  1. Based on your part of the description that said 'No matter what I did with the mix screw, it would 'bog down' with anything more than a fraction of throttle and not turn over without the choke or 1/8 of accelerator.', I'd say you've got a clogged pilot circuit. Pull the carb apart, blast the internal carb passages (not just the jet) with carb cleaner, and put it back together and see if that makes a difference.
  2. I think James is sick of rain and gloom... I'd rather ride in Spain too.
  3. Forks are always by level. Make sure you stroke the damping rod and the fork leg to get all the air out before measuring.

    Leaded fuel?

    Well aware, thanks.

    Leaded fuel?

Anyone run leaded fuel in the vertigo? Is be a little concerned given all the sensors. I ask because it's difficult in my location to get ethanol free unleaded. The solution to this point has been to mix leaded race gas and ethanol pump gas to bring the ethanol down to 5%. If I can't run leaded in a vertigo (and I'd be inclined not to) I'd have to run it 10% ethanol pump gas.
  6. I think the modern Gaerne's are horrible. They feel like sneakers... very comfortable for walking around, but no arch support at all. Sidi's didn't fit me correctly, so I went with Alpinestars Tech-T. If you want something cheaper you can find a lot of the old models (No Stops) at a reduced price right now.
  7. Haha... that was my other fear confirmed.
  8. Yeah, that rule exists most places. I'm not talking about keeping a 'spare' around for during an event, I'm talking about putting a ton of time on a practice bike and keeping the competition bike relatively fresh. Then come next season, the previous season's race bike becomes the practice bike and you replace the previous year's practice bike, which becomes the new race bike... if you follow Anyway, not something most folks will bother with, I'm just curious since I've already put a whole season's worth of hours on my new GG over the winter.
  9. The usual fork guards that fit everything else will work for the Vertigo. The only other thing I've seen people run is an exhaust pipe guard (which may be a cut down version from another bike, not sure), but that's more to save your pants than the bike.
  10. Curious if anyone who competes seriously (in any class) runs more than one bike, as in two of the same or nearly same machine, one for practice, one for race. I guess a lot of the vintage guys might by default But I was more curious about modern machinery.
  11. Generally, 'all serviced' just means they changed the oil every so often and, if you're lucky, cleaned the air filter. Always assume a used bike has been treated like garbage. Change the coolant once a year.
  12. What do you mean by 'suspect bike maintenance'? Like Billy is responsible for his own bike and he's not looking after it, or... ?
  13. Yeah, it's not like anything besides kittens and fairies comes out the back of a 4 stroke.
  14. Wow. Where are the front down tubes on that thing?!? I'd be afraid of smashing the cylinder on something.
  15. Follow Toni on Instagram. There's something being posted all the time of him doing something seemingly impossible.
  16. The listed dimensions are wrong then. I run one on all my bikes. It's maybe 1x2 inches, it mounts to the side of the radiator easily.

  18. All manufacturers specify that kind of engine work: piston rings every ~80 hours, piston every 200, or whatever they happen to call out. The reality is that nobody I know of does it. My local dealer suggests a piston and rings every 500 hours, and I've not yet kept a bike long enough to get there (I do ~200 hours a season or so). I have put north of 300 hours on several bikes, and the motor is the last thing any of them needed work done to. Unless you're riding at a very high level I wouldn't worry about it.
  19. That's a bummer. Beta has always offered a six month warranty, and now gasgas is doing the same.
  20. So do you guys not have a work requirement in your local clubs? Around here, if you're competing for championship points, you have to work one event, which generally means checking.
  21. I can't argue with that... the welds on my 2017 GG are pretty awful. Compared to how well done the TRS welds are it's a bit sad. But for whatever reason I really enjoy riding the GG, so I overlook its failings. Every make has some.
  22. I don't know.... Every section I ride, I say 'thanks' after the checker punches my card. I don't give a eulogy on my last lap. When I'm checking I don't expect anything, though a thank you certainly doesn't go unappreciated.
  23. Don't worry, I'm not offended. Fwiw, in my local club here, I've never seen or heard of a gasgas cracked frame. Or a failed transmission. Gasgas was probably the best represented brand around here for a long time and still has a big user base. Lots of guys on 2010 and newer bikes. The beta is great too.
