I have just acquired the same bike (125 engined) well looked after and little used.
I also have a slight rattle which disappears when the clutch is pulled in.
biffsgasgas I am happy you think its normal I just havent heard on any previous
(none GasGas) bikes Ive owned.
Well as I mentioned elsewhere I rode my newly acquired Gas Gas 125 (2012) today.
My son was getting fed up with hanging around to kick start my old 1980s Montesa.
At age 82 next birthday it was getting to heavy for me anyway ! The old legs give out
more easily nowadays which makes me wonder how I coped with my BSA rigid 350
B32 Oh silly me that was 60 years ago !!
Just got a Gas Gas 125 (2012) First ride out today and so much easier to kick over than my old 1980s Montesa.
I had to get rid of that as at 82 next birthday it was just to heavy for me !!
Now my 125 likes plenty of throttle when starting hot but choke only from cold.My son is much happier now
that he doesnt have to hang around in case my legs give out from trying to get my bike started !!! Mind it was
him that got me riding again after 35 years. Bye the way what happened to the old over 45s class Or better
still for me over 65s ? lol
Stalling is a pain never liked doing that on older bikes
My rev 3 kill switch is a red button on the right hand side
of the handle bars under the throttle Took a bit of finding !!
They are cheap to buy if yours IS missing.
Thanks for that interesting info of the bikes history As you say a decent bike that performs well
certainly for what I will be doing with it ! Mainly keeping an eye on my seven year old grandson
on his Oset while my son competes.
Now Mark asked about the chain tensioner. I have " bin on me hols " so not had a chance to
photo it but looks to be original as I cant see any obvious bracket welding. Perhaps you could
comment on that ? Cheers and thanks again.
PS Fell off and snapped the none original brake lever so fitted a matching Amal. LOL
zerorev3rev4
yes it came from your neck of the woods
was it trialed much ? if so good riding cause
it aint knocked about at all to the point I wondered
if it had been a "farm" byke only !! curious about the
red seat never seen one before.
Hi Mark Boots and helmet have arrived got ACU license so
ready for my first ride Sunday ! Son and 7year old grandson
are riding too. A three generation entry might be unusual do
you think ? However I just posted to say I will check out the
chain tensioner and post a photo if possible. Yes I have seen
the chain tubes but not sure if my model was fitted with them.
Cheers
Laurie (talbotvanman is in memory of a camper van I used to own !! )
Making a note of Motul Transoil Ive decided to replace crankshaft oil
seals the engine is a bit smokey since using 5w/30 mainly cause there
was hardly any oil in the motor !! So will revert to 10w/30 Thanks.
Flailing legs bp77 !! Your not alone I expect plenty of that on Sunday when
I (hopefully ) ride my first trial for 30 years. But just wanted to say I spent
many happy summers at The Palace Ballroom in Douglas. I was the drummer
with the once famous Squadronaires Orchestra.
Hey Fabrice Salut Your English is better than my French and I lived and worked in
France in the 1950s anywhere from Paris to my all time favourite La Rochelle.
Hello from the north east of England At 82 years of age I have been
reintroduced to trials riding by my son I suspect its to keep an eye
on my grandson as he has bought him an Oset !!! Anyway just wanted
to say I have lovely memories of Hong Kong from the 1950s when I was
in the merchant navy.
Well it wasnt easy but there it is !!!
Very original I would say although I do want to
replace the levers. The red seat is something I
havent seen before but is definately Montesa
having the " M " embossment in the side.
Thats one mint looking machine Mark but Im really posting
to ask how you uploaded the photo Ive looked at Andys post
about uploading photos but could to with a tutorial !!! I use
Picasa but Ive never been good in the photo department.
Thanks for the parts manual offer Mark might take you up on that sometime
I think I will be replacing crank seals thru time as the engines a bit smokey !!
Interested to see although frame is MH engine number is not it is 29M 02334
I rode thru Bakewell many times on my 1947 BSA 350 B32 when I was stationed
at Market Drayton in the RAF (1950s) Just a bit too far for me now Im afraid
Pity not to compare Cota 200s Did I mentioned Ive been out of the saddle 30 years !!!
Yes I can confirm all of thisI got an emailed membership number from my
chosen club applied for my first license and paid on line in minutes .I have
a membership number I can use immediately but I assume I have to send my
photo to receive an actual license though ?
Thanks for the encouragement guys hoping to attend
(or even ride) Horsforth Sunday if the helmet and boots
arrive in time !! My Cota is white tank/red seat if theres
another one the same Im the old geezer !!! lol
Thanks for all the replies guys The bike is white tank/red seat
and I spotted the engine number. Got the oil sorted and need to
examine other features carb etc Bike isnt at home so need to look
at things next visit. Hoping to ride (or at least attend) my first trial
for thirty years this coming Sunday (Horsforth) Depends if the boots
ordered arrive in time. Helmet is here !! Say Hi if your at Horsforth.
If theres another white tank 200 Im the old geezer !!! lol
My recently acquired Cota 200 has the frame number MH200 00044
I cannot find any engine number. I assume the H is a reference to the
Honda involvement but what year I would like to know.
I am also curious as to the actual CC of the "200" engine
dadof2 Thanks for that info
Just read elsewhere that the 172 ( similar engine ) also
only uses one oil 10/30 recommended so yeh I think the
5/30 should be ok
Just asked about this elsewhere mine is a Cota 200 I gathered the oil was common to both
as there is only one drain plug ! I have a good supply of 5/30 would you be ok with using
this kingscorpion ? Anyway thanks for confirming my thought about there only being one oil.
I have purchased a 1980s Cota 200 There is only one drain plug ( on the gearbox side )
So do I take it the oil is common to the gearbox AND clutch/primary side ? I have seen
various oils mentioned 10/20 10/40 etc but I have a supply of 5/30 would this be suitable
The bike will have VERY light use as I will not be competing very much !
I rode trials in the 1950s on a rigid 350 BSA B32 The bike was in
road trim as most of us rode to the trial in those days !!
I introduced my son to the sport about 30 years ago. We went thru
various bikes Bultaco Fantic Montesa etc. Time went by and the trialing
faded for various reasons My son has taken the sport up again and
introduced my grandson to the sport with an Oset. I find I can still ride
without falling off so now have my all time favourite machine a Montesa
twinshock a Cota 200 Its an ex farm bike and because of its condition
doubt its ever been trialed Changed the oil fuelled it up and away it went !!
Now waiting for a license I hope to compete at a very very easy level Why
cause I will be 82 next birthday !! I cant wait for the day of a three generation
event. Now I have posted this cause I read somewhere of a chap of 30 wondering
if he had left it to late to start. No No No its the greatest sport ever to get involved in.
