  1. i`ve been told that it could indeed be the crankseal on the ignition side.If the other side goes it apparently blows smoke out, or spits oil out of the breather. Its not doing any of these,so i am going to attemp changing the seal.

Its quite a simple job i`m told, screw some self tappers into the seal, then draw it out. Then oil the new on up and ease it in.

Is it really that simmple?has any of you boys done this job

    Cheers

  2. Hi all, :P

Some of you regular Viewers(?)will know that i have been having problems with my sherco `04 290.The persisting problem is a that it doesnt rev cleanly at lower revs, and the tick over is a bit rough.Open the throttle she will pick up ,then eventually run smooth.

I`ve put a new stator on,tried my mates coil, his carb and his fly wheel, different plugs.Nothing will cure it.Its also on super unleaded as recomended, with the correct oil mix.It does seem better with the choke on,so i played around with mixture screw....still the same

What can be causing this

  3. Might be good idea to make sure the pump is pumping water round the system.I`m not 100% sure but if you run the engine with radiator cap off,you shoul see the water being pumped roun if the pump is working. If its working, might be a good idiea to check the o`ring.

Like the man said, its a quik and cheap job to replace the o`ring,50p and about half an hour...job done.

    Good luck

  4. thats easy enough to try out.My mate has the same bike.

    Cheers :)

In reply to the earlier post,i will check the needle etc, filter is new.Its been like this since i bought it 4 weeks ago the bloke i bought it of says he`s never had trouble, allthough in fairness to him ,he has paid for the new stator.

Do you think the type of oil could cause this?i noticed when i took the carb off,the rubber manifold seemed to have a small puddle of oil behind the bead(the raised bit that fits in the groove on the carb).I`ve got the ratio correct(100mls in 5litres).I`ve been using silkolene pro 2 sx.

    Cheers. :hyper:

  5. hi,i have a `92 gasser which has tubed tyres.Yours be the same?.i would say if your`e good at m/cross tyres, trials should be piece of cake.I changed the m/cross tyre on my lads bike, bloody hardwork compared to a trials tyre.Eveybody has different opinons on tyre brands, but michelins are the best i rekon.

  6. Just fitted a new stator on my sherco 290 `04 beacause of conking out problems.Runs without stopping now.Still a pig to start though when hot :) .Any one got any idea why this could be.Somebody previously mentioned 04`s having weak spark problems.

Now that the damn thing keeps running, another problem has surfaced. The motor is very slightly splutery at low revs, can be a bit tricky `cos if you are climbing a hill,as the revs increase, the splutter goes and you get a bit of a surge of power and the front end comes up if your not ready for it .I`ve cleaned carb out with compressed air etc,set mixture, but no improvment.

Any thougts on that would be appreciated

  7. Did the test ride, things seemed ok,didnt conk out anyway.Still a pig to start though when hot.Any one got any idea why this could be.Somebody previously mentioned 04`s having weak spark problems.

  8. i`m only assuming there are no holes because i have just had to replace my stator on my 04 290,there are no alighnment holes on that. The new stator came with a line scribed on the outside wich lined up with a machined lug.

I had to ring rathmells at harrogate, they were extremely helpfull.Would recomend you do the same if you are having problems.

    cheers,Steve

  9. just make it as difficult as you can to nick`em.I have g clamps holding the garage door shut and always park car close up.at back of garage is a door to the garden.I have a sheet of 3/4 plywood on the inside held with heavy duty fixings.,and the bikes are chained down. Its no guarantee of against theft butnobody can just walk in and wheel`em away, hopefully they`l get p***ed of trying!

  10. my `92 gasgas had a rattle like the one you mention.I replaced the piston with an oversize one and it cured the noise completely :hyper:.

you might get away with replacing one the same size(without the wear).

  11. http://www.sherco-moto.com/downloads/wayne...iming_Guide.pdf

try this link for info on timing. You could use a drill for a pin.Dial gauges can be bought from any good tool shop or engineers merchants, but ther`re not cheap.Might be a good idea to ask your mates, somebody will have one. What you do is measure TDC using the dial gauge, then put the pin through the hole on in the fly wheel,it should match up with a hole in the stator plate.I have an 04,these dont have any alighnment holes,im assumed it stopped at the 03 models.

    Good luck :hyper:

  12. guess what, went out today, bike (sherco 290)conked out aftet half an hour.this is the 3rd time on the bounce this has happened, its the same every time. Also what i discoverde today is that i only get a spark at the plug if i kick the engine over hard.No way will it spark turning engine over with my hand. Its obviously an electrical problem. Please help

  13. Thanks for all that,it probably boils down to having a new bike, which needs a slightly diffrent technique to start it etc and worrying that somethings not right.Ive no doubt cleaning the carb has helped.I went into the garage tonight, and it started 3rd kick again,5 mins later..1st kick,so hopefully thats job done. :)
