I received that parts book which Stuart kindly sent me. It will prove very useful as time goes on. And time will go on, you know what they say, big bodies move slowly! There has been no ensuing litigation so far! Larry 2.

Thanks Guys, I'm going to start work on sealing the inside of the tank first. I may consider getting a professional to finish the outside. The bike came to me many years ago with the cap fitted, I'm not sure why. thanks again, Larry 2.

Sent off the fork tubes for hard chroming. They're due for collection this week, hope they work out. I'll post pics so you guys can tell me what you think. Another area I need some guidance on is the fibreglass tank. It has multiple star cracks which have to be dealt with. Any advice on the way to repair these would be welcome. Also, would you guys recommend replacing the fuel filler cap with an original type (if available) Ta, in advance. Larry 2.
  5. Hello guys, Happy New Year to all! How do you guys keep your workshops so organised! Mine is a disaster area, always was. If I posted a picture of it I'd be arrested! Larry 2.

    Model 10 Frame

Blutaco, I also have a Model 10. There are pictures of the frame on my Old Bultaco post if they are any use to you. If you want I can take measurements for you of the areas you require. Good luck with it. Larry 2.

Hello Guys, Getting kinda back in gear after second knee replacement. Cleaned and scrubbed down the frame with stuff called Phos-Kleen surface preparation and then painted it with silver Epoxy Mastic 121. Not that happy with the result, some brush marks, probably didn't use enough thinners, I'm not great with paint anyway. Tips on brush painting welcome even at this late stage! Have to wait two weeks for it to cure and then I'll rub it down and try again. Ho, Hum! (Think's,) must get the fork tubes up to the chrome people. Larry 2.

Thanks Stuart, To be fair, the company outlined the process just as you have explained it. In addition, £150 equates to €211. So time for a rethink. This company is the only one here that carry out hard chroming and if I were to get it done in the UK carriage would be a significant cost. I think I'll follow it up and see how I get on. I would like the original tubes anyway if I can, as my instinct is towards preservation rather than restoration as I think an old vehicle should tell a story. Thanks again, Larry2.

Larry, Yes, I thought it was a tad expensive. I had checked online re. model 10 fork tubes but found nothing. I'll check M85 Alpinas and see what turns up. Thanks for the guidance. BTW, getting the other knee done on Monday week! Larry2.

Checked out a chroming company a couple of weeks back but they couldn't do hard chroming. They kindly referred me to others who could. I was quoted 180 euro for the two fork tubes. How does that sound to you guys? Larry 2.
  12. Trailie, yep, its 2mm alright. I agree the stays in the pic look better. Larry2.
  13. Trailie, The stay on my Sherpa is kinda similar but I found they break easily. Anyway I'll post a pic and a ( poor) drawing with measurements if it's any good. Larry 2.

Larry, Must confess I haven't done anything yet. I have a tendency to long finger stuff and also get sidetracked into other things I'm afraid. I intend to check out rechroming before looking for replacements as I have come across a company that does it over here. To be honest, I'm not sure if I could identify the correct ones on ebay but that will be the route if the chroming works out too expensive. Bult360, Thanks for that info, The pedal was not fitted when I got the bike back in the day as the rear inner brake was busted. I used the bike with only a (poor) front brake for the duration. As Senor Buggatti said, I make cars to go, not to stop!
  15. Thanks for that Larry. I'm still hanging around! Trouble is, there's gardening and outside work to do now that we're moving into summer. Also had to replace the exhaust system on my Triumph Herald which became complicated as these things do on old vehicles. Anyway, from what you say, I will have to line my tank in the same way as it is fibreglass. What product did you use? Larry 2.

Folks, ' Anyone know if this brake pedal is standard for a '68 Sherpa? It came with the bike back when I acquired it early seventy's. The colour is due to a coat of Fe 123 for rust.
  17. Larry, That looks like a pretty good job! Tell me, whats the reason for wrapping the tank? I'm not really up to speed on painting at that level. What's the procedure? BTW, I'm impressed with that compressor and pillar drill! Larry 2

Hello guys, More advice needed. I attach photo's of the front forks and innards. Two questions, there is corrosion on the tubes, are replacements required or could I rechrome, or just put up with them the way they are? The other pic is of the innards the ends of which seem to be brazed. Is this normal or were they altered in some way? I've sent off the engine, and various bits and pieces to be soda blasted so we'll see how that turns out. Larry.

Hello Guys, Instead of fitting spares to the bike these past weeks. I've had a spare part fitted to my knee in the form of a lump of titanium called a knee replacement! All going well so far. Haven't been able to do anything with the bike in the meantime but I should be back at it in due course. On another topic, I was having difficulty logging on in common with some others. Just downloaded Google Chrome and now all seems well. Larry.
  21. Must say Woody that's a pretty good analysis of how to go. Larry.
  22. Best of luck Robbiesty if you take on the project. I'm in the same boat myself although at this stage for me there's no going back. I do have the advantage of good engine though. On the positive side, you have youth on your side. Think you will have to get the hammer to the piggy bank though! Larry.

Giles, You could possibly be right. Trouble is I don't know the history of the bike right now. I might come across the guy who gave it to me at some stage and find out something. Did a tot on all the stuff I'll need to get it back to kinda where it should be and my eyes began to water! This project could take a while. The engine/ gearbox wont be too bad but the rest....... Larry.

Guys, Just a couple of pics of the carb, which is an IRZ which, reading the posts here would be hard to get parts for, although there doesn't seem to be much wear in evidence. Also the magneto which I assume can be wired for lights although there were never lights on it as far as I know. Were lights fitted when new? Larry.
