  1. Yes, is AMAZING.. I am sort of wondering why folks don't seem to want to give Bou the credit he is due. Fuginami has the same bike and is not exactly dominating. When I watch him ride I am in constant amazement of his talent.
  2. I was wondering the same about lashing the ties together. I think a cheap way could be some galvanized steel bundling straps punch a couple nails through them and tie them together that way. Really large spikes and screws can get expensive fast. I have a dude over here that sells ties for just 4$ a pop delivered so will have to grab some up while I can. I'm thinking a good chainsaw should make short work of cutting ties?
  3. It's all good Biff, was not going to call you out I've been riding a good bit and the finger is good to go now. Clutch still good to go as well so no harm done.
  4. I would have slapped him across the face for saying that.
  5. Awesome! Excited to see you guys and get my trials on.
  6. YUP! Seen it that is what has me wanting to buy a bunch of them. All I have is some logs right now... variety is the spice of life they say. Bent Fenders has some great land for trials and some really cool sections. I've gotten some nice ideas from the good people in Niles as well. Thanks for the link Micheal I see all kinds of cool ideas there, excited to get cracking.
  7. For sure Biff gotta get out and ride with you guys again! I keep practicing, been riding with some good peeps from Niles and I am learning lots. Am riding Metamora on the 7th, excited to see what it's all about.
  8. Hey guys I have 5 acres (adjacent to 20 more I can use as I please) in the country and I am wanting to expand my home trials training riding area. I'm going to buy a few hundred (or more) railroad ties and am looking for ideas on how to use them to build some cool stuff to ride on. I have a skid steer at my disposal and all the soil I can use as well. Anyone have any ideas for some cool stuff I could build to ride on? Also any ideas for other stuff to use? Some ideas I have from seeing other stuff; Huge tires oil / water tanks concrete culverts logs pallets thinking maybe one of those across ocean shipping container also.... If anyone has any cool ideas for sections and challenges I am all ears.
  9. I'm glad too! Appreciate the replies was a little nervous thinking I might miss another meet due to a broken bike. Excited to enter my first event, every time I get the chance to ride with others I get more into the sport.
  10. Changed the oil again, put the springs back in and it's good to go Rode for quite some time again tonight and the slipping is totally gone so happy about that. The clutch does actually feel better than it did even with the springs in before, the old fluid looked so bad I wonder if it had ever been changed. Guess my clutch finger better suck it up and get with the program.
  11. I've been told by several people that this was an effective way to ease the learning curve with clutch control, extend ride times before wrist wears out, etc. I can also point to plenty of posts here where others are saying the same. some conflicting information here it seems. Really? I'd hate to see what a heavy pull feels like. I can put the springs back and change the oil again this evening but It was NOT slipping at the beginning of my last ride even in the higher gears. It seems to me the clutch was damaged / burnt? during the 2 hours of slow clutchy riding. I would not be surprised if it still slips but will see I guess. Worst case I can put a new clutch in it.
  12. I was told it can be helpful to pull 2 opposing springs in the clutch pack so I did that the other day. I also changed the gearbox fluid, it was pretty nasty, I filled it with 450cc of maxima 75 weight gear oil as recommended. I've done a few rides with some folks lately and it was very apparent to me that I need to re-focus on the basics and get my clutch control low speed control down. I spent about 2 hours yesterday riding tight circles in second gear, riding as slow as possible, etc. I was very light on the throttle, not revving it at all trying to balance as much as possible. I really like the feel of the clutch -2 springs but on my ride tonight I noticed the clutch was slipping noticeably. Its bad enough that I can not break the rear tire loose in 3rd gear on the lawn. I was under the impression a person could not wear these clutches out, am I wrong? The clutch was absolutely not slipping at the beginning of that first ride with the springs pulled. I'm a new rider and I won't be using 3rd anytime soon but I do have some trials meets coming up soon. An unfamiliar clutch would probably make things difficult for me I am thinking. Should I replace the clutch or could it just be glazed up from my abusing it? My clutch lever is set up so it engages deep in the travel close to fingers (plenty of room left before the full release) Any opinions, or tricks I am not aware of? Thanks
  13. I have a 10t sprocket on the way as well, the old one was well worn that is the only reason I was looking for one in the first place. I was recently reading another tread where someone said most with sherco's do drop to 9 teeth and that is why I ordered it in addition to the 10. I know I need more time on the bike, I have a lot of respect for the skills required to do this well. I do appreciate and listen to the advice you guys give me, I've taken the bark busters off as well
  14. Have one on the way from Tryals Shop thanks for the info guys.
  15. Yeah I hear you I have a new regina on the way but I also have a new 9t front coming (stock is 10) and want to be able to adjust it correctly. Just planning ahead so I can ride as I need to be practicing because I suck.
