had around the place and the bike started and ran sweet as could be, the best iv ever seen it, then this morning i started it up frist kick without choke and away it went lovely, so i switched it off and got all my gear on and pushed it outside and it wouldnt start? and now thats where im at! do any you guys think it might be the reeds? something letting fuel in the head and fouling up the plug? Thanks guys
  5. Ok up date on the problem, after re thinking, we checked the plug again and it had signs of running lean, we whipped out a nearly new plug from one of the other bikes and tryed it, the bike started up stright away and instantly you could hear the difference! after a min adjusting the air mixture and tick over screws on the side of the carb the bike was running fine again, well better than fine! it even sounded really nice and quite! changing the plug made a world of difference! this problem must have been due to old/bad/stale fuel mix i will monitor the the plug after a good spin just to keep an eye on it, but i pritty much think thats that solved!
  6. Ok checked the carb again, stripped it down and blow out the main jet and all the other intake holes in the carb, i took out the main jet and it was clear, i robbed the in take maifoild from another bike i had and it had no stress cracks in it so i thought that would help too, also i put fresh petrol mix in to the tank, and started it, ...... this time the bike now reves up on full choke and the throttle is not responding right, as when you reve it up it stays high on the reves and the only way to get it back down is to put it in to gear and let out the clutch! ok turn choke off the bike dies away! so heres is the odd part!,,,,,,,, start bike on full choke and drive it for 5 mins then turn choke off bike stays running at idle, but pull the throttle back and at bottom end there a bad flat spot then bike reves up and takes its time to return to idle? while driving the bike like this it seems not too bad but its lost most of its bottom end grunt and it wont start with out full choke on? I am not sure now where to look at next? probably best to rob a another carb of the spare bike i have and then see what happens?
  7. Ok I will check carb again tomorrow and specifically look for the pilot! thanks for your input, I will post up results tomorrow
  8. Hi Guys, My 1998 txt 270 is cutting out whn the choke is pushed in, when the choke is out it runs fine! any ideas? I whipped off the carb and cleaned it, eveything in there seemed ok! i checked the manafold intake rubbers and they look ok-ish! i check ed spark plug too and it was fine, put bike back togeather again and still the same way.
  9. Just after going back out again now that the bike is cold and it started frist kick with choke out! i will try again tomorrow just to be sure, but its looking good that the new petcock has done the trick!
  10. Ok got to work on the bike for a shoet time today, So I changed the fuel tap for a working one off a txt pro i had spare, I done the compression test too, now not sure if i tested it right or if the tester was working right eather so this was how i done it, took out plug and screwed in tester, then got TDC and kicked and got reading, then repeted 3 times to see if i got the same readings, heres what i got (TXT270 1998) compression test so while I had the plug out i gave it a few kicks to see, and yeah think there was slight petrol mist comming from head, so after that put plug back in and it started eazy! So guys i havent a clue about what it says on the compression gauge? but I tested some of my other bikes too, so it would give me a idea so here is the others i tested This is the TX270 (1998) This is the TXT pro (2004) This is the JTX270 (1997) The compression tests kinda seem all the same or close as, wonder if the tester is working right?
  11. Hell! you guys think the top end could be gone or starting to go? dam! i will do a compression test on it Monday evening if i get a chance, I have an old compression tester some where n the bike shed, I will probably have to cross refrance it with a test on the other TX270 are there both same year of bikes and engine size, my fuel mix is about 80:1 i think! when i do get the bike fried up it goes like hell, fuel tap is not working propraly as when you shut it off and pull the pipe petrol still comes out! I will try your plug test as well, last time i pulled the plug a few days go it was dry light brown color with build up on the inside of plug The bike was a slightly hard starter when I got it, i mean you could start it on frist kick if you gave it a belter, but if you missed it on the frist kick it would take about 10 after that! Ok thanks for all the ideas, I will check them soon and post up results Regards, Colin
  12. Hi Guys, My 1998 txt 270 is puzzling me when it takes over 30 kicks to start it! it never used to be like that! but once its runng is fine and will start frist kick after that! The bike is a quick bike, it has slow action throttle on it and makes no difference what so ever. I cleaned airbox and filter, pulled carb off and cleaned it, only thing i noticed was on the chock jet, the rubber O-ring was a bit perrished on one side, so im not sure if that would stop it starting? I replaced the plug in it, for a new one too. any suggestions? Cheers Regards, Colin
  13. yeah i had a 02 pro that loved gearbox milk shakes! so yeah water in gearbox turns milky, but the black/gray had me puzzled!
