Opps, he lives at approx 150 Meters so 1000 Meter different.

The buyer has now admitted to changing the mix as well (only after I explained I had photos of before and after the sale). He set the screw fully home then turned it out 1.5 turns. He did no other testing as I can see. He thinks that he has richened the mix! He did it because his friend told him to! He says that it was original set to 2.5 turns, I don't know, as I never set it because the plug was always a perfect colour. I live at 850 meters altitude and at home it was perhaps just a "little, tiny tiny" ?? lean (by response) but very marginal if not perfect (by my experiance) at 1100 to 1200 Meter altitude where I always ran it, except for 10 mins going and 5 mins back (its the free wheel down bit), I nearly always used it at quite slow revs appart from blips needed for obsticules, prefering technical difficulty than green lanes etc. Oh and of course the other difference is the change due to the pipe disconnection gearbox to carb that he made?..... Anyone the carb expert? Who would like to make a difinitive statement, it would be appreciated and help me a lot. Thanks ALL!

Hi Jon and All, My fault sorry. On the tank is TXT PRO 03 on the Radiator grill plastic cover is TXXI. (NOT TXTI as I typed). oppps. Had an email late last night from the mechanic saying that the guy (the buyer) admitted he'd changed it! ??? I've no idea why! I tend to think that ourian is correct but I will try and get some info from GG UK today and keep you posted especially about the pipe originally being connected. I do see that on a 07 photo its to atmosphere so I guess either someone befor I bought it changed it or its correct for this particular bike? The bits found in the pump and the pump parts were all cleaned a bit. The impeller has a white stress line in one of the vains so for me I conclude that the pump was running in that the parts got to the pump and if the pump impeller had not been turning because of the threads being stipped then the impeller vain would not have a white stress line mark. The pump seal two lips looked good apart from where the mechanic used a screw driver to remove it. The shaft has two nice clean polished marks where the seal lips run.....Therefore for me the pump was not the cause but probably a symptom. Not sure how I could get the fuel and oil mix tested so I didn't get a sample. Thanks again to all P

BRB, thanks, the head was decarbed about 6 hours run time ago and the head rings were replaced at the same time and head flatness checked. Today when I saw them they were almost non existant and totaly burnt away from the heat. BR phil0925

Hi All, Again... What a story. For me this is turning bizarre! Went to the garage where the bike is and back today total time 6 hours.... Wanted to know if the carb had some pink (oil and water mix) in it and take some more detailed photos......Because the last time that the pump seal went the engine stopped because of the “pink stuff” in the carb ( for sure it wouldn’t burn) ummmmm! it get’s there I guess by way of the gearbox breather, that goes from the gearbox cover to the carb. Guess its a combination of the added liquid level (coolant with the oil) and the heat pressure in the box with the hot coolant, plus the carb suck? In the clear tube you could see the pink. I wanted to do this as “IF” the pump was the original cause of the problem like last time, then the pink in the carb would have cut the engine in a short time and the head and probably other parts would not have been damaged so drastically if at all, like last time! Arrive..... the pipe is cut and another pipe is fitted that goes to atmosphere along with the one that’s been cut! So I ask who had changed the pipes? The “!!!!!! MECHANIC!!!!” says it wasn’t connected and that it’s not important and points to a Honda that has a gearbox pipe that goes to atmosphere (......He insisted that it would never of been connected! P.S this guy is NOT a GG service bloke. I arrive home look at the sales photos taken a couple of weeks ago to advertise the machine and it’s clear that its connected before the bike was taken away.... also in the same photo it seems that the mixture screw is in a different place..........ummm! I looked at some 07 pro photos and it doesn’t seem connected but on mine (250 TXTI pro 03) (yes TXTI?)it was always connected HELP! When was this changed and does the pipe make a difference to the carburetion mix? ..... guess you know where I’m going! (out of me head) J) Think there’s a call to the nice guys at Gas Gas UK tomorrow. PPS. the bits of metal in the pump photo were found in the water pump but the "mechanic"!!!!! says that the pump was the cause as the threads in the plastic impeller were stripped !!!!!!!!!!!! HELL

If you have a weak heart and love your Gas Gas then don't open the attachments!

