Ok problem solved now the tab on the shift shaft that the spring rests on needed a little persuasion so everything would centralize and now all is well and got the engine back together now just gotta find the time to rebuild the bike!
Hmm no adjuster so to speak although the shift shaft spring has potential too be shimmed up which would spread it a little whick i will try next to see what happens.
The shaft is moving freely.
the spring rests in two places on a tab on the plate off the shift shaft which is what i`m on about above^ and on one of the shift fork pins.
The indexing plunger apears to be working fine the spring is still nice and strong and the roller moves freely.
Thanks for all the suggestions i`m going to go try lifting that spring now if anyone has anymore ideas please chuck `em in and i`ll let you know how this goes
Hi after completely stripping my engine too try and find a selecting fault on my `97 scorpa easy and finding nothing I today came to the reassembly, after putting the cases back together and the various selector parts back on i tried going through the gears once again and have discovered what is most likely causing the problem.
on the shift shaft ass. you have a rocker device I beleive they call the `pawl ass.` when selecting up the gears the rocker often (90-95% of the time) dosen`t centralize when you pull the lever down slightly it pops back down. It`s as if the whole ass. is sitting say 1-2mm too high though apart from the spring twisting which i find hard to beleive I cannot see why it is happening
as soon as something leaves the showroom it devalues so you`re wallet would be better off getting a 6 moonth old one or the like plus may get some extras like zorst protectors etc?
S*%t yes you should definatley replace that one that will most likely not correctly select the gear it will prob just push the index shim (bit attached to selector drum spring loaded tensioner) to just rest on a high ridge potentially between gears therefor under load the tensioner will pull it either way out of or if lucky into gear I would say this is your main problem
Hi mate had mine completely apart and am also awaiting gaskets and seals before the rebuild! my complete gear box is as new would you believe at first i thought i had a slightly twisted selector fork but later tests on a flat surface and feeler gauges proved otherwise so i seeked info from the wonderfull peter knight while ordering my gaskets and he said he wasn`t surprised i hadn`t found anything but just too check step by step as it goes back together and most importantly to check the pawl shaft is straight as this is a common problem if it has bent even slightly? we`ll see fingers crossed
And you say your gear shaft is bent do you mean the actual output shaft? if so the chain wobble on that would be to me a main contender for knocking it out of gear
That he is and a top man also I can definatley vouch for this he has helped me out no end is the last few weeks and his delivery is also very fast Just an all round good bean
perhaps but the brackets on mine look pretty straight and unharmed maybe the tyres are just getting fatter? i`m gonna space mine out as much as possible too give clearance without going to far obviously
If your stuck getting one i have `The Rotax Man` Aka Peter Knights` phone number and he will most definatly be able to source one for you as this engine is used in many a bike
Hey Dave yep thats my easy in the pic great condition for year `97 but had gear selection probs stripped it thought found a twisted shift fork but further inspection proves me wrong so at a loss of what it is i`m gonna order some gaskets tomorrow and rebuild checking everything at every step and hope and pray for a miricle cure?
Hi just a quick one to any easy owners my mates exhaust on his easy just wore through from tyre rub (managed too get it welded but still) is there supposed to be a spacer in there too step it out? or are they just a poor design? Looking at mine I think i best space it before i`m getting mine welded up also!
Training day with who? Trials Central have a great relationship with James Lampkin (Dougies's Minder) and one of the things I'm considering is a deal with him to provide training days with discounts for Trials Central Supporters.
I think training day discounts would be great also as long as they weren`t all based at one end of the country? and plus you`ve got all the overseas supporters to keep happy all makes it a bit tricky i guess
yep now all apart and luckily for me all the gears are fine the only thing i can see is slight wear and a slight twist on the selector fork for 2nd and 4th which puzzles me a bit but kind of makes sense as my problem was selecting 4th 5th and 6th so maybe because its not going into fourth this is stopping me getting fifth and sixth? at least i hope this is the answer as i really don`t want to do this twice!
coming from the south east as i do... i have trouble with Bristolian as well !! wink.gif Here in Weston-Super-Mare we get used to understanding the Brummie accent... biggrin.gif
well i`m origanally a little more southern than that being born in truro but yes i suppose i have picked up quite a bristolian lingo over the years!
Andy just thought how you getting the postal adresses for sending the stickers out?
cheers matt about too go have another look now split cases last night but no obvious signs jump out which is good of course but now the head scratching part! what is cuasing the problem?
Hi i`ve got a 97 easy and having problems with getting into 4th 5th and 6th just split engine and am yet too find any obvious problems? any ideas on what could be causing this?
there is always one option for cleaning the expansion chamber bung one end fill with a mix of caustic soda leave a while overnight maybe aggitate a little empty and that should clear the best part of it out
