I use an electric drill with a 2 inch buffer wheel. The softer the better. I use Autosol for cleaning chrome and alluminum and it works GREAT.
here is an idea of what I mean by great:
(left one after buffed with autosol, and the right on is before I touched it)
I've also used it for all the chrome trim around my chevelle and it makes it look like new

(thought the pics might help give you an idea.. even if it looks like absolute crap with rust you can make it shine like new )

I use 2nd gear most of the time because on the 175, 1st just doesn't have any guts to it! 2nd has unlimited grab to it and 3rd is great too. But I changed the front sprocket to a lower tooth # so I have to use higher gears... I might even bump it up a tooth because 1st is almost useless

Try it for a season I say You might find out it's the perfect bike for your needs.. They're a great starter bike, but in the right hands kickass! Did you not see the video R2W posted not too long ago of the Kickstart videos?? (To give you an idea of just what they're capable of )

Trials bikes make the best trail bikes for sure! (okay, maybe if you have a seat it's a little nicer!) But like any equipment you want to last, you gotta take care of it Try not to kill your bikes!
My uncle has been riding his 290 for a few years now and it's going very strong still!

I guess his son could always be an acception... but I don't know a single guy who didn't want a bike when they were growing up! Who doesn't love motorcycles!! But true, I see what you mean! However, he will soon realize pedaling isn't as fun as using something with an engine I'm sure!

Ohh WOW that is clean! I am VERY interested in where you got those pegs! I am searching for the fattest ones I can find to put on the TY, and then maybe fabbing them up to sit lower and a little back (like the sammy miller ones). But wow, that really looks stunning, Amazing job!!

Well I can't really think of any way to get a wheel off without a lot of cursing/screaming at it.. to be honest, I'm not sure how it comes off! (my bike has drum brakes).. but I'd think removing the caliper would be your first step. Your axle should come right out?? I might have misread your question :|

I don't know if this is any help! But it could be the front sprocket is worn and under power it is almost slipping possibly? once you let off the throttle it would still spin but wouldn't have the torque behind it right? (Just a thought!) But about the master link:
When the master link is taken out, put the split part at the top (rather than bottom because it's easier to work on of course). Then make sure your master link clip is put in from the front of the bike towards the back.. Or else it has a chance of catching and making a noise (or ripping the chain off!). It could be that because when you put on the power, the chain gets tight under pressure and could be causing the clip to grab instead of sliding over. I hope my rambles made sence and might give you some ideas

Hey Scott, I don't really have much info for you so hopefully someone else can be more informative But when I painted my 175's frame, I just chose a silver that looked close to it. I used an automotive paint and it looks so think/bombproof I don't think it will ever chip off! But the point I'm trying to make is that if you paint the entire frame with one colour, it will look great as long as you find a white that matches what you're going for. But then again I'm sure someone can probably find you the same paint of the equivilent
For the fenders, I just washed them up in the shop sink with some liquid orange hand soap with a scrub brush and they cleaned right up But there were still a couple scrates so I bought some spray on platic waxer and it made them look shiney like new, but the scrape is still visible if you really look. Hope that helps.. You could also sand it with light sandpaper and repaint it, but I think that usually comes out pretty tacky looking

30:1 is burning a lot of oil compared to 70:1. Although, I've known people to ride their bikes at 90:1 without problems. 30:1 is definatly playing it on the safe side, but I think it would load up your bike. (it's not bad though because the oil is getting lots of oil to keep it lubricated, once you get up to the higher ratios:1, the engine is burning less oil, running hotter, and there is more friction being produced
30:1 - lots of oil being burned
40:1 - less oil being burned
50:1 - less oil being burned
etc.. That might take the guess work out of it

I run my 175 at 50:1 right now (did away with the oil injection after it fried the engine once...)
As long as you see a little blue smoke out the back, your engine is getting oil and things are good! I plan on trying the 175 at 60:1 for the next tank I run though it as the Spark plug is still turning fairly black. The spark plug should be a brownish colour. If your plug is white, you're not getting enough oil and you're killing your engine! (just thought I'd add some info in there:))
I'd agree with you at starting at 50:1 and go from there.. if it is loading up and smoking like crazy try moving up to 60:1, or 70:1 etc
I personally wouldn't go much higher than 70:1, but I'm not trying to climb rock mountains with my TY lol. Test out what works best for your machine. I'm sure other people have good opinions on this too which are yet to come

It didn't take me too long to take my 175 all apart, paint it, and put it back together.. If you're just looking for something to practice on, maybe just service it really well and ride it for the summer and work on it over winter (if you're just itchin' to ride) If you decide to rebuild it, just take pictures of every process like mentioned before and it's no problem putting back together. Simple project actually, it reminds me of mechano:) I rebuilt a trike fairly quickly (well, repainted and serviced it. Didn't take it all apart, just mainly the back end). Fear not! It's not a huge project.
When I stripped down my frame I used an electric drill with a (many) wire brush attatchment on it. It worked great, I finished the frame in probably 10 minutes, rubbed it down with paint thinner (to make sure there was nothing left like dust or dirt). And when it evaporated, I primed it twice. I let it bake on for a few days by the wood stove in the shop and then painted it metallic silver. Just bag off the tripple clamp and tape over the sticker at the front and away you go
If you want to just do a mask up job to it and paint around it, I recomend cleaning the places you want to paint with a wire brush (hand type works fine too), then put thinners on it, and depending on the paint you might be able to put it right on, or it might need to be primed first (buy fast dry paint too! even though it's more expensive, it will let you finish it a lot quicker!).
To avoid overspray (a MUST) you have to tape off any place that isn't being intended to be sprayed and it will turn out fine. That's what I did when I repainted this trike: I didn't take the engine out, and I managed to paint everything so it looks that way.. check out what I mean, frame on resto..

Hey I just put a new back tire on my ty 175 recently, and it didn't sit correctly on the bead at first.. So what I did (after cursing the bikes name for a while) was put WD40 around the bead/rim edge and let it kinda loosen it up a little. Then I put in a LOT of air, and it slowly pushed it onto the bead evenly. You have to leave a lot of air in it or else it will sink back down. If you can store the bike indoors and let it stay warm while there is a lot of pressure in the tire it will help it go back into shape Good luck