For the squeel ; Try adding to your servicing a "tiny" drop of oil applied to the shaft end (the end under the ribber cover) "1" drop every 6 mth is enough. Will probably give you a much longer fan motor life. The squeel is just the bearing being a little dry. For my part never wash the bike with a power hose as its death to the suspention articulation as well. If you must be posh a bucket and sponge is much better ) Regards

P.S I don't know why but the "b" (but in brackets) automatically change to a half smilly?? Not my intention at all. Genuinely sorry for the guy having the problem!

Hi All, the young guy who bought the bike did use it the day before, I'm not sure for how long etc. I do feel very sorry that this has happened (a) because I'm a bit sentimental over the bike having had some fantastic times on it. ( because he has this problem. The first time the impeller went I had to push the bike back home through the forrest UMMM OK its a light bike but that's hard work in riding boots up hills and rough ground etc. The local GG dealer (who I bought the bike from) said that the pump impeller was sort of a consumable and implied that they sell quite a few in the course of a year! Like I say I think the origin of the first failure was the inner seal which in a old bike that's a kind of an acceptable failure (10 years old now 8 at the time of the first failure). Thats the reason I bought a complete new pump so as to refurbish the old pump and carry a spare. I spoke with a tech at GG UK to check the fitting procedure just to make sure I hadn't missed something and he confirmed the fitting procedure. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and in fact measured and checked the end float clearance as well on the pump drive shaft and all was good (in the fitting that's not a requirement as I' bought a new complete unit, I also filled the in and out pipes with coolant an kicked it over to confirm the pump was driving and the flow of coolant), he also confirmed that if the pump was not fitted correct or had a problem then it would not have run for 2 hours on a trials piste without showing a problem. I agree with vmeldrew that the bikes is quite bullet proof, but perhaps the pump could be improved a bit as the plastic thread is "perhaps" a bit of a fragile design but for sure must function under "normal operating conditions". The main point for me is that maybe "IF the impeller is a bit fragile then some of you guys may have had the same problem" if so did it fail under a heavy load / use condition? And was it the Thread that stripped on the impeller due to hard riding? Thanks again to you all!

I live in France and it seems that the law holds the seller responsible in that a buyer can return it within one week eg no sale! In this case he has disassembled the engine and is asking me to pay for 50% of the costs saying its a vise caché (hiden know fault!) . This was a genuine bike well maintained and loved. I just didnt have the time to ride. I know it was good! OK its possible that the pump did cause the problem and the impeller has been found broken on 2 occasions now, once with me up the mountains after a 2 hour run and doing a lot of steep work but I think the fault initial problem was the inner pump seal that leaked. In this case its a new pump and while the bike has been stored the engine was often turned over to ensure the seals didn't stick. P.S Really appreciate your help thanks all.

Hi All, would appreciate some help. Sold my Gas Gas TXT Pro 03 250 last friday. Saturday the guy phones me and say the engine is dead. He sent me some pics of the cylinder head which has what looks like a melted hole in it, another pic of the piston which seems to have a piece of metal stuck to it and another pic of the cylinder inside which has a big gouge in it (I think from the metal that is stuck on the piston). The plastic water pump impeller thread is stripped. The old pump impeller had been replace a year before as the thread in that had stripped and coolant had entered the gearbox. The gearbox was flushed and refilled and the head was removed and the gasket seals replaced (decoaked and polished at the same time and found to be in good condition without any marks etc the head flatness was checked and found to be good). The water pump was replaced with a full pre assembled new unit which was replaced with care and attention paid to the drive pin alignment. The bike has had very little use over the last 1.5 years hence the reason for selling. Since the replacement pump repair no coolant has been lost from the system. The bike has been used only once on the local trials piste about 2 hours continuous running and several short run times in Total 5 hours running time without a single problem. The cooling fan switched on and off OK and the engine ran well without any signs of overheating etc. I asked the buyer if he was running fast at the time of the fault (I was refering to the engine speed), missunderstanding my question he replied no as he had only been using second gear. He said he had covered approx 8 kms and had only been running for 30 minutes....... 16 kms /hour for 30 min in second gear ? Does anyone know if extreme overheating can cause the water pump impeller to fail? eg the crank shaft expanding with the excessive heat reducing the pump clearances etc? Are the faults above inline with excessive sustained RPM? Thanks in advance....
