First impressions? It looks like a good fun day out everyone had a smile on their face despite the mud being in Somme quantities. The people seem like a friendly bunch, the observer i spoke to was really helpfull too. I might be a novice but i certainly wouldnt have been the oldest there, and the youngsters were all great riders. One of my photos is of a lad halfway up the steepest bank at the trial and allthough he had a foot down near the top he made it all the way, a feat many of the adults couldnt match, the look of pride on his dads face was amazing. Eadons will be my regular practice ground as i live close by so i will get to know it very well. If the photo slideshow isnt working for you try this link. sorry i seem to have doubled up some of the shots) trials make for great photos for the very reason Ourian made the bikes and clothing make a great contrast to the suroundings. http://www.flickr.co...157639932330734 Dont know whats going on with flickr when i post a direct link i get the slideshow again.

Any of you who read my "am i too old thread" will know at 47 im a Trials virgin. Anyway after buying a bike i decided to visit a trial to have a look round and see what i have let myself in for. The trial was run by Sheffield and Halmamshire club and i enjoyed it, had a chat to an observer who expalined how to get started in the sport and also how the marker flags work etc. Several of the riders said hi and i was suprised by the mix of old and new machines and riders of both genders who were there. Im quite interested in Photography so took plenty of pics some of which are on my flickr page.

I have an update for you, It happened a little quicker than i expected but i now have a bike. A member of this forum contacted me with a bike for sale now he has moved to a twinshock machine. It turned out to be just the job i think. Its a Gas Gas JTX 250. Plenty of life left in it even though its a 97, I have plenty of falling off to do so i wouldnt want anything newer anyway. It has a lighting kit, A full set of plastics in silver that have been with the bike from new, a bundle of spares (im sure the levers will be needed) LOL. It came with the original recipt and certificate of authenticity etc. Im really happy with it. Traveled down to oventry to buy it from a really nice guy called Ian. Thanks again for the help loading the bike and the cuppa was spot on too.

Hi everyone. At the tender age of 47 i have decided to give this trails riding a go. just for fun to keep my lad company when he is riding. I dont have the budget for a new bike and have being eying bikes around the £1000 mark. obviously due to the nature of the sport a trials bike can lead a hard life, so what checks should i make when viewing a potential purcase? I havent riden a two stroke bike for many years what checks can i make engine wise? Thanks for any advise you an give. Gary.

Cant argue with that then. Activly looking around the net at bikes now, need to sort out some storage, I keep a classic car my lads bike and several push bikes in the garage. I also need to think about how to transport 2 bikes.

Wow, what a fantastic reponse, I never expected so many people to chip in. And its a masive thumbs up too. It looks like i had better start looking for a bike . Ive done the speed thing and lived with the dangers of sharing the roads with myopic car drivers, My wife was happy when i sold the road bike because i had already been punted off my bicycle in traffic, and it would be nice to do some riding instead of just watching my lad enjoying himself. So the next question is what bike is good for a beginner? 125, 250, bigger? Thanks again guys Gary.

Hi all. My 14 year old has a KX85 Motorcross bike and to give him some riding time in a safe and legal enviroment we have paid our fee to Grant and have been using Eadon fields at dronfield. Im sure some of you will know it. Obviously while there we have seen the trials riders and im keen to have a go. I sold my last road bike 2 years ago and apart from a go on the lads bike have not riden since and have never riden trials. So at 47 am i too old to start? Im 5'8 and 11 stone reasonably fit, but im guessing it quite a physical sport. Any other late starters on here to offer advice? Cheers gary.