  16. Anyone know where I can get a half link for my sherco chain? I did not see one at RYP and I think I will need one. My chain was too lose even at max adjust, I removed a link and now it's too short..... I think I could probably get one from Mcmaster Carr but I am not sure what size the chain is, can anyone help? It's a regina chain 2004 2.9.
  17. Had an awesome time riding with Biff and the a few others from WGASA club last weekend! A few little tips right off the bat helped me a bunch, lever position, clutch engagement point, bending the knees, letting the bike move around you and some other stuff, it all adds up. Very glad to get the chance to get some input on my technique (of lack of it) so I can correct and move on in a better direction. I about puked up a lung or 5 before we were done, I knew I was outta shape but damn... I need to lose about 40 lbs for sure this weekend kinda nailed that idea shut for me so sure that will help. I still feel like the suspension could help me but it kinda became apparent to me that if you do things the right way you don't need it as much as I thought. I was feeling pretty crappy about not being able to hop yet and was wondering if maybe it was my bike holding me back. I guess that is not as easy as all you experienced folks make it look to be. Was a great time for sure, excited to get back again.
  18. Hey guys I have a 2004 2.9 with stock springs. I'm a bigger dude at 6'4 and pretty heavy at 300lbs way way over normal skinny euro guy weight. The more I learn/ride the more I realize how important timing is and using the suspension to help make things happen. Back when I rode motocross it was pretty easy to get my suspension done because the suspension shops knew how to set the bike up for guys like me. No one knows crap about trails bikes here or how to set them up, esp for a 300 pounder. Is this something that would be of use to me and if so any suggestions on how to go about it? I ride for fun but I don't mind spending money to have my bike match my body as much as possible.I expect to stay at this for many more years and would like to get my bike matched for me any suggestions on where to start? Tnx
  19. Proper stator shipping out in the morning. Hopefully this time it won't sit in Chicago for 10 days. Sigh... Hopefully I will make the next meet.
  20. Close... they are squished apart. Here is what happened. In hindsight I probably should have seen this coming but the harness on the replacement stator had a kink in it at the right place where it exits the case to suggest it had been used mounted like this before. There IS some clearance here but apparently not enough. Now that I think of it that casting may be different on another year of bike so my justification for even trying to use it may be wrong. I guess I need to get the right type of stator coming as I am not seeing an easy way to solve this. Will hold off on the Honda purchase, sorry Sherco looks like this one is on me.
  21. Appreciate the offer. The spark was noticeably stronger with the new stator so I'd guess that rules out the flywheel magnets? Cope you may be onto something as there is an issue with the harness on this new stator exiting on the other side of the stator than my original stator did. I had some concern for this initially as it does create a bit of a pinch point. I'll post some pics and investigate further into that.
  22. I still had the old stator that was testing OK on the ohm meter so I put that one back on. I then had a spark but it was very weak. The bike will start on this original stator but it won't stay running and runs very poorly similarly to how it ran before this whole mess started. I was careful not to pinch any wires in the harness for each stator during the removal and refit. At this point I can conclude the old CDI was likely fine as it did not want to run with the old stator and new CDI. I am guessing I am sitting on 2 bad stators at this point. Sigh.... Will get them off to splatshop for testing.
  23. Checked the new stator and found an issue with the last 2 readings. I'm not sure what it means but considering the bike is not making ANY spark and the numbers are way off it's looking like my new stator went bad already. The CDI is new as well, the bike was running great just a few hours ago. Recommended values in black, mine are in red; Blue no reading (sometimes shown as 1 or error) 1 Brown 1000 to 1600 1962 Black 1050 to 1650 1927 Using the leads the other way around i.e. black lead to the coloured wires, red to earth. Blue 600 to 730 648 Brown 650 to 770 748 Black 650 to 770 708 Also test the resistance's of the other coil wires, leads either way around. White to red 95 ohms 86 Red to green 550 ohms 1 Green to white 640 ohms 1
  24. Maybe not... Bike is broken again.... Took it for a ride this evening ran like a top. Shut it off to take a small break kicked it over and it would not start. Took it in the building pulled the plug shut all the doors turned off the light kicked it over no spark. Changed the plug no spark disconnected kill switch no spark reset and re cleaned chassis ground no spark I'm digging deeper but it's not looking good. I am thinking this Sherco is going to be replaced with a Honda in short order if I keep dealing with this crap. Very frustrating...
  25. It's looking like I will make it, my dad is going to go with me. I'll make sure to say hello. -Mark
