  1. GTL technology may sound interesting, but I think manufacturers of trials bikes (such as GasGas) have more important issues at the top of their agenda just at the moment i.e. keeping out of administration!
  2. Enjoyed reading through this thread. My experience has some similarities to Fastbelly. I last rode trials on a 350 Montesa over 25 years ago. In a mid life crisis I recently bought an very fresh '09 TXT PRO 300 Gasser. What a bloody culture shock! I simply couldn't believe the level of power on tap, and the fierce delivery of the power. First few times out I was scared of the beast. With a few practice sessions and one trial under my belt, I feel I'm slowly getting to grips with it. The best tip I received for riding this bike was to use very little throttle, and so it is that with throttle little more than cracked open it climbs and pulls like a train! Little throttle = little wheelspin. Be interested to hear how your getting on with yours since fast belly.
  3. Hit it with the power washer (won't do it any harm so long as its dried off straight away and not left). Dunk it in a tub of light oil / gear oil overnight. Drip dry overnight. Back onto bike with a wipe with a rag to remove any remaining surplus.
  4. Managed to find a couple of photos from the clubs Facebook. This is my first go at posting photos so hope they work. Since had a look at our official results. I managed 14th out of 45 in Grade C. Chuffed to bits for a first effort. Thats me on the left and bro-in-law on right.
  5. Well what a day we had on Saturday. Huge entry of 159 split between grades A B C & Youth. I have to say the sections were much easier than I was expecting so there was no nasty / intimidating / dangerous stuff, which made it all great fun, especially for us beginners. 4 laps of 10 well spread out sections. We arrived at 10am for an 11am start. After a lengthy queue for signing on (where we were made feel most welcome), there was a lot of waiting around, warming up, practicing, and it could be argued general time wasting. We didn't realise we could have been off to section 1 long before we did. Now I don't want this to sound like a moan but there was only two things all day I didn't enjoy; 1 The wait at some of the sections was very lengthy. I suppose this was largely due to the size of the entry, a victim of its own success if you like, and 2, The guys who were jumping the queue and pushing in. I did manage to get all 4 laps completed, though my brother-in-law only managed 3 - partly due to how slow it was with the waiting, and partly due to fatigue. At the end of the day we were there first and foremost for a fun day out and it didn't really matter about scores. Having said that it was a pleasant surprise to complete the whole trial with a loss of just 12 marks, and no 5's. As you can imagine, we now can't wait for our next outing.
  6. My other sport is golf. If someone is determined to cheat it's not hard to do - but why? As others have already said you're only cheating yourself. If on the other hand what happened was unknown to the rider, then let it go. In the absence of an observer for every rider, the score in good faith of the rider should be good enough.
  7. Glad it all went well for you and most importantly - you had fun and want to do it all again. My brother-in-law and myself have our first event tomorrow - mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation. since getting our bikes we've only been out 4 times (2 hours each time) but we've decided to take the plunge with the aim first and foremost of enjoying ourselves. I have to thank everyone on this forum for the many helpful posts and tips. Will hopefully have some feedback tomorrow evening - don't know who's gonna be able to take photos though!
  8. I'm a 53 y.o. 15 stone rider, just back into trials after a gap of near 25 years. What has shocked me more than anything is the amount of power available from my '09 300 TXT Pro. Not just that but the rather wicked power delivery. Then I wonder am I using this as an excuse for the thing being hard to ride when it may be more due to my; age, lack of fitness, length of time away from it????
  9. Just had a similar experience. I too am 53, and first time out on my newly acquired Gas Gas 300 was starting to tackle stuff which I shouldn't have been. Inevitable result, came backwards down a steep climb onto rocks and bike onto me. Was sore for a week but valuable lesson learned. Good advice from a mate when we were speaking of being afraid. He said "it's very important to be afraid - 'cos when you're not afraid that's when bad things can happen!"
  10. Hello. I'm another Newbie....well not quite Newbie. A 53 year old returning to trials after an absence of over 20 years. Last bike I had was a Montesa Honda MH349, (anyone remember them?). Bought it new in 1986 and sold it in 1993. I've just recently bought myself a 2009 Gas Gas TXT Pro. Bloody hell they haven't half changed since I've been away! Having just discovered this wonderful forum and reding up, and having been out on the TXT Pro a few times I'm starting to wonder If I've made the right choice. Apart from the differences which are immediately obvious: size, weight, disc brakes, water cooling.......the BIG difference is in power / power delivery. These modern bikes seem to be much more highly tuned than 25 years ago, with quite a vicious power delivery. To be treated with a large portion of respect! I've also talked my brother-in-law into getting back into it (after a similar absence). Currently practising at Parkgate Quarry and getting ready to go along and join in (for the fun) with some of the organised events. There is a new club / website MototrialNI which seems to be popular and are obviously doing something right. Next event Sat 3rd January......and we plan to be there. Look forward to looking in here regularly. What a source of information. Thanks guys.
