Today, two of us set out ten sections for a round of the centre championship.
Considering the time of year and the amount of undergrowth that needed cutting, chopping and clearing - plus the amount of thought going into each section for three vastly different range of abilities - plus health and safety considerations - it was six hours of very hard work (considering that you are completely knackered when you finish)
That means its your complete weekend (including the actual trial) accounted for. For guys that work hard during the week and then also have the normal family / home commitments - thats some undertaking that I don't think is ever appreciated.
I don't think that the majority of those that turn up to ride then go straight home ever really appreciate the effort that goes in to organising a trial?
If there had been six of us - we'd have had time for a pint at lunchtime AND been home in time to do things with the kids. Think about it next time your club appeals for help!

Just got back from setting out the sections at Norwood with Steve SHAW
Despite a few showers, the going is quite dry and the sections have been set out along the side of the course to keep riders out of any notorious Norwood gloop in the middle and bottom of the woods.
There's some nice open climbs over tricky roots with lots of space to ride and excellent routes for beginners and anyone else just wanting a dead easy ride.
The weather forecast is good, so hopefully we'll see you there tomorrow
(I hope so cos we bust a gut for the best part of six hours on my day off today)

you bstrd - my macbook just got a liberal splutter of glenmorangie............

Ha - what else - he could have done the easy route on a unicycle - even after all this time, a world ranked rider wouldn't worry too much about hard sections in a club trial.
Had the pleasure of speaking with him and seeing him ride at the weekend - its a privelige watching a trials genius at close quarters - instantly took me back quarter of a century. Nice bloke too.
-
For information - the event has been changed - BACK to its original date - Sunday 13 July 2008.
Sorry for any confusion and hope to see some of you there for a great day out.
-
Mate - you will have it.
As far as I'm concerned, these blokes are legends. I was a local teenager absolutely mesmerized by what they could do on a motorbike. Bruce, Ted and Rob are the reason I have been hooked on trials for 38years and had the privilige of riding amongst them as a schoolboy whilst they were in thier prime (ish)
How did you know them? and are you coming for a pint?

Hi folks
The Sutton Falcons are based in the Ashfield area of Nottinghamshire with a main venue at Norwood at Teversal and others in neighbouring Derbyshire. The club run the national Rosebowl trial and have been in existence since at least 1920.
Up until now the club have never had a presence on the web - check out our new website at www.suttonfalcons.com
There's a photo competition - just for fun - send us your trials based photo (action, artistic or funny)
Anyone wishing to join us are more than welcome - we need the support of our local riders.
The website is a first effort by a complete novice. Are we in the right ballpark? Is it the type of site you will go back to? Is there anything else you would like to see? -
Your constructive criticism would be appreciated.

I can't hop. If I stop for more than a couple of seconds, its because Im off line and frantically scrapping to regain my balance before I resume to continue getting a five. Please don't give me a five before I properly deserve one a few moments later. Thanks.
PS
The pope is not even close to being 'the main man' ever. I have never seen him on a trials bike.
PPS
Whisky is nice. Hic.

Must have been a duffer with a mucky carb. They will pull your arms off from nothing in the first four gears...........clean as a whistle.
-
classic case of - not broke, don't fix! - but yes they are resting on their laurels.
It still holds up more than adequatly against the competition, but I do agree that the factory could move forwards with some new ideas / designs that could increase thier market share by producing something just as radical as it they did in 2000.

Well said feetupfun. Im currently restoring a Mk2 Ossa MAR, and yes it is a labour of love.
Im sure the engine alone weighs more than my 08 Beta and some parts can be hard to source. BUT, its fun searching for that elusive part and seeing the old girl getting a new lease of life, especially when that bike holds so many fantastic memories of my youth and starting to ride trials - watching my heroes like Mick Andrews working thier magic on them.
And who says they arn't competitive anymore. They still hold there own in the twinshock series..........
I love riding modern trials, but the old OSSA for me just has a.....soul, that modern bikes don't have.
-
Only if you don't already have the respective clymer manual. The book is just a reprint of the old manual for the bikes featured.
-
....Like the cut of your jib....welcome....mines a PJ1 and coke...see you hopping around soon
-
Thanks guys - I have looked on the beta page and through the manual - only figures I could find were for the fork yokes.
I have a new bike and want to check the cylinder head after its 'run in' Bit of a stickler for the right torque settings - Ill give Lampkins a ring.
-
Anyone have a list (or link to) of torque settings for the rev3?
-
Looks like you have the standard 240 pro yokes. Most owners swapped these for the 200 version which were set more forward. May have been changed by a 200 owner who for some strange reason prefered the further back position of the 240???

You should have just ignored the helicopter - too expensive / busy for them to hang around for long on that job.
The cops on the ground would also have been loathe to get off thier asses to walk around the quarry after you and would also be off on another more urgent call after a few minutes watching you.....
You made it too easy for them....
Carry on regardless.
