  1. Hi All Replacing crank seals and bearings in a 240 because it smokes excessively from exhaust and had less oil in the gearbox on draining it after 4 trials. My question is which way round should the left hand inner crank seal go in? The one in the bike was fitted spring / open / concave face towards the middle of the engine also on the picture attached (from an old italian magazine test) although not a good image looks like it may be in this way too. But exploded diagrams of the engine show the seal flat side with numbers on it facing inward towards the middle of engine / crank chamber. The reason I ask is that I have completed rebuild and run up engine and it still smokes badly at high rpm ,Is it still sucking oil from gearbox as seal is in the wrong way round? Also as a addition ,when fitting the centre gasket I wasn’t that happy with its fit but thought it was just a bit poorly made and it seemed to seat nicely as I closed the cases down. Later I found an additional centre gasket in the gasket set ,turns out there are two types! Does anyone know what the difference is between the two? Cheers Roy

    Ossa Mar Clutch

Hi All I have a 250 MAR 1976 mk3, I have purchased a clutch for it (Surflex part number S1202) The clutch in the bike (and one I also have from another 1976 mar) has one thick steel plate, Five friction plates, four thin steel plates and the pressure plate has a plate attached to it.Also all the steel plate working faces are dimpled to allow the oil to flow (I guess!) The set supplied has Five friction plates and Six plain "undimpled" steel plates. Looking at manuals I can find slightly earlier engines did use Six undimpled steel plates (one is thicker mind you) with the last steel plate going in last. And I recon the pressure plate does not have a plate attached to it, Can anyone confirm this? I have also found a gripper manual and this looks like what I have, Can anyone confirm this? Surflex do market another OSSA clutch (S1203) but can find no technical or even which machine this or the S1202 is for. My feeling is that the S1202 is for earlier bikes and S1203 for 1975/76 on, Again can anyone confirm this? I have contacted the dealer who supplied the clutch and he was very sympathetic and said he will help if necessary but explained that he has found very difficult dealing with Surflex in the past as he has to go through another company and a translator etc (surflex are Italian BTW). The dealer is also OK with me asking you guys for advice and input which may help others with similar issues. After all that I may just fit the friction plates (which are all the same as far as I can tell) as they are the parts that are worn! However I would still be Interested in information from people with more OSSA experience than me.

    Iridium!

I fancy some performance like that for my fantic! Whats the part number please?
  5. I have found that 315's need a resistor type spark plug (ngk ones with an R in the part number) If you don't use these sometimes the motor missfires and generally runs poorly, however if you stop the motor and restart it it will be fine again for a while. If you fit the correct spark plug you get no such problems.

    Ossa Colour

Hi Neashfella I used Ford Modena Green when I resprayed mine not sure it's an exact match but it's pretty dam close
  7. Anyone had any experence decoking/repacking the exhaust on an Ossa mar 1976? mine appears to have had some work at some stage as both boxes have been cut all the way around and then welded back up. Is this the best way to do it? will the perforated tubes come out attached to one end only?
