  1. Small lever opens a valve next to the spark plug which stops any compression in the cylinder. This allows you to turn the engine over past TDC when starting. I wondered if that was stuck open. TBH I'm pretty new to these myself and also in South West. Is there compression when you put it into gear and try to push it with clutch released?
  2. Basic owners manual with parts diagram. http://lamaneta.org/manuales/manuales/Montesa Cota 349 Manual de Instrucciones 4587.pdf
  3. Breather pipe just hangs down into bash plate I think. Gear oil should drain through hole on bash plate and you should change transmission fluid as well. I will attach basic manual for you shortly.
  4. It looks fabulous compared to mine. Pipe from front of bike is a breather. Does it have a decompression lever? It is like another, smaller, clutch lever on the bar with the clutch. It pulls a cable next to the spark plug.
  5. Thanks. I have been searching and did find a thread. No luck with 3 leg puller as you say.
  6. Where are you based? Go through old posts on 349's, there's lots and check InMotion who have very helpful staff on the phone and sell most patts new and some old. Good luck.
  7. Well You will have the last laugh.... Any sage advice for this recalcitrant bugger?
  8. Had a short chat with the guys at InMotion who reckon it is the crank seals. Pulled everything off with remarkable ease. I love the design of the clutch assembly which came off in one piece. Need to get a puller for the gear on the crank in front of the seal. I'm hoping my local bike shop MY Motors will have some of the parts on the shelf as Melroy used to ride these things competitvely back in the day.
  9. Ok. I'll look at the gearbox vent tomorrow. Cheers.
  10. I have driiled 2mm hole in the filler cap and let the engine cool. Started it and within a few second there was oil being pushed out. I put in 300 cc of oil when I changed the oil as per manual. I fear chank seal gone and pressurising the clutch side. Any pearls of wisdom?
  11. I've washed out with white spirit and refilled. Slightly milky seepage from gear and clutch lever shafts. Undid filler and it is under pressure. Where's the breather? Neil
  12. Golden and lovely. Where would the vent be? Someone said it could be blocked which could have caused the bubbling from around the clutch arm when it first happened.
  13. It hasn't really seen water apart from damp grass. I"m washing out with white spirit at the mo'
  14. Just drained this out of my Cota 349 as mentioned in a previous post. Should I pull the clutch cover off or just wash it out, refill and see? Cheers.
  15. That sounds, hopefully, like it could be a possibility. I'd certainly take that as a result. I will look in to it but probably not until the end of next month due to house moving. Cheers. Neil.
  16. I thought it would have to come apart at some point. The rest of the bike is pretty tatty so I think it's had a tough life.
  17. Just used my 1981white wonder 349 after a couple of months standing. After an hour of blatting about on a testing trial I noticed an oil leak, which seemed emulsified, from the plug below gear lever and then shortly after bubbling from clutch actuating arm where it goes into the engine case. What could be the cause? Is an engine strip/rebuild on the cards? I haven't touched the engine since I've owned it. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers. Neil
  18. There will be a list of yhe entrants nearer the time. I'm Ive seen them before.

    Lighting

I'm in Cornwall UK. It's one particular clubs events I want to enter so, as you say, it will not be used that often. Wanted ad a good idea, cheers.

    Lighting

I was recently not allowed to enter a trial as I didn't have lights fitted so I'm looking for an inexpensive way to fit them to my Montesa 349. All the wiring is there but all original stuff is way too expensive especially as I will probably break it. Rear light aren't hard to source but does anyone know of a suitable headlight? Cheers

    349 bash plate

Is it really 6 weeks since I spent any time with my bikes? That's what comes of buying a house that need slots of work and also a large bike workshop which is obviously a priority. Finally having a few hours in the garage. I have attached the bash plate with the top 2 bolts at the front and as you can see from the pics it sits well low of the rear mounts and as previously stated the rear holes don't line up. It does also appear too long and I was thinking it may line up better if it was bent a little. Do other peoples bash plates need to be forced into place or do they just fit when offered up? What would be the best way to try to bend the whole plate? Cheers Neil

    349 bash plate

I have offered it up with engine in before I start anything. I put the far left hand screw in loosely and then took this pic from the right hand side looking down. As you can see, these holes don't line up, bugger ! Am I missing something or have I just got the wrong one? I was told it came off a 51M which is what I have????

    349 bash plate

I personally did get a good idea and it has helped a lot but I'm sure a better translation would be welcomed. Thanks. Neil
