  1. Very interesting post! I have a right arm disability which has caused me to use my left arm dominantly & my 4 main joints ache after riding. I've just soaked in a hot bath & I've been using pain tabs & volterol gel. As I'm serious about getting better at trials even with a arm that doesn't work I've just been reading about joint care. Vitamins D & K Glucosamine Turmeric Chondrotin In the UK Holland & Barrett plus Boots do both. Jointace has Glucosamine, turmeric & Chondrotin. As I'm aching a bit I've just ordered them so I will let you know how I get on once I've started a course of them & taken them a while. The problem i find in the UK is we get weedy doses compared to Europe. I will let you know how I get on. Si
  2. Konrad Thanks for your help. She's puring like a kitten now. Just done the oil & filter too. Cracked up first time. Inch perfect tomorrow now weather permitting. Si
  3. Through the powers of the forum I've fixed the issue so no need for a workshop now.
  4. Thank you, I took the pilot jet out & cleaned it, it was blocked. It's a tiny hole but I got it cleaned out. I will reset the circlip as it seems it's in the wrong position & see what happens. Does the other screw need fettling??? Si
  5. Hi all, I've been posting recently about my 290 sherco which has been running lean. Today I stripped down the carb & cleaned up everything & re assembled it. The needle circlip is on the 2nd from the top notch, is this the correct one? Once the needle is in the correct position does anyone know roughly where I need to position the screws for the fuel? Sorry for all the questions I just want my bike to run sweetly. Thanks Si
  6. Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good mechanic locally in West Yorkshire that can have a look at my sherco? It's running lean & is a sod to keep the revs down. I've stripped the carb & cleaned everything & put it back together but it needs fettling. It doesn't want to play ball & i want to go riding. Cheers Si
  7. Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look at it this week & see what's what. Si
  8. Hi everyone, I wonder if I could seek ssome help please. I've recently bought a second hand 04 290. Yesterday I went riding for a long period of time & found me fighting with the bike a little. It wasn't until another sherco of similar vintage to mine arrived at the trials park that I noticed the difference. I will try to explain the issue. When I start up the bike the tick over is revving away then when I blip the throttle it is quiet high revving & it seems really high. The other bike riding around didn't sound anything like mine it seemed to sound a lot more relaxed & smoother. I found a video on YouTube of a guy messing with the screws on the carb. I've given those a few turns to the same setting he did but it's not really done a great deal to change the way my bike is revving. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks Si
  9. Thank you for your honest opinion. Some excellent information, I'm OK doing most repairs but anything inside an engine I'll leave to those that know what they are doing. I think we still have a montesa dealer locally but there's plenty of motorcycle garages locally many who also sell trials bikes. Sounds like my initial thought on a 4 stroke was right. Cheers Si
  10. As I've now got my son into trial I fancy a bike to ride. I'm disabled with a arm injury & I'm looking for riders experiences with the montesa 4rt. I'm a tall lad & I'm not looking to compete, I darent as my injury is severe, I do however want to have a bike to ride around, climb some hills & just have a bit of fun with my son. I gave up trials as I was far to busy racing speedway & I had a late 90s model gasgas. The 4rt had just arrived & saw Douggie on it, i just thought it was a superb bike & I kind of have my heart set on one. How do they compare to the 2 strokes? Does a 2 stroke bike have advantages apart from weight. I can't flick a bike about anymore as one arm is locked in a 90 degree position however I can still ride, just. I would love to get my speedway bike back out the shed but it's lethally fast & my arm wouldn't take the punishment. I'm looking for something that's gentle enough to enjoy & maybe to carry my over 40 ass up to a section at a trial as I'm hoping to help observe. Sorry if I've rambled a bit but hopefully it paints my picture a bit better. Si
  11. Thanks guys, I'm 6ft 8 so I need them. I only want to play at inch perfect & other places locally. I'll come up with something I'm sure, looking forward to joining in again. Thanks Simon
  12. Hi everyone, I've just bought my son a trials bike to start riding & he's asked me to get one so we can go to some practice days together. I was involved in a motorcycle crash some years ago which has left me disabled. My right arm is locked at 90 degrees on the elbow so I cannot straighten one of my arms. I know the boat has sailed for competing but I would like to potter around. I was wondering if anyone knows if anyone does any disabled handlebars or some kind of adaptations to help. Thanks Simon
  13. Hey guys, Cheers for the replies, theirs a nice mix of machines to try there. When i've purchased road bikes in the past there are demo machines at dealerships which you can test ride before you part with your dosh, is this something trials dealers offer ??? I was looking at a 280cc bike because i am rather tall & not exactly light weighing 17 stone which i've always found problematic with smaller motorcycle engines. I had a 350 Jawa grasstrack bike which will no doubt throw out bags more power than a trials bike & i had to literally spank the nuts off it to keep it going. Hopefully there is somewhere i can test bikes so i know when i make my purchase i'm getting the perfect tool for the job. Si
  14. Hi all, After years of doing speedway & grasstrack i retired due to injury & i've taken a few years out. I'm keen to start riding again but i can't handle speedway any longer & i want to ride trials. I'm currently recovering from a nasty road accident & i'm due a few quid from the claim. I'm going to buy a brand new bike & i've no idea what's hot & what's not. Up to press i like the look of the Montesa & the Ossa but i could be barking up the wrong tree with them. Anyone got any advice on buying a new machine ?? Cheers Si
