Peter Purves might be able to help - seriously. I dropped him an email a while back about this topic raised on TC back in 2005. I got very nice reply direct from him - not his agent or anybody else, but from him personally. Came across as a really nice bloke who was genuinely interested and he updated his website to include a link to the topic. His contact details are on www.peterpurves.com.

And there was me thinking this was a "swap" ad

TBH, it's nothing to do with Jake. The system was being abused by certain European "journalists" - signing on for press passes then giving them to their kids/mates so they could get in the corridor, trying to sign on after we'd gone out to do our work etc. This way makes it easier for everybody (though they still try and abuse it!)

The last time the Yanks hit the Ardennes in force it was snowing so a little rain won't harm you I just wonder what a nice quiet, tiny peaceful country like Luxembourg is gonna make of Craig!
You do have your press application in, don't you? They're not given out on the day any more. Pre-registration is required. (Not kidding, BTW)

The speed the net is closing in on "monkey" he might not have a choice
Trials Central is far bigger than people think and folk are far less anonymous than they might think. Looking at a user's posting history and comparing comments posted after an event and event results along with type of bike it is generally very easy to find out who a Forum user is - regardless of how anonymous they think might think their username is...

The Richmond detective is out on the case. It looks like "softly softly catchy monkey"...
-
When Supporter status is renewed they show as a new member. F*** knows why.
-
I don't think you've convinced anybody and only dug your hole deeper.
Wouldn't blame Richmond if they pulled your entry for suggesting there were irregularities in their ballot process and you bringing the Club into disrepute...
-
This is one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on TC (and that's saying something...) Whether there's truth in it or not, it's deliberately aimed at upsetting those who didn't get an entry to what everybody knows is a very popular event. I'd delete it, but it's too late. The damage is done. I'll leave the rest of the Trials community to tear you a new one...
-
It would break the rules and make me get the pokey stick out. If you want to discuss these things, by all means do it by personal message, but no advertising is the unbreakable rule

You already have an existing topic on this - directly below this one.

Clashed with an Italian Championship round as per last week's report - "This was Dabill

Gas Gas Pro SSDT check list.
1. Check spokes in both front & rear wheels for tightness as they may have worked loose since first being checked.
2. Fit new MICHELIN tyres on the front and back. The heat generated on the road destroys tyres and only Michelins stand the abuse. You can get the whole week out of one rear tyre but we recommend using two. We also recommend using a thicker Enduro inner tube in the front.
3. Repack your silencer with some good quality packing wool. (We recommend SILENTSPORT). It

Blimey - I go away for a couple of days and come back to a three page topic on this! If only people were as observant when it came to reading the rules when they sign up as they are to spotting a wee graphic under their username!
To clarify and expand on what Ian said. This "feature" is part of the Forum software. Initially it wasn't used, then as more and more users sign up and appear to click "I accept the Rules" without actually reading them it was brought in behind the scenes to let us track offenders who break the one rule on this site that is absolutely enforced and that is NO SELLING and it was brought in because it was said it was unfair to ban someone after just one post who might not have read the rules. My take on that is more fool them. The rules might say they sign over their house and worldly goods to me and if they accept them without reading them then so be it However, this is a compromise. It's an "Everybody is entitled to one mistake" compromise. Advertise something for sale and a warning is issued. That takes a user to a 50% warning level. Do it again and it's another 50%. 100% means the account is automatically banned. The little boxes don't mean anything.
I don't think we're hard on this Forum and the rules are fair and clear. No selling or wanted ads as we provide a FREE alternative - and no bloody text talk. Apart from that, it's a very easy-going Forum. Warnings will not be issued for Wanted Ads, but the posts will be deleted and the user privately directed to the Classifieds. Warnings won't be issued for text talk either unless the user seriously fails to get the message after being told privately.
For 99.9% of you this won't make a blind bit of difference. It's the n00bs who sign up without reading the rules who will be affected.

The answer to this is obvious. Both are elderly and suffering from Alzheimers so the answer is no. They'd forget why they were there and both probably pee themselves.

Which user of Trials Central has aspirations to play the lead role of gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain II?
If you had 100 bottles of vodka and took away 75 of them, how many did HL drink?
How many times has Slapshot3 got a weather forecast correct?
When was the last time Dougie Lampkin bought a round? (To the closest decade will do!)

Since when did we start talking Yank? The word is LICENCE dammit!

You don't have access to the info I do. I know you want a dogs bollocks server hosted in your living room, but I have to be realistic...

Kill the porn downloads and things will improve
I did optimise the databases today and things have improved a bit. I'm 90% certain it's people searching that's doing it. Searching is VERY resource hungry.

Scots aren't civilised gay enough to understand Cricket

You're just kissing ass to secure that SSDT press pass I still have to respond to your PM, but I'm buggered if you two are getting hotel rooms when I can't find one

Dabster is pretty much right in his comments (We'll let him off with getting the Rathmell lass wrong. It's Carly who does the promo stuff, not Sonia!)
However to say it is not "front page news" is totally wrong. It was, and still is. Rappers pretty much dedicated his column to it last week and there has been extensive follow-up and discussion on it in the relevant forum - which makes me think you're a Cumbrian plant on behalf of the promoter
I'm absolutely not adverse to a UK World round in 2009. TC exists to promote the sport, but I do feel we're jumping the gun somewhat. The FIM have said "UK or France" in their press release and the venue still has to pass homologation. I know that's very tough due to the excessive demands made by the factories so it might not even happen. The costs in providing generators alone would scare you senseless... There have also been no press releases by the promoter that I've seen. I don't have time to chase news.
As far as it not being L&M goes - I will say that I enjoyed an excellent and professional relationship with L&M during their three years of UK World rounds. I provided them with extensive promotion and they, in return, allowed Trials Central section sponsorship at Hawkstone and provided the marquee, fencing and security etc for our Trials Central get-togethers. No money changed hands, but it was a fantastic working relationship that continued to grow over three years.
I have advised the promoter of this proposed event that it is way too early to think about these things, but if everything goes to their plans and they want to put a formal promotional deal in place with Trials Central then we can look at that nearer the time. I do hope it happens, but think it's too early to be jumping up and down about it.

I really do appreciate the nice things people are saying, but you won't be saying that in a few months time if things go on like this! This is a relatively quiet time on TC. Once we get into the major league events like the SSDT and World Outdoor and all the extra content like photos and video that they bring and all the extra interest they generate, as things stand right now the site will grind to a halt. That is very worrying. However, it's not insurmountable. Just need to do a bit of planning.

She cannae take it Captain! I noticed myself she was running like a dog earlier so did some monitoring...
That is a tad worrying on a Saturday evening which isn't one of the busiest times. Processor should never run that high. I'm going to take the forums offline tomorrow afternoon and do some optimising of the databases.
It's okay to criticise when you're asked to criticise

You guys amaze me. How the hell can you get down to model/year level from two crap photos of a serious wreck of a bike? It's like the Trials equivalent of train spotting! However, you clearly know your stuff and respect for that. I'm just amazed anyone can derive anything from the photos.
