  1. On a bike that old and not ridden much, replace the crank seals, they must be hard and sucking air into combustion area.

    Rev 3 Coolant

Use ONLY 100% synthetic coolant or the water pump will start leaking due to "cavitation" of the magnesium side cases not liking water. NEVER mix water with coolant or use 50/50 coolant. I know,,,,,learned the hard way. There should be a warning label attached to Beta bikes! mm
  3. As popular as trials is, why doesn't a company make die cast or plastic models of popular and vintage trials bike? I would buy them, would you? mick
  4. I noticed that ESPN was to air some World Outdoor Trials events, do you mean we might see this coverage in the USA? That would be to good to be true?
  5. So what will Toni Bou be riding next year?
  6. Look on the Ryan Young USA web site, he has a link to show how to install rim tape correctly. Good luck, you need to intall the valve stem first, then go from there. Most problems is air leaking around the stem and rim tape.
  7. I remember the hot setup was to shorten the swing arm 1 inch. Cut it near the front pivot.
  8. My '04 Rev3-250 and my '06 Rev3-200 did the same thing. Both bikes were used, I replaced the clutch side case, seals and bearings. I use Honda coolant and replace it often. NEVER dilute with water! The Beta dealer should sell you the parts at costs. Seems to be a common problem. I wonder if other bikes have the same problem?
  9. What was his injury?
  10. Keep tapping it lightly with a rubber mallet.
  11. From the pics I see posted the World outdoor rounds are going more and more "man made" sections? Are we running out of land? Will the outdoor sections just look like indoor events outside? I hope no one ever gets a serious injury. But I'm 'old school' and don't care much for the way indoor events have gotten so impossible looking, except for 2 or 3 riders. Too much like a circus act!
  12. GET A 200 Beta or a 125 Sherco,,,,,,,forget the 250 or larger! Unless you are a heavy weight:)

    Ty175

I purchased a pair of 340 Betor gas shocks from Sammy Miller, converted to a set of TY250 forks (ebay) and now my TY175 turns great!
  14. Cavitation is the proper word to describe the problem, not corrosion. Thanks. I have noticed that most quality motorcycle coolants state; "50/50 cooland and de-ionized water to prevent cavitation".
  15. I was told by the Beta importer to use ONLY ELF 100% organic coolant to prevent corrosion. 50/50 was a no no. Anyone else heard of this?
  16. The two Beta water pump cases I have seen, came from around the impeller area and then causing a leak. I think many bikes use mag. cases from MX, enduro to trials. I was told that water in the coolant caused to corrosion?
  17. Do all modern bikes with magnesium water pump housings have problems with corrosion and leaking like the Beta Rev3s? Looks like this is a major problem after several years?
  18. On the TY175 you have always had to fold up the right side foot rest to crank the bike, no different with the SM kit. Mick
  19. Yep,That was pretty bad!
  20. I found the SPARK and it's alive again. I still don't know what the black/yellow wire from the alternator s for? I don't have it connected and all is well.
  21. Can anyone tell me the correct ohms reading on my '67 T20M ignition coil? I read 1.8 ohms from ground to input lead on the secondary. (all wires disconnected). Also I would like the reading from the 5 alternator wires. I have a black/white, black/yellow, brown, brown/blue and red. I get now spark at the plug. My bike has side points and no battery. I have a repair book but it is no help. Being a positive ground system, will any other single coil work? I want to keep the stock ignition system because my bike is street legal. Thanks,
  22. Any thought on troubleshooting a no spark on '67 Mountain Cub. I need a wiring diagram also. I have 5 wires coming from alternator, what is the black/yellow wire? I lost the spark when I removed the clutch cover and pulled wire bundle through small side cover hole, I did this very carefully and don't think I broke a wire? I get an AC voltage on all wires when I kick bike over. Maybe the coil is bad? Bike was running good until I worked on it last. Mick
  23. What weight oil and how much in my '67 Triumph tiger Cub clutch and trans? Is the clutch and trans oil different? Thanks. Mick
  24. Look on ebay for TY175 parts.
  25. I've owned my '04 250 Rev-3 for 3 years, no problems until now with a corroded water pump side case. I guess I'm lucky with no stator problems. My bike doesn't get riden much lately, I think that water in the coolant caused the corrosion. Didn't know to use 100% coolant!
