  1. Cheers, good to know. Think I'll play around a bit and keep looking at the plug. Engine oil - Yep, thats the sort of thing I've got in it, works well.
  2. I'll throw this in here rather than start a new thread - At the risk of sounding daft I'll dive in, I know this fuel mix topic has been done over and over, but I can't see any consistency. Differs between models let alone a 1974 & 2005 one.. as far as I can tell, but I'm reasonably new to two strokes. Fuel/oil mixture for the 172 cota is recommended to be 5% SAE which is 20:1... My question is: Now that we don't put those single grade oils in, and that seems really lean for what oils and fuel we use now - what is the equivalent with a full and/or semi synth? Was going to experiment with 30:1 (or 3.33%) full synth. Not too keen on buying 40 SAE and sticking that in as a 5% mix.. Doesnt seem right somehow, especially now with the different fuels. The above OP's mixture seems incorrect by my questionable math skills.. 5% is 20:1 and 4% is 25:1, so 3.33% is 30:1 and 2% is 50:1
  3. Thanks Mark, that's brilliant. I'll see what you come back with re: owners manual before I pay someone daft money for a burnt cd. The shaft on mine is all good, however it's bound to let go at some point. Be good to know the Spanish company you have in mind to see what a spare is worth. Thanks again. Ben
  4. Apart from southwest, did you or anyone end up having any luck with this?
  5. Thanks Mark, Yep saw them, seems to be the only one who sells them too. As they're the closest matching thing around, I'll have to give them a go. Ben
  6. Hi all, I'm from Australia, in the NT where theres no trials clubs . Bought a 172 a few years back, used it a bit before some problems occurred - stalled when hot and wouldn't idle. I moved state and it was stored. Excited to pull it back out and get it usable again.. but am finding out fast how tricky it is to find parts. I'm handy with a spanner but a far cry from the expert. Where I'm up to is figuring what to do with the carb and fork seals. The Amal is pretty straight forward as I just need to decide between a new carby or a resleeve. Resleeve in Australia seems to be hit and miss. Where I'm really stuck is the fork seals. The originals are 31.5 x 45 x 7.1. Which is an impossible size to find, southwest stated same. Will 32 x 45 x 7 seals work? Doubting it.. More concerned about getting it rideable than keeping it original, so as I go will find whatever fits. I'll have a go at uploading her..
  7. Hi all, I'm a bit of a fringe dweller of the trials, seem to dip in and out of it as there's no clubs remotely around where I live. If there was, I'd be in the thick of it. Was in Tassie for a little bit and was introduced to trials bikes some years ago, loved it and bought one. I love the old stuff and found myself a Montesa Cota, which is the thing that brings me here, as Ive just pulled it back out and am doing a resto. Good to be here!
