I was told by the fox supplier that they recommend a strip and rebuild around every 6 month and the seal kits are relitivley cheap
Also they are air only not nitrogen so no hassles getting it filled
But I know what you mean about the colapsed shock scenario, no spring = no support whatsoever
-
Having discovered the showa rear shock is pretty much beyond repair I'm now looking for a new shock
I'm ruling a new showa out on price
Next is either ohlins or trp at between the 400/450
But I'm also drawn to the fox float mxr
The wieght is ridiculously light in comparison to all other shocks and can be had for £347
The two things putting me off is durability and the fact they are not a common sight on trials bikes
Would like comments or feed back from anyone who's used or using one

I swapped from a 09 300 raga to an 05 4rt and at first I thought I'd made a big mistake But a few months on and I now can't see me going back to a 2 stroke
No comparison at all in build or material quality
I can now work on a bike that's not made from cheese and without fear of something breaking by just looking at it

Just re read my original post meant to say can't be repaired as easy unlike many boots with stitched on soles
-
It's more like a split right round the boot
-
Yes there's a guy Lincoln way that resoles sidi , alpinestars ect , but mine has no bottom to fix the sole onto , the whole bottom has come off ,
-
I've asked 2 or 3 repairers if they can fix my alpinestars and all said no
The sole has come off completely taking the bottom of the boot with it , not just come unstuck,
-
Had a pair of alpinestars for a year on the upside good fit and very comfy , downside moulded sole is pretty thick and came away from the boot and as far as I'm aware can't be repaired like the majority of boots with stitched on soles

Went to ketton quarry trial today on the back of macctrials last night so fair bit of time riding the last couple of days
Had a heavy rain shower and it turned the place into thick gloop, the sort that stops the front wheel turning
So I thought well nows the time to get stuck in and just ride
Lots of throttle weight back and off you go , even made the fatal mistake of hesitating and the bottom of a steep slippy climb , not to worry , loads of throttle weight back , yep it gripped went into outer space landed twisted the forks in the yolks and other bits of superficial damage
But on the upside I'm pretty happy now I know it will grip as well as most other stuff
If you give it plenty of stick and have faith
The only thing I've got to learn now is not to panic and keep it under control when I reach the top of a hill at 300 mph
But I'm sure that'll come with time

Just got back from macc trial and now have mixed feelings
Started off shocking trying the nice and smooth method and it was shocking , to the point where I wanted to pack in and go home
So changed to the angry don't mess about approach and I felt better
It was a bit muddy and light rain but not proper slippy stuff
Last lap dropped 3
So don't feel so bad now , it's obviously my lack of skill more than anything
maybe I'm expecting far to much to soon
-
Thanks , I don't really want to change a lot on the bike because I'm worried about just getting slightly used to it and then moving the goal posts and starting again ,but if I don't feel I'm improving on the bike I will start looking at mods and different set ups
Rear linkage is good clutch been changed , ive no issues with the slow plodding sections or rocky stream stuff it's slippy hill type stuff
At one trial there was a steep rooty wet muddy climb with thick mud at the bottom of the hill , on the gas gas it was 2 or 3rd nail it and up
On the 4rt I couldn't even get out of the mud at the bottom let alone up the bank ,
It just sat there spinning ( slowly )
Am I being just to conservitive expecting it to do miracles ,
-
It is frustrating and I suppose that's one thing you don't need in trials , I'm trying not to think about it too much but then ill do something basic I've done a hundred times before and fail miserably
I'm dreading winter and the mud already
-
I've had it around 6 weeks and have done 6 trials on it , my results have got a little better but certain things I seem to be really struggling with , ive even thought am u over thinking too much
-
Rode a couple before but not in a trial and not many folks are willing to let you attempt certain things on their pride and joy , and I wouldn't want to
The main reason I wanted one is because I'd like to get into bigger lap stuff , road trials and the like
Took the gas gas to ilkley and it nearly killed it
-
Yes spot on that's what it seems like the raga would spin it's self out of trouble or Up a step where the 4rt needs to be ridden , with more rider input if you know what I mean
I have found if I'm more agressive with the 4rt I get more success at climbs and stuff like steps but that's going against what I've read or told , steady pace ride on the throttle , but I feel the agressive method is somtimes getting me in trouble

Hi ive been doing trials for 2 year now and started in beginners for first year until I consistently finished most trials in the top Half dozen then moved to clubman and again made steady progress
But I've now swapped bikes from an 09 300 raga to 05 4rt and it's all gone pear shaped
First ride on the 4rt I had my worst result ever
And on attempting things I could do on the gas gas I found nearly impossible on the 4rt , mainly slippy rooty hill climbs
I've searched most posts and asked about adapting to a 4rt but a lot of info seems conflicting
Low gear wieght back no clutch to high gear slip clutch and blast it
I'm finding I'm Worrying and thinking more about how to ride the bike before a trial than actually just doing it , nothing seems automatic any more
Will I return to the level I was at before in time or do some people never adapt to the 4rt
Any tips or advice is very welcome
