Thanks, that's good to know, will try my luck with piston and rings and use the existing barrel. See how it runs and go from there! Cheers!
-
Yeh I'm going to take rest of engine out to check what's gone wrong, both circlips were still in place. Haven't identified what it could be yet!
-
figured out how to add pics so here it is, note the chips missing from the bottom edges of a few of the ports?!?!
-
-
Thanks crazybond700! will have a look for a piston, do you have a link? And sting32 it was ran properly with the correct oil/ fuel ratio so don't know why or whats gone wrong?
-
So do you think the barrel would be useable with the little chips in the ports? A new piston kit is around 140 quid if i can get hold of one. The head might do as well. I thought the chips would render the barrel useless? I was trying to put pics of the barrel on but cant figure out how to ha ha

Cheers guy, some great info there to get me started and have a think about! Fingers crossed!

Hi all, as you can see from my post title my bike has died, A sorry attempt at taking up a sport if ever there was one. Whilst on my first day ride out at Kinnerstons farm, Llangollen, the engine made a few funny clicks followed by fast tapping. Turns out small bits chipped of the edges of the ports, scored the side of the piston then got smashed against the head for a few seconds before dying. lost compression etc.
Problem seems to be finding a replacement barrel/piston/head. Its an old bike and the odd similar parts i've seen are asking for silly money (£170 for a barrel). Does anyone know if i can fix it some how cheaper, re line the barrel etc.
Failing that would anyone know if its wort breaking or what value to a breaker. I need something back from it to put to a newer bike but as it is its sitting doing nothing.
Any idea/ comments would be appreciated.
Cheers, Al

Ah you should give it a go mate, sure the bike will be fine! I'm only doing the novice/begginer route. Just want to get it under my belt and hopefully learn a bit about the bike, what's ok or not etc. You should do it! My mate is also coming for his first trial to. We can all Make fail together ha ha
-
Hi, finally got boots and a helmet so I am hopefully going to attend and ride at the next Frodsham trial, 30th Aug. Anyone going?
-
Hi mate, sounds good, I believe the next round is bank holiday Sunday 30th this month.
I found a tip bloke in Anderton, Northwich who does repairs and parts and clothing etc. Search for 2machs motorcycles.a bloke called Ian mackman runs it. He's an ex TT champion and rode the factory Norton a few years ago, real interesting bloke to talk to!
Sure he could check your bike and God for Tring helmets and boots etc!

Hi guys, how'd it govtofay? Its been my daughters 3rd birthday weekend so couldn't make it!
How's the bike Col?
Am I right in thinking the next Frodsham event is the 30th? Is there anything the bikes require to be Ridden? Eg lanyard kill switch? Etc
Cheers, Al

Looks great mate! Well I have a fairly basic practice area at my place. My mate is coming down on Sat with his new bike, a 1992 gasgas. Were gonna have a play and do few bits to the bikes. You fancy coming down. Only across the Warburton bridge from where you are!
-
Cheers guys, will hive it a go with the slave cylinder up above the master! I bled it for ages normally but still drags. Will keep at it! Does anyone know what oil to use instead clutch/gear box? Cheers again.
-
Hi mate, what bike did you get then? Let us no when your up and running. I'm just doing some bearings and getting clutch sorted on mine, it drags a bit, then ready to go.
-
Hi, I attempted to reverse bleed my clutch as it was dragging slightly. But now it is as if the clutch does nothing. I put a tube with syringe on the bleed nipped and fed oil through until no bubbles came out at thee reservoir. The closed the nipped, the lever felt like no pressure to it until a few pumps, then I can hear something moving at the clutch but it's not disegaging the clutch at all? Have I done something obviously wring? Cheers, Al
-
Ah right thanks pal, didn't realise that was the case! Will give it a go! Cheers
-
Hi, i'm trying to clean up my front brake caliper but I can't manually push the pistons back in, they won't budge? One has moved out more than the other three but none of them will push back? I've taken the cap of the lever reservoir and tried cracking open the bleed nipped but no movement? Help!! Cheers
-
Cheers for the reply. Was unsure if you could tap through and didnt want to damage anything but I gave it a try like you said and hey presto, came straight out! Happy days, cheers... And had ordered an internal bearing puller but that's now cancelled but cheers anyway!
-
Hi, i'm trying to replace the front wheel bearing on my first bike, a 2000 txt 250. The problem is there is a spacer running through the hub between the bearings.it is also a smaller inside diameter than the bearing so you can't even tap a lip. This prevents you from tapping the inside/backside of the bearing with a punch. Is there a way of getting the out. I'm stuck! Cheers
-
Yeh am well pleased with it! With a bit of work it should be a great starter bike. Good luck with finding a shed and bike. Maybe see you at Frodsham on the 2nd Aug!
-
Thanks mate, any recommendation on what oil to use? I think it gets slightly better when warm but still not right. Will change oil and go from there! Cheers
-
Hi, I just bought this 250 txt, 2000 model. It's my first trials bike. The clutch drags when lever fully pulled in soothe bike is keeping forward? Any tips on adjustment or parts rat may need replacing? Cheers
