  1. www.suttonfalcons.com as soon as they are available - bear with us. Steve Shaw has to go through all 180 punch cards and work out section by section scores (ACU requirement apparently?) before juggling them around into classes and positions - that's as well as trying to earn a crust in his day job!
  2. It was OK for us mere mortals. You can never win with setting out sections - the team set out in heavy rain and it was much harder. Even with an eye on a decent forecast you can never judge how much the land will dry out (which it did) Plus there was such a varied mix of talent - from trials gods to trials numpties (me) so you can't win- but for the majority, a lot of whom were on classic bikes - it was about right - enjoyable, testing dry and fun in beautiful surroundings. As Neil Gaunt said - Any day out riding your bike is a bonus.
  3. Well the weather held up after a misty start on top of the moor. There seemed to be plenty of smiling faces, so I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did?
  4. Worry ye not - all the sections are set out - around 90 entrants and the clerk is more than happy with the venues.
  5. Can't see that you will have any problem with finding accommodation on spec at this time of the year in that area - plenty of places within 'striking distance' - look forward to seeing you.
  6. Have 18 observers at the moment, be nice to have at least 4 or five more volunteers. Entries also looking acceptable but would be nice to have some more local riders coming along to support us in the non championship classes (modern bikes) Last week - entries close 7 Sept - all details on the club website.
  7. Gone mate - lost all decent land cos of riders with loud exhausts...... Just kidding - lighten up, you just touched on a raw subject thats all...........
  8. You just answered your own question. The manufacturer will initially provide you with a product which is a basic, user friendly, universal set up for what they consider to be a 'standard' rider - there to be tweaked and moulded to your personal preference. The flywheel weight is merely a tunable 'option' - otherwise it wouldn't be removable! If it didn't feel better you could put it back - likewise if you try a Dunlop instead of a Michelin or a slow throttle - etc, ad infinitum..........
  9. No. its just a hard plastic spacer - the outer cover is same recessed shape.
  10. Should have said - just to the two screws rather than the whole flywheel weight.
  11. The flywheel weight is really tight - try to apply some local heat to it (i used a blowtorch with a small nozzle and shielded the cavity to the electrics) then shock it with an impact driver or air wrench. Don't forget that when the weight is removed you can put the cover back on minus the plastic spacer which has the bonus of making the engine width smaller.
  12. Thanks, but it really is looking good - think we are about there.
  13. Looking good for observers - just over two weeks to closing date...........
  14. Flywheel weight removal (removes the over-run - more zippy - same traction) Trialcast rear brake boot protector (looks nicer - prevents wear on the
  15. Let me guess 'dude' you live in central Arizona right? (or somewhere just as remote) Noise is less of an issue there maybe than here in crowded blighty where our sport is genuinely at risk. It is about choice - an important one - use a noisy exhaust and put another nail in the coffin of off road motorcycling in the uk or go quiet and give us a few more years enjoying our sport. Do-gooder post - hahahahahaha -
  16. Your 'tight' and my 'tight' will be a million miles out - to the detriment of many who have stripped vital threads. As you are just starting out, I'd always advise the use of a torque wrench (cylinder head - brakes - axle - steering etc) and if you don't have manufacturer specific information, look at some other manufacturer for thier torque settings for the same parts which won't be too far out for other bikes.
  17. As well as the championship classes, there will also be a cracking hard and clubman route for guest riders. The club section plotters have already made a start and report that all the streams are running well in the rocky Derbyshire venues being used. As usual for most clubs we are short of a few observers for the event, so if there are any volunteers - or if anyone intending to ride can supply an observer, please ring Steve SHAW on 07718 512173. Riders providing such an observer will be eligible for a substantial discount on the entry fee and all observers will receive a cash gift to use for refreshments or travelling expenses. Entry forms and regs can be accessed on the club website at www.suttonfalcons.com Closing date 7 SEPT.
  18. Correct. Im sure the general public and those that might otherwise let us use thier land also think the 4rt 'sounds awesome' without restrictors. NOT. Ill give you an example. Close to where I live is a small derelict sand quarry within half mile of a housing estate. Trial riders and motocrossers on two strokes have practiced in there for years without complaint - basically because the sound of the bikes never carried far enough to disturb anyone. With the popularity of the four stroke bikes, the sound is horrendous and carries into the estate - net result being that the residents are ringing the cops and council every five minutes to complain. As a result of this it is now nigh on impossible to ride there without hassle and the landowner is considering levelling it. Imagine the same scenario in a national park where rambling hiker types can hear the bikes for miles around - not good. I know of at least one practice area where only the 4rt is not welcomed. Sorry to hijack the thread - but we ignore this at our peril - leave the restrictors in.
  19. Probably next best thing to asking Don Smith (RIP) is to ask Richie Sunter who was also a KT works rider and is still about in the Yorkshire centre. I would think he's easily contactable through the Richmond MC.
  20. I find that the biggest factor is hydration. Its amazing how much fluid loss you have lugging the bike around a trial and I found my performance dropped off markedly on the last two loops and also travelled home with a headache down to dehydration. If you only take fluid on during an occasional trip back to the car after each lap, you can never equally replace the amount lost through effort. I have found a massive difference using a camelbak hydration system on the event, filled not only with water, but include an electrolyte sports additive to replace salts etc lost from the body when sweating heavily.

  23. Utter garbage. Barnsley trials are some of the most sensible and enjoyable events out there. Its not just the event but also the organisers and local personalities that make them fantastic days out. Myself and other mates travel further than necessary and well out of centre to attend where we can.
  24. In association with BOR and rideoffroaduk - 28 September at Norwood. See website for details www.suttonfalcons.com
