  1. 250 tops for a starter bike. A 290 would be like jumping on a 1000cc road bike to learn to ride a road bike. Unless its dry n big climbs then you dont need big cubes. Try a few as i bought into some crap bikes in my time. Just dont rush in.
  2. What in the lords teeth are you talking about?
  3. Just bite the bullet n buy a piston, its well worth is as it seems to wear more than the rings in my opinion. The skirt on the piston goes hence the rattle if thats what you maybe getting, plus a two stroke should need changing after what 50 to 100 hrs. I have never just done rings always done job lot. Best of luck
  4. I have heard many riders dispute they didnt stop with the observer, plus alot of observers are not policing it that well, many allow a stop. Also riders complainin to the observer that the section is not a non stop section. This is injust to the poor soles whom stand out in dire conditions so we can enjoy our sport. Im over forty and can hop no problems, why because unlike my first bikes 1971 Montesa 247 and then 1980 Ty 175, my current 2011 GasGas can stop n start and has a great clutch. Why inhibit the progess of the machines and skill. Beginners and novices may stop and re foot as unskilled or unsure then its a five, stop allows them to continue and complete the section whilst still within a chance of enjoying the challenge. Numbers are down simply because of costs. I spoke to a father a couple of weeks ago,
  5. At no point have i said anything with regards to the riders of that era. Infact Martin Lampkin has brought the sport forward along with his son, i merely refer to old minded people.
  6. Remember the good old days ? Well there aren't any. Johnny Rotten The Sex Pistols Let's not go back to the days the world was run by old farts making the rules to suit old farts. The gap with experts is wider simply because they put in more effort than the good ole days. All sport has F1 in the 60-70s were on the beer the night before a race now they have become athletes. I bet the no stoppers are post 40 and can't balance hence lets bugger up the progress and take it back to good ole worldy 1971 flat caps n pie n peas.
  7. No stop is old and out dated. Modern machines now lend them self to hopping, hence the requirement to implement this into sections. Simply putting a turn into a no stop that demands a footing is proof it's flawed. Land is becoming more of an issue and venues often not that good so it's a case of making tight turns just to make It difficult. Twin shock should be no stop permitted, but to go back in time defeats progress of the sport.
  8. Mmmm a few top riders stop and get away with it yet the lesser unknown gets the points. I also think its harder for a have a go Harry to observe. This is a one thats then becomes a five n thats a ?. Keep it simple A to B and the dabs count plus the fail. No stop was in its day fine you wouldnt hop the rear end, plus most sections were in straight ish lines something like the Scott as i remember what little of it i did. Should do a poll out of interest.
  9. No stop is terrible. most trials dont have venues that can accomodate no stop that well. So five a beginner for stopping and young kids to under mines there efforts, or just allow a stop "go one young en good effort". Or a comment i hear is i will allow a 2-3 second stop.
  10. I had some roller bearings go in my (tranny) boy what a pain in the ass that was. Total strip down and did every bearing as fragments got around the gearbox

    How Long 2T

The current engine is from the 1994 techno. I could never restart the bike if I stalled in a section without footing, however I can now
  12. The gears in a trials bike are cut in a way for strength not for noise like in a modern car, hence the noise issue. Me old Gasser 07 rattled like a hell on the clutch but had no wear, just the design.
  13. Its probably a Gas Gas Raga that would give you the best you could get. But as said feet on pegs as a good rider can do alot on an old nail of a bike. The best investment is rear tyres and V Shell fuel i would say.
  14. The only problems after owning 4 Rev3, Was the water pump case to which Lampkin replace free, even replaced my mates which was 2-3 years old. Great bike all be it a bit dead on rear end. I always kept on top of the electrics after wet conditions, removing cover then Wd40 and then seal cover back up.
  15. You ain't got a bike Greg. Bikes dont change that much I think Beta engine is now 18 year old all but a few tweaks. I think we do pay to much and importing is a thought to consider regards warranty over cost ie
  16. For 10 years ive had Irc but guess times up. On a further note why can I buy loads of different rubbered crosser tyres at 40 quid yet X11 a 30year old tyre n tred cost
  17. I think this has been mentioned before. I have a 11 and my current Irc seems to loose pressure if ridden on rocky sections, pressure holds up stood in garage. Are they faulty or do I need to get a Michelin.
  18. Looks terrible with the shock stuck on the side. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  19. Wow! you can actually buy a can of Bull Sh!t. Only in a America
  20. I hate non stop as in my humble opinion its never fairly done. Ie i make a stop and its points, however Mr or Mrs top rider seemingly gets away with it. Ive also had comments from the observer stating "ill allow a stop up to about three seconds" mmm how well is that policed. I also think its harder for novice riders as they often need to foot and settle things down, yet they have the extra pressure of the stop rule in sections often not reasonable for non stop.
  21. A 125 maybe cheaper but they generally seemed thrashed to death by the young ones. I would consider a 200 or 250 and you can tame them down easy at little cost then as you gain skills you still have the bike you require. In my opinion a large engine toned down will have torque, which is better than screeming the knackers off a 125 to do the same section. The people i see riding 125 at decent level, seem to use alot of clutch to keep the motor on song, so can only assume the second hand ones are in need of some work if its not well looked after. I would try a few if possible in trial type sections and decide from that as each bike has its own merits, however that also depends on the state of a bike.
  22. So they will be stamped with 012 instead of 09 as all current models are. Last batch made in 09 and its just plastics changed, as a chap bought an 011 and asked why the frame was stamped 09, hence this information.
  23. Seems Honda interest maybe fading as they last produce bikes in 09. The Market has moved on from bangers so must Bou
  24. Wow expensive I sold very tidy 07 for
